One of the lesser known "chaos" monsters from Invasion
of Chaos, Gigantes has a pretty interesting stat
set. 1900 attack puts it under Berserk Gorilla but
above just about everything else. That, and many
monsters playable in decks today are EARTH monsters.
Note how I mentioned Berserk Gorilla earlier.
Basically, don't run more than 1 unless you have the
EARTH monsters to RFG.
Now for the effect. If there's one thing I like
about "backlash"
cards, it's that they often have more effect than
cards whose only purpose is to stall. People look at
a Swords of Revealing Light and think "Three turns
or an MST." People look at Gravity Bind and think
"Okay, just need to draw a few of the 3-stars I have
in my deck."
When you have something like a Curse of Darkness or
a Gigantes out, though, the mentality can become
that of "No threat at all" and gradually increase to
"I need to plan out my moves two turns in advance
just to keep my LP above 0."
So the basic idea with Gigantes is that he's a
beatstick. 1900 attack kills a lot. But his effect
will clear the entire field in a rentsy fashion.
Let's see… It won't do squat against a Gravity Bind.
It will really hurt the people who are using
Necrovalley or Call of the Haunted. It'll stop a
Wave Motion Cannon. Unfortunately, Gravity Bind and
Wave Motion Cannon are two cards that you have to
worry about killing that your opponent won't kill.
And, in the case of Gravity Bind, that you can't
kill by running him into a stronger monster in
attack position. But think about it this way… Your
opponent plays down a Gigantes and no s/ts while you
have two s/ts on the field. To inflict some damage,
you have to kill a Gigantes in battle. While it is
an offensive threat, it hinders your offensive
threats and makes them squirm. Your opponent attacks
it somehow, they lose their m/t (and you lose
yours.) The obvious way to play it is to play
nothing (or in the case of certain decks, cards that
need to be destroyed like Dark Coffin or Smoke
Grenade of the Bandit) so that you lose nothing from
the Heavy Storm effect of Gigantes. Unfortunately,
that also means you have an all-or-nothing gambit
with Gigantes. You can't protect him with a Magic
Drain or something from a removal card because
you're going to lose the cards if he dies in battle
anyways.
It is an interesting monster, and there are a lot of
situations where this could stop the game entirely
(ever seen someone Premature Burial a monster out
and Call of the Haunted another one out?). On top of
that, if needed, you can just ram it into something
and get the effect if you want to clear away a Wave
Motion Cannon or something.
It probably works best in EARTH decks, but it could
be useful in a Gearfried control (uses Smoke Grenade
of the Bandit with other hand control cards like DD
Designator and Drop Off to keep the opponent's hand
useless. Using it in a Gearfried Control would
destroy your own Dark Coffins/Smoke Grenades while
destroying your opponent's cards too).
Standard decks:
2.8/5 Traditional
3.6/5 Advanced
Gearfried Control/EARTH deck:
3.8/5 Traditional
4.2/5 Advanced

Gigantes
I already reviewed Gigantes once, and
I gave him a pretty nice rating; that rating is a
little higher now. He’s still got great ATK, 1900;
and the ability to be Special Summoned simply by
removing an EARTH monster from play is great. EARTH
Beatdowns are a force to be reckoned with, thanks to
things like Goblin Attack Force, Berserk Gorilla,
Enraged Battle Ox and Marauding Captain.
Then we see his effect. If he’s
destroyed as a result of battle, he destroys all
Spells and Traps on the field. So your opponent
won’t want to kill Gigantes in Battle if he’s got
some crucial Traps down. Of course, you can always
ram Gigantes into something of equal (or greater)
strength on your opponent’s side of the field if you
really want to kill something that’s
bothering you.
I strongly recommend Gigantes for any
offense-based deck that has at least four or five
EARTH monsters in it. Pure Chaos Decks seldom does,
but Chaos Warrior certainly can manage it.
Traditional – CCCC: 2/5
Traditional – EARTH: 4.5/5
Advanced – CCWC: 3.5/5
Advanced – EARTH: 5/5
OVERALL RATING: 3.8/5

Gigantes
Today’s card is Gigantes, a monster with an effect
similar to Heavy Storm.
Gigantes has pretty good stats. A 1900 ATK will
allow it to do a good deal of damage to your
opponent. Unfortunately this good ATK comes with
summoning restrictions, forcing Gigantes to only be
initially Special Summoned by removing an EARTH
monster in your Graveyard from play. While this
effect should be easy to use in the right deck, if
you’re going to Special Summon Gigantes you’d prefer
a higher ATK, wouldn’t you? Oh well, Gigantes gets
by.
Gigantes’s actual effect causes it to destroy all
Spell and Trap cards on the field when it’s
destroyed in battle. While being destroyed in battle
is slightly easier to achieve in Advanced, Gigantes
ATK may run into problems; not many low level
monsters can beat it. Of course if your opponent
does manage to summon a stronger monster, they run
into the problem of do they want to destroy Gigantes?
Chances are they’ve got a S/T on the field they’d
like to keep. While they could just make the card
into a sacrificial lamb or chain it to Gigantes’s
effect, they may be hesitant. Other than that,
Gigantes has an effect that could be very useful.
Just make sure you don’t have any valuable S/Ts Set
while he’s on the field.
Gigantes only works in decks with a good deal of
EARTH monsters. Anywhere else and your odds of using
Gigantes are slim.
Gigantes is certainly a valuable monster to decks
with lots of EARTH monsters. But sadly EARTH
monsters aren’t common enough for Gigantes to become
a frequent sight. Maybe someday he’ll rise in
popularity.
Advanced Format (EARTH Deck): 4.5/5. Good monster +
good effect = good rating.
Traditional Format (EARTH Deck): 4/5. Gigantes is
just as good as in Advanced but there are more
reliable S/T Card removals here in Traditional.
Overall (EARTH Deck): 4.25/5.
Art: 3/5. How big is he? He appears to be holding a
tree is his hand; that’s pretty big.

Gigantes
Here's a card half
of all Duelists most likely never played, and a
good bit never even heard of. For removing only
1 Earth monster from the graveyard (wow, only
1!), you get a beatstick with a built-in Heavy
Storm when it dies in battle.
Really, I don't have
a heck of a lot to say on this card -- if you're
not ramming it into an opponent's 1900 or higher
to get the effect, the opponent won't attack it
if they have multiple S/T cards down. That
could give you at least one more turn, and gives
some extra support to the Earth deck overall.
Sorry for the short
review here -- if you're playing an Earth deck,
play it. If not, don't. Enough said.
2.5/5 in the
Traditional Earth deck (hand advantage > all
here)
4/5 in an Advanced
Earth deck
1/5 all else

You know, no matter how many different decks are
introduced in every set, I think Earth themed decks
are ALWAYS the best. I mean if you think about it,
all the way back to Nimble Momonga, some played
Giant Soldier of Stone over Wall of Illusion, then
Goblin Attack Force, I believe then came Gemini Elf
along with Rock Spirit...exiled force maybe? (right
around the same time ne ways...), Injection Fairy
Lily, then somewhere along the line, King Tiger
Wanghu was introduced along with Gigantes in the
next set? Berserk Gorilla is earth also, Enraged
Battle Ox, Prickle Fairy, then came along Kinetic
Soldier, etc...
~NOTE~ I could've forgot couple key earth
monsters...i'm not the GOD of Yu Gi Oh dxP
Basically I'm trying to prove that Earth monster
have been and probably always will be dominant in
the metagame. In this case, we look at a card that
was ALLL over the GenCon time...gigantes...ugly
looking beast that's (well in my opinion) better
than Rock Spirit. Heavy Storm in the new set? c'mon,
gotta give it props....
Soo if you think about it, the card's actually
SOLID...but why is it that not many people win
regionals with it and/or you see playing this card?
Well Chaos Sorceor/Black Luster Soldier...they all
seem (and are) better than any other remove
earth/dark/light, etc... monsters out there right
now. Granted Exiled Forcing away a Jinzo and then
Summoning Gigantes and attacking for game is a plus
BUT how bout launch Cannon Soldier for 500 along
with 3/4 Scapegoats doing 2000/2500 damage and then
special summoning Black Luster Soldier sound? You
see my point? it's just not good enough to replace
BLS in everyone's eyes.
Now for the earth deck people (I remember when I
used to be the only one running that a LONG time
ago...) using Kinetic Soldiers + Giant Rat + Fiber
Jar + Injection Fairy Lily + Berserk Gorillas +
Exiled Force + Gigantes or so....that deck isn't
that bad at all...try it if u want...
