Stats:
Fiend Comedian is a normal Trap card. It has no
trigger restrictions (though would do nothing if
there were no cards in your opponent’s
Graveyard), so I feel it would have been better
as a Quick-Play Spell, so that it could be
played from hand. I find Jinzo/Royal Command to
be only as troublesome together as Imperial
Order, so the “playing from hand” would put it
over the top.
Effect(s):
Possibly the ultimate in removal cards. You
flip a coin, and if you call it right, you
remove all of their cards from play that
are in their Graveyard. I have removed over 20
cards from play in one shot with this thing.
There is a powerful downside though- call it
wrong and you have to discard from the top of
your deck a number of cards equal to the amount
in your opponent’s Graveyard. I have had to
discard over 20 too. 8-X As I believe the
inability to discard from your deck due to lack
of cards results in a loss just as the inability
to draw to due a lack of cards in deck does. So
far, this card looks awful as a result.
Uses/Combinations:
So why play this thing? It’s the combos. First
combo that is the least useful is running it
with Exodia. Timed
right, it will thin your deck perfectly, but if
you blow it you might deck yourself out before
you can assemble the pieces. Generally you
wouldn’t use it unless you had the right mix of
pieces and Back-Up Soldier cards so that it
can’t fail. Second least useful trick is with
something that requires you remove monsters from
the discard to do an effect, but then you may
need to avoid discarding certain monsters (like
Dark Necrofear), making it a little better than
Exodia. A much
better use is tying in with the week’s theme is
with Shadow Ghoul or Chaos Necromancer-as long
as you don’t deck out, discard all of that
monster and all of your monster recovery, you
are more or less set. Fiend Comedian can also
counter all of the above, but the best use it to
supplement and counter one card that is in many,
many decks: Fiber Jar. As long as you avoid
decking out, chaining to Fiber Jar -for sure
legal if it was Flip Summoned, and I believe
there is a chance to chain even if it was
attacked and flipped. Anyway, so long as you
don’t deck out by it, then if you get it, your
opponent is severely hurt, and if you call it
wrong, it won’t matter since it all gets
shuffled back in.
Ratings
Casual:
3.5/5-A not so good card that counters a great
card and helps some good cards.
Constructed:
3/5-Same, but you know how it is: more cutthroat
here.
Limited:
1.5/5-Little use here, unless you combine it
with another set or the starters.
Summary
I think it could have been better, but unless
they ban Fiber Over here, it’s a card you should
pack if you have the room.
