ExMinion OfDarkness Tuesday:
Seal of the Ancients

This card just comes so close to fitting the definition of TeCH...one of those cards that falls just short of being able to play one of it competitively.

You get to see every card your opponent has down...that's a good tactical advantage, especially if your opponent went first. Being able to prepare for any threats before they happen is what hand control is all about.

The main reason that this card won't be played is because it does too little. If it either didn't have a cost, or you got to see your opponent's hand as well, this would be a card we might actually see used against us in Duels.

Sorry for the short review...but there's really not that much to say about this card. Your deck slot is better used with a card that wipes out your opponent's threats (HFD, Raigeki, Dark Hole, Heavy Storm...) or prevents them from hitting the field (pre-negators) rather than just a card that tells you what they are.

1.5/5.
Omega Seal of the Ancients isn’t what you would call a broken game-breaking card. But it could be useful when you’re setting up for a huge combo move that you really need to pull off.

This is a card that clears all the fears of a face down mirror force or any other combo stopping cards.

Now if it were free the card might see a spot here or there, but at the steep cost of 1000 Life Points people expect a game changing effect.

Keep in mind this card refers to all “Cards” on the field, that means you get to look at both your opponents Spell/ Trap field, as well as their monster field.

Overall this won’t see much play at all. The 1000 Life Point payment just kills any playability this card had. Maybe if it were free people might consider it I’m giving Seal of the Ancients a 1/5. I’m sorry, but 1000 Life points is a lot for a lackluster card.
Otaku

Stats: Seal of the Ancients is a normal Spell Card.  This is fine, though technically I suppose it would be better as a Quick-Play, so it could be activated on your opponent’s turn.  Actually, perhaps it should have been a permanent Spell, and given the option of re-using the effect…

Effect(s): This card lets you peek at all of your opponent’s set cards.  That’s actually pretty useful.  However, you must pay 1000 Life Points to activate it.  Eeeep!  It’s just worth a slot in your deck, maybe, but definitely not worth 1000 LP.

Uses/Combinations: If you need to waste LP and need to see what your opponent has, then I guess this is good.

Ratings

Casual: 1.5/5-Maybe in a Last Turn deck?

Tournament: 1.25/5-Same, but even more lame.

Limited: 2/5-The heads up might be useful if you are about to deliver the final blow and all that is in your way are a few set cards.  That cost means that it will only be used for checking the safety of delivering the final blow.

Summary

A card that would have been iffy if it was free is bad when it costs 1000 LP.  Maybe if it was a permanent Spell card so that it could be re-used, and had less of a cost (probably free), it might be tolerable.

Tranorix Tuesday: Seal of the Ancients

Another mediocre card, Seal of the Ancients doesn’t really fit into any deck. First off, you have to pay 1000 LP. Life Point payments are never a good thing; in today’s game, people usually play Delinquent Duo, Premature Burial, Imperial Order, and Chaos Emperor Dragon; sometimes you’ll see Magical Scientist and Confiscation as well. More LP payment just isn’t good, especially with all the CED’s running around. Now the effect…well, it’s near worthless. So you’ll see whether it’s a DDWL or a WotBF. Was that worth 1000 Life Points and the wasting of a card? Or you know whether it’s Mirror Force or Waboku. Okay, fine…it’s still not worth it. Take into consideration that your opponent won’t always have set cards, and also consider that you won’t always need to see them. The only possible good use I can think of is in a Last Turn deck, to make sure your opponent isn’t going to stop your Last Turn by using CotH on Jinzo and to bring your LP down another notch. Seal of the Ancients is a terrible topdeck and won’t (dare I say, shouldn’t) see much play.

Rating in typical tourney deck: 1.2/5
Rating in Last Turn deck: 2.2/5
OVERALL RATING: 1.7/5
