Chain Burst is like the stupid counterpart to Curse of
Darkness. I know that I said that last week about
Mephist (which is still a good card, by the by), but
Chain Burst isn't exactly as good as Mephist.
Most of the time, your opponent runs very few traps,
and a good deal of those are going to be defensive
tools like Sakuretsu Armor or Waboku. This thing
protects itself against Dust Tornado, and that's
about it. MST, Heavy Storm, and other magic cards
all kill this thing without fear. Dust Tornado and
Raigeki Break fear it for a second or two.
The advantage to using Curse of Darkness was
doublefold. The first was that it did damage. The
second was that it acted as a deterrent and a
staller for more than one third of the cards in the
average deck. People make offensive moves with Magic
cards. They have powerful effects and can be played
on your turn so you can set up for an offensive
move. When you have to take damage to start the
offensive, you are going to be deterred, especially
since they will likely have something to counter.
Traps are counteractive. Save for Ring of
Destruction, Call of the Haunted, and Compulsory
Evacuation Device, they are mainly going to be
activated in response to an offensive move.
That in mind, use it if you find some uber-productive
way to do so. In burn:
3/5 Traditional
3.8/5 Advanced

Chain Burst
The first card I reviewed for Card of the Day here
was Curse of Darkness. That review was never posted,
however I guess I submitted it too late. But today
we're reviewing Chain Burst, the long-lost brother
of Curse of Darkness. It's a Continuous Trap, a pro
and con; but the effect really wouldn't work in any
other type of card (except maybe a Continuous
Spell).
This is Curse of Darkness for Traps. It's not quite
as effective, then, as Curse of Darkness is; people
tend to play fewer Traps than Spells, after all.
Regardless, this card can utterly ruin an opponent's
strategy if he DOES play a lot of Traps. Forcing him
to pay 1000 to activate each one will simply
decimate him. Getting a little lock with Curse of
Darkness and Chain Burst out will almost make him
cry, trust me. Throw in Chain Energy for more fun.
But because of the rather low frequency of played
Traps, it would probably be best to Side Deck this
card. In the Main Deck, I'm not sure how effective
it would be it would really depend on the Decks
against which you're playing.
Traditional CCCC: 2/5
Traditional Side Deck: 3.5/5
Advanced Side Deck: 4/5

Chain Burst
Hello, Curse of Darkness for Traps.
Honestly, I don't see this getting as much play as
Curse of Darkness might. The card does the same
amount of damage in the same way...but the only
problem is that decks generally pack about 17-18
Spell cards and only 7-8 Traps. I'd rather restrict
my opponent from playing Spells than Traps.
The plus side to this card is that if you're ahead,
your opponent won't be able to save themselves from
multiple attacks.
Sorry for the short review, but I don't see a lot of
combos, maybe a side-decking at best against a
Trap-heavy deck.
Traditional: 1.5/5
Advanced: 2.5/5 (anti-Burn, maybe, but G-Bind shows
up less than MoP/LLAB)

Chain
Burst
Today’s card is Chain Burst, a card that is
extremely similar to Curse of Darkness.
Effect: Chain Burst has a simple effect; whenever
somebody activates a Trap Card they lose 1000 Life
Points. Of course the problems arise that A.) the
average deck doesn’t use a lot of Traps and B.)
Chain Burst is a Continuous Trap making it
vulnerable to Heavy Storm, Mystical Space Typhoon,
and (if your opponent wants to use them) Dust
Tornado and Raigeki Break. Point A is not that bad a
fact; Chain Burst will just encourage your opponent
to not use any of their eight Traps. Point B is also
not to bad a fact in Advanced Format, but in
Traditional you’re just wasting a card when you use
Chain Burst. With all that said though, Chain Burst
doesn’t really compare with Curse of Darkness, but
it could be helpful. Effect – Between Adequate and
Good.
Combos: Use a Curse of Darkness or some other Spell
stopping card with Chain Burst and you’re opponent’s
options could be considered limited.
Usability: Chain Burst doesn’t work in any one deck
better than another, but a deck using it should not
have many Traps.
Chain Burst doesn’t compare in usefulness to Curse
of Darkness, but it’s still a decent card.
Advanced Format: 2/5. Trap Cards aren’t used in
enough bulk to make Chain Burst truly devastating to
the average deck.
Traditional Format: 2/5. Trap Cards aren’t used in
enough bulk to make Chain Burst truly devastating to
the average deck.
Overall: 2/5.
Art: 2/5. I’m guessing a Trap is being blown up? If
it is then the picture doesn’t match the effect.
