Rite of Spirit
Select 1 Monster Card that includes “Gravekeeper’s”
in its card name from your Graveyard and Special
Summon it in face-up Attack or Defense Position. This
card’s activation and effect is not affected by “Necrovalley”.
I decided to add a little more to Gravekeeper week
because well...I like gravekeepers and it's my turn to
pick for this week. But for all those of you out there
who hate GK, don't worry, it's only going to go on for
the first half of this week. Today we're doing Rite of
Spirit. This is an absolute staple in GK decks as this
will be your main form of recursion. All other forms
of recursion will be negated by your necrovalley, so
you have to turn to other options, and this one is
almost perfect. Most of your monsters that you want to
revive will be Gravekeepers anyway so the limitation
on this card doesn't really mean anything. Plus it's
not affected by Necrovalley, so while the opponent's
recursion options are negated, yours are not. Also,
unlike premature burial or call of the haunted, this
card doesn't stay on the field, so you don't have to
worry about it being destroyed. And also unlike PB and
COTH, you can revive the monster in defense or attack,
giving you the option to revive a spy or guard if you
need some heavy defense.
I'd give this card a 4.5/5 in a GK deck. It's
absolutely necessary that you use 2-3 of these as it's
going to give you a huge edge over the opponent if you
are allowed to revive monsters and they cant. Plus,
it's not restricted at all! |

Rite Of Spirit/Ritual Of The Spirits:
PGD-100-Common
Trap Card: Normal
Effect: Select 1 Monster Card that includes "Gravekeeper’s"
in its card name from your Graveyard and Special
Summon it in face-up Attack or Defense Position. This
card’s activation and effect is not affected by "Necrovalley".
Hey, Monster Reborn in a Trap card without the side
effects of Call Of The Haunted, but only for
Gravekeeper's. Obviously this is a must for
Gravekeeper's Decks, as it isn't and won't be
restricted and can be activate when Necrovalley is
active and you have no GK-Chief out.
Because GK-Decks rely on allot of speed and you'll be
tossing monsters with GK-CannonHolder, packing three
of these cards makes for more ammo, more attack force,
or simply something to tribute for GK-Chief.
Since it's a trap, it has it's limits and slowness,
but with it only requiring to have a GK in the
Graveyard to work, Rite Of Spirit can be activated
anytime after it's been set for a turn even as it's
being destroyed via MST, Heavy Storm, Dust Tornado,
Moisture Creature, Etc. So even though it may be
stopped by Jinzo and the soon to come Magic Canceller
it can sit and what for a good moment when
GK-Assailant or something takes out Jinzo and then can
bring back some pounding force(s).
This card is pretty much self-explanatory, if you play
a Gravekeeper's Deck and have three of these... PLAY
THEM. It's a quick extra Monster Reborn and works even
works good against GK-Decks, what more could you ask
for? The ONLY downsides is that it's a Trap, so it's a
bit slow and can be put on hold via Jinzo, and that if
you have no Gravekeeper's in the Graveyard when the
opponent attempts to destroy it while it's set it
becomes worthless. But it's a common and since
GK-Decks are all abbot tag-team Assault and speed this
card should be abused and do pretty darn well in
tournament games.

ArtWork: 4.0 - Very, Very cool looking card. It has
GK-Chief, GK-Assailant (unhooded at that) and I think
but I'm note sure if it's GK-Guard or another monster
all performing a ritual around a Cobraman Sakuzy. I'm
guessing that the third GK is holding up the shield
that Cobraman Sakuzy is holding in it's own card. Now
that I look at it, he's also holding the same curved
sword as GK-Assailant... hhmmm? |

Monday 09/15/03: Rite of Spirit
PGD-100
Normal Trap
Select 1 Monster Card that includes "Gravekeeper's" in
its card name from your Graveyard and Special Summon
it in face-up Attack or Defense Position. This card's
activation and effect is not affected by "Necrovalley".
Here is the real power of Gravekeeper decks.
With Necrovalley on the field, all of your favorite
revival cards (Monster Reborn, Call of the Haunted and
Premature Burial) won't work unless you also have a
Gravekeeper's Chief on the field. Rite of Spirit
circumvents this and allows you to bring back your
Gravekeepers at your leisure. The nice part is that
you can special summon your Gravekeeper in either
attack or defense position (face up only) so if you're
in a bind, you can bring that Gravekeeper's Spy or
Guard back in defense mode to protect you. Like Call
of the Haunted, you can activate this during the
battle phase and attack with your newly summoned
monster. Also note that Necrovalley doesn't have to be
on the field in order for you to use this.
The only problem with this is that it ONLY works for
Gravekeepers so good luck getting anything else back.
However, it is a trap so it's chainable and it isn't
continuous like Call of the Haunted so the monster you
bring back will have a little more longevity. Of
course, being a trap, it gets messed up by Jinzo.
Great card. I'd raise an eyebrow (or both) if you
didn't use at least 2 in a Gravekeeper deck. This is
totally useless in any other kind of deck.
