Monster Gate
In a word, sweetness.
Scientist decks got a HUGE boost from this card. 3x
Reasoning + 3x Last Will + 3x Monster Gate = just sick
and wrong. You give up a monster, but you're
guaranteed to get one with the same drawback of
Reasoning (you lose the cards picked up in between the
top of your Deck and the next card you can legally
summon.)
Scientist decks use this...DMoC decks can use this,
any deck that wants to use an obscene amount of
high-level monsters can use this...Any deck that uses
more than three Tribute monsters should be running
three of this.
It's the best card a n00b can use that they never
will. (Sorry for the shorter review again. There's not
much to say; it's a fairly good card. Just keep in
mind it's a HORRIBLE topdeck if both of you have
nothing on the field.)

Tuesday: Monster Gate
Monster Gate is an interesting common that we got in
Ancient Sanctuary. It's similar to Reasoning in that
both allow you to Special Summon monsters (potentially
higher-level monsters) without tributing, but there
are a few differences.
Whereas Reasoning has your opponent call out a Level,
Monster Gate has you sacrifice a monster. Whereas
Reasoning may or may not Special Summon anything,
Monster Gate almost always will. So there are some
definite advantages to using Monster Gate over
Reasoning.
For one thing, Monster Gate combos excellently with
Scapegoat, and other Token-producing cards. It's not
inconceivable to have a deck consisting entirely of
high-level monsters and a few cards that produce
Tokens. You could just sacrifice the Tokens for
Monster Gate's effect and virtually be guaranteed
ALWAYS to summon a high-level monster. That isn't bad,
not at all.
Of course, you could also use it in a deck revolving
around Magical Scientist and the OTK, just as you can
Reasoning. Again, the cards are very similar. I prefer
Monster Gate, but it's really up to you to decide
which is better.

Stats:
Monster Gate is a normal Spell Card. Generally, only
the most potent spells should be “normal” Spell cards,
since simply put, being “normal” is probably the
worst, since its only Spell Speed 1… well, I guess
that it’s only worse than being a Quick-Play in most
cases. I mean, if it were an Equip, being stuck on
the field would mean it would be destroyed to possibly
stop the effect… though if the effect were made
re-usable by being a Field Magic, then that wouldn’t
be worse. At least it’s not a Trap.
Effect(s):
Monster Gate is somewhat interesting. You tribute a
monster on the field to semi-randomly Special Summon a
monster (that can be Normal Summoned) from your deck.
Unfortunately, that means dual restrictions-if
something can’t be Special Summoned, it would be an
illegal target (like Yata),
and if it couldn’t be Normal Summoned, then it would
also be wasted (Chaos Monsters). I’d compare this to
Magical Merchant, but with Magical Merchant, precious
Spell and Trap cards can’t be wasted (although you
have to wait for Merchant since it’s a flip effect).
Also, you might end up Special
Summoning… a Sinister Serpent. Or
a monster that you could just Normal Summon on your
own anyway.
Uses/Combinations:
Maybe in my kooky Chaos Necromancer or Shadow Ghoul
decks? Maybe a Last Turn deck?
This just seems kind of awkward to me. As for how to
run it better, try monsters that summon other monsters
(Mystic Tomato dies, bringing for Sangan… and you
Monster Gate it to get something big into play and
something useful into your hand.
Ratings
Casual:
1.75/5-Something that might work for decks whose heavy
hitter met all the requirements. Still pretty random
though.
Tournament:
1.25/5-Again, very, very few decks might be able to
make use of it.
Limited:
2/5-A little better here.
Smaller, more monster heavy decks. With a
little luck, change the puny defender whom you bluffed
with last turn into a strong attacker, or maybe even
the one fattie you pulled.
Summary
Too
random for its own good.
If the cards that were ineligible were just shuffled
back into the deck, it might have worked out okay.
Hopefully, I am just missing something that the other
reviewers will catch-I’d rather be wrong and get a
good card than be right and have another
bleh one. |

Tuesday - Monster Gate
Another AST card that toNy knows EVERYTHING
about...since he hasn't play tested it cuz he's in
korea...
... just kidding, I don't know jack %#@! about this
card dxP!
This card seems reallllly interesting. It's called
Monster Gate and I'll try to explain WHY this can be
good
I'm not too sure on the ruling but I'm almost sure
that it has to be 4 stars or lower and doesn't say
"can be special summoned by" (( besides Gilasaurs - if
that the right spelling? ))
Also, you guys remember Reasoning. It goes in the
stupid FTK (first turn kill) decks with Magical
Scientist, Catapult Turtle, etc...or do my FTK exodia
one! dxP
It's basically a harder version and not as good but it
has it's Pros
If you need one monster to die with Last Will, this
card isn't bad AFTER comboing with reasoning. You
basically have game if you can get magical scientist
out afterwards. And this puts your Dark Magician of
Chaos in the grave soo if you have Monster Reborn,
etc...you have a LOT more options of Magic cards.
BUT! The important thing is that you realize this is
one of those "situational" cards. It's like reasoning,
but harder (for you to use, not your opponent), and
you NEED to tribute a monster on your side of the
field. Basically, it's another reasoning but worse.
Like Monster Recovery compared to Reload. It's like
the same thing, but not really.
What do I think of this card? I'd basically never use
it in a constructed deck that I expect to win with.
Boo rating to this card dxP

Monster Gate
Scientist speed. Fun, fun-ity, fun, fun, fun.
Pros:
Increases speed. It lets you also summon another
creature that turn. The more the merrier, eh? It can
also let you set off your Sangan, Witch, or Emissary,
which isn't bad.
Cons:
Kills any other cards picked up. It also kills your
CED and BLS because it goes until it gets to a monster
that can be Normal Summoned, not just any monster. It
also needs a sacrifice to work.
Overall, I give Monster Gate a 7.3/10 because it does
have some usefulness. |

Tuesday: Monster Gate
Rated
For:
Dark
Magician of Chaos/Magical Scientist One Turn Kill
Decks.
Monster Gate is yet another card that has either
intentionally or unintentionally boosted the dreaded
Catapult Turtle/Magical Scientist OTK combo. In
conjunction with tribute fodder such as sinister
serpent and the two searchers, Monster Gate is an
effective tool for bringing 2 tribute monsters into
play.
Advantage F/H:
Monster Gate is a spell that fits into the
aforementioned decktypes because they pack a lot of
dead weight anyway. Basically, you're giving up two
cards (the monster and this spell) to get another
random monster out. It won't work for chaos monsters
and others with special summoning requirements, but in
tribute heavy decks the effect can be lethal. 6/10.
Best
Draw for the Situation:
Basically, you're almost always going to be able to
use this card. You're rarely going to draw into it
because, in most OTK decks, you're either going to hit
the combo or concede the duel right there. Therefore,
on the merits of an opening hand draw, it gets an
8.5/10.
Attributes/Effect:
The
important thing about this card is that it possesses
great synergy with many of the current cards found in
the OTK scientist deck. In short, it combos well with
Dark Magician of Chaos, Catapult Turtle, Last Will,
Reasoning (which provides a monster usually), Sangan,
Witch, and such. It's also a spell instead of a slower
trap, which is crucial for these decktypes. It greatly
increases the speed of the deck. 9/10.
Dependability:
Once
again basing this assessment on getting this card in
the opening hand, it becomes pretty clear that you'll
be able to use this card. Out of all of the cards
usually found in the OTK deck, you'll certainly find a
monster that can be used with this card.
Unfortunately, there are certain rare cases where you
may not. 7/10.
The
Bottom Line:
It's
not like the Scientist deck is pressed for space
anyways! Run it!
A BAD
Score: 30.5/40= 7.625/10.
Cards
it combos well with:
Magical Scientist, Catapult Turtle, Reasoning, Last
Will, Sinister Serpent, Sangan, Witch of the Black
Forest, Dark Magician of Chaos.
