Tuesday:
Blasting the Ruins
Today we look at much bigger Burn card. This will be
a decent card to look at for a specific Side Deck in
the future, but right now won't be very good.
It's VERY difficult to get 30 cards into the
Graveyard. Even with Painful Choice, Morphing Jar,
Card Destruction, etc...you'll most likely deck out
(or get your opponent decked out) before you can
activate this thing. Factor in all the graveyard
hate right now stemming from the Envoys and you've
got yourself a recipe for disaster (or a wasted
opponent's M/T removal card at best.)
For NOW, this card gets a 1/5...but when Reversal of
Worlds comes out, I'm moving this up to a 3/5. Once
you've activated Reversal of Worlds, and have
swapped your Deck with your Graveyard, you'll have
almost 30 cards in there -- and if you pulled this
off early, that means that most of your drawing
cards were used and put into the Graveyard -- which
is now your Deck! So this will be a very good option
to pick.
Imagine the possibilities...Painful Choice 3 of this
and two other cards, have that be involved with the
Reversal of Worlds...and then you have a nearly 30
card graveyard with 3 Blasting the Ruins left in the
small Deck. |

Tuesday: Blasting the Ruins
Today's card is Blasting the Ruins, an interesting
little common Trap from IoC.
The effect is simply amazing. 3000 damage is an
incredible amount; in a Burner, it will more likely
than not win you the duel. But there is a pretty big
restriction on this card; your Graveyard must have
30 cards in it.
Now, taking into consideration that most decks only
have around 40 cards, the playability of Blasting
the Ruins is lowered quite a bit. Obviously it will
only work late-game, but there's no guarantee you
(or your opponent) will even survive long enough for
your Graveyard to accumulate 30 cards.
This card can work if a deck is built around it.
Thunder Dragons, Giant Germs, Nimble Momongas,
Painful Choice...all of them will speed things up.
Still, though, there's no guarantee your setup will
be perfect. Blasting the Ruins is an okay card, but
it's nothing spectacular.
Typical tournament deck: 1.5/5
Burn deck (focused on this card): 3/5

Stats:
This is a normal Trap card. It would almost
certainly be better as a Quick-Play Spell card,
but at least this way it doesn’t have to worry
about Imperial Order.
Effect(s):
Simple-first, the card can only
be activated when you
have 30 or more cards in your Graveyard. Then
this card inflicts 3000 damage to your
opponent’s LP.
Uses/Combinations:
Most people see this and wonder what idiot would
play this. Well, I would. Why? Because I have
an abnormally large deck (remember my “Madness”
Week-I listed many of the key cards) that
trashes itself to power up Shadow Ghoul and
Chaos Necromancer to obscene levels. This is
fantastic burn for that deck. In a normal burn,
it is something to consider, as well as for a
stall deck (and a must for a Stall/Burner).
Once Reversal of Worlds (Japanese name) is out,
this could be more useful too, in case the
normal deck out strategy fails, or as a counter
to it.
Ratings
Casual:
2.5/5-It works well in my casual deck, but
that’s a very small niche.
Tournament:
1.75/5-My casual deck fairs okay here, but my
testing has been sparse. So the card has an
even smaller niche where it is good.
Limited:
1/5-Arent casual decks like restricted to 20
cards (no more, no less)? If so, then this card
is only removal bait, which isn’t really
needed. However, if you can build a larger
deck, then it would be solid, as I know the LP
is only 4000 here.
Summary
Not a bad card actually: despite how it may
seem, this is just a very, very specific decks.

Blasting
the Ruins
Normal Trap
You can only activate this card if there are 30 or
more cards in your Graveyard. Inflict 3000 points of

IOC-048
Common
Nowadays, traps are really hard to use unless they
are easily chainable.
Having a chainable trap work is even hard. There are
widely used things like Jinzo, Mystical Space
Typhoon, and any other type of trap negation, or m/t
removal that just tear the traps up. The trap from
IOC, Blasting the Ruins, is no different from any
other normal trap Its effect on the other hand, is
real difficult to use and requires a lot of timing.
Blasting the Ruins’ effect states that it can only
be activated if, “there are 30 or more cards in your
Graveyard.” If this condition is met you can,
“Inflict 3000 points of damage to your opponent's
Life Points.” Sounds pretty good, the damage is big,
but when is this card useful? Its only useful late
in the game. This is a HORRIBLE top-deck. For one,
you have to get 30 cards or more in your own
graveyard! Maybe if it counted for both Graveyards
it’d be different, but no it has to be 30 cards or
more in YOUR graveyard. On top of that it’s a trap.
Meaning someone can chain a set MST to your nicely
set Blasting the Ruins and ruin it all for you. It
could help in a direct damage deck, but there are
just so many more things that can be used.
