Tuesday - Fushioh Richie/Nosferatu Lich:
PGD-031-Ultra Rare
Dark/Zombie/7/2600/2900
Effect: This card can only be Special Summoned from
your hand or Deck by offering 1 "Great Dezard" that
has fulfilled the condition as a Tribute. You can flip
this card into face-down Defense Position once per
turn during your Main Phase. As long as this monster
remains face-up on the field, negate the activation
and effects of all Magic or Trap Cards that
specifically designate this card as a target and
destroy them. When this card is flipped face-up, you
can Special Summon 1 Zombie-Type monster from your
Graveyard in face-up Attack or Defense Position.
Before getting into this card I'll go over Great
Dezard first:
Great Dezard
PGD-020-Ultra Rare
Dark/Spellcaster/6/1900/2300
Effect: When this monster destroys the following
number of monsters in battle, the following effects
are activated in order:
*One: As long as this card remains face-up on the
field, negate the activation and effects of all Magic
and Trap Cards that specifically designate this card
as a target and destroy them.
**Two: You can Special Summon 1 "Fushioh Richie" from
your hand or Deck by offering this card as a Tribute
during your Main Phase.
As soon as GD destroys a monster he becomes partially
protected from M/T so he can get have a better chance
to destroy second monster next turn and summon Fushioh
Richie.
Now on to the Nosferatu Lich, which sounded allot
better than Fushioh Richie does, but anyways, this
monster can make Zombie Decks slightly more playable.
It's effect to Special Summon a Zombie from your
Graveyard is a bit different, you can reborn the
Zombies that were previously destroyed or discarded
every time he gets flipped face-up. So you can easily
get back a Pyramid Turtle and run it into a stronger
monster to Special Summon a Zombie from your Deck.
The only good Zombies out at the moment worth using
with Fushioh Richie IMO are:
- Royal Keeper - Descent ATK boost - Re-flip effect
- Wandering Mummy - Only good to confuse opponent with
the Re-flip effect monsters; can make them unsure
witch monster to attack, play NoC or CoH on, Etc.
- Giant Axe Mummy - Works o.k. when played with
Wandering Mummy and other re-flippers.
- Des Lacooda - Re-flipper with Drawing Power, not bad
when playing an all Zombie Deck.
- Spirit Reaper - Why Not?
- Master Kyonshee - Highest ATK Non-Effect Zombie.
- Nightmare Horse - Only really effective if boosted.
- Patrician of Darkness - Choosing who they attack is
priceless.
- Shadow Ghoul - Descent ATK if given enough supplies.
- Castle Of Dark Illusions - Not actually a Zombie,
but gives them a good boost if played right.
- Pumpking - Only good when played with CoDI.
- Pyramid Turtle - Obviously to get monsters out
quicker.
And the obvious M/T to use with Zombies:
- Book of Life - Almost like a Monster Reborn and Soul
Release in one.
- Call of the Mummy - Good for using as Tribute Bait.
- Tutan Mask - Almost like a Riryoku Field + Trap
negation for Zombies.
You can play Book Of Taiyou on him but not Book Of
Moon, as well as NoC can be used against him but
Snatch Steal can't. I'm sure everyone knows what are
and aren't Targeted Effects by now so I won't go on
with listing everything.
Fushioh Richie can be fun to use, but with not being
able to boost his ATK except with Castle Of Dark
Illusions (as far as I can think), his ATK will
usually be stuck at 2600, sure he can still take out
Jinzo, Summoned Skull and others but with some
extremely powerful monsters due out, this guy may not
live too long, even for being undead.
Ratings:
Casual: 3.5
Tourney: 4.0 - If used right.
ArtWork: 3.0 - Cool looking undead guy, could have
used more detail in the drawing but I'm also surprised
they didn't edit out his horns or horn-like head
thingies. I would also LOVE this card if it were still
named Nosferatu Lich since Nosferatu is my favorite
vampire movie/story. |

Fushioh Richie, 9/2/03:
This card has such a stupid name in English. I mean,
it'd be cool if they'd left the second part as "Lich,"
but "Richie"? Just because "richii" is the correct way
to pronounce it in Japanese doesn't mean it should be
phonetically spelled that way... "Nosferatu Lich" just
sounds way better....
Anyway, this card's probably going to be the
forerunner of Zombie decks in English for awhile. I
know, kinda sad, huh? To summon this monster, you need
to:
1. Summon a Great Dezard. Minimally, this'll cost you
a tribute.
2. Destroy two monsters with it.
3. Tribute it.
So that's a total of two tributes and two deaths by
battle. Sounds kinda difficult. But when Great Dezard
destroys one monster, it gains protection from
targeting magic/traps. Still, Dezard needs to be alive
for at least two turns to summon ol' Richie.
Once you get past the difficulty of summoning it,
there's the effect. Basically, you'll get to summon a
Zombie from your cemetery every turn (kinda like CotH
in the anime!). Considering how horrible zombies are
in English, this won't really be that helpful. You
could summon a Kyonsee, a Royal Keeper, a Reaper...
and... that's about it. Well, you could always use
them for tributes, right? Although tributing two
monsters to bring out another monster just so you can
generate tributes sounds really pointless...
And Richie itself isn't that bad. 2600-ATKer that's
immune to targeted magic/traps. That'll stop Magic
Cylinder, Ring of Destruction, Change of Heart, Snatch
Steal...
Unfortunately, if you plan on using this card's effect
in the next turn, you'll have to flip it face-down.
Face-down, FR loses its protection from targeted m/ts
and is killed by Sasuke Samurai or NoC. That's bad.
Overall, this card is really for use in a specialized
deck based around zombie-rush (it may sound funny now,
but in the future it may actually be decent).

Monday 09/02/03: Fushioh Richie
PGD-031
7/2600/2900
Dark/Zombie
Effect Monster
This card can only be Special Summoned from your hand
or Deck by offering 1 "Great Dezard" that has
fulfilled the condition as a Tribute. You can flip
this card into face-down Defense Position once per
turn during your Main Phase. As long as this monster

At first glance, Fushioh Richie looks like an amazing,
unbeatable monster.
Well, that is somewhat true... if you can get him onto
the field. The ability to special summon a Zombie
monster from the graveyard every turn is simply
incredible. You can fill the field in a hurry then
swarm your opponent and it'll all be over in 1 or 2
turns. His immunity to targeted magic and traps makes
it so that only a few cards like Raigeki, Dark Hole
and Torrential Tribute can get rid of him.
The biggest drawback is managing to summon him. Great
Dezard needs to kill 2 monsters in order for you to
summon Fushioh Richie. Great Dezard, being 1 tribute
and only 1900 ATK makes this a very difficult task. He
generally doesn't survive long enough to get the job
done. Anyways, Fushioh Richie, since you'll generally
want to flip him facedown at the end of each turn, is
also somewhat vulnerable to things like Sasuke Samurai
and Nobleman of Crossout (this works because he's
facedown when it's used). His summoning effect also
isn't very useful early in the duel since you probably
won't have many Zombies in the graveyard unless you
use Painful Choice.
Great monster with killer effects but freakishly
difficult to summon (although still not nearly as hard
as Gate Guardian). I personally would not play him in
a Zombie deck (or any other deck for that matter)
since you'll end up wasting a lot of cards trying to
get him onto the field and by the time you do, it will
probably be too late.
