Different Dimension Dragon
(Light/Dragon/5/1200/1500)
The effect of a Spell or Trap Card cannot destroy
this card unless the Spell or Trap card specifically
designates a target. This card cannot be destroyed
as a result of battle when this card battles with a
monster with an ATK of 1900 or less.
Super Rare
First off, some of
you may be asking, what exactly CAN destroy / CANNOT
destroy Different Dimension Dragon? Cards like Dark
Hole, Raigeki, Fissure, Mirror Force, or Torrential
Tribute CANNOT destroy Different Dimension Dragon
because they do not specifically designate a target.
Cards like Dark Core, Raigeki Break, Ring of
Destruction, or Trap Hole CAN destroy DDDragon
(shorter name) because they DO designate a target.
In addition, Tribe-Infecting Virus, although
non-targeted, will work on DDDragon, because it’s
a MONSTER effect, not a Spell or Trap effect.
Now, onto the review.
This card definitely has potential. Aside from
having immunities to the massive removal Spell and
Trap cards, its stats (mainly its defense) are
pretty decent as well. With 1500 defense, if it were
in defense position, a Don Zaloog or Mystic Tomato
could not destroy it. In addition, the commonly
played 1900’s like Archfiend Soldier, Luster
Dragon, and Skilled Dark Magician could not destroy
it because of DDDragon’s second effect. Only a
handful of monsters would be able to destroy it
through battle (Jinzo, Vampire Lord, Injection Fairy
Lily, a counter-less Breaker, and Reflect Bounder).
Sure, it is 5 stars,
meaning you’d have to tribute to bring this guy
out, but you probably won’t be running this in
your average beatdown / control deck. This card
really shines in a Light / Fairy deck. Using Shining
Angel, you could bring this card out very early in
the game without a tribute, keeping you relatively
safe from most major removal cards. Additionally,
you could use this card’s effect in an offensive
way. Your opponent has lots of monsters on the
field? Normal or Special summon this card, and then
activate Torrential Tribute. All your opponent’s
monsters will die, but Different Dimension Dragon
will not. If you have DDDragon on the field, along
with a Witch or Sangan, use Dark Hole, and search
for Yata-Garasu. Your opponent loses card advantage
through Yata, AND you have a monster to block for
you.
Tournament: 2.7/5 –
Good solid card, makes Light decks more
tournament-viable
Draft: 3.2/5.0 –
Always fun to see your opponent work hard just to
get rid of one card.
Artwork 4.0/5 –
Great abstract picture.
Closing Line –
What’s that in your hand? Raigeki, Dark Hole,
Mirror Force, and Torrential? My Dragon laughs at
you.
