Thursday:
Heavy Storm
Here we have another card that would fit well in
ALMOST any deck. This is one of the four major
"Field Clears" we have in this game -- Harpie's
Feather Duster, this, Raigeki, and Dark Hole.
This, paired with HFD, are the reasons why so many
people make their Trap cards chainable. Waboku is
seeing more play than Torrential Tribute simply
because Waboku laughs in Heavy Storm's face and
kicks it in the groin.
Still, this card should be used. And often. Heavy
Storm offers you a possibility of a 2-for-1,
3-for-1, up to a 5-for-1 yield of advantage.
However, the more cards your opponent has down, the
better the odds that they will (A) block the card
with Imperial Order or (B) chain half of their M/Ts
to this card (Waboku, Ring of Destruction, Call of
the Haunted targeting a Jinzo/Sangan/Witch...)
Most of the time you would play this card, you have
0 or 1 Magic/Traps down, and if you have more than
this, you're most likely only playing this card
because you know you'll win if it goes through
un-chained to.
This card rightfully belongs in the 5 or 6 cards
everyone uses to kill Magic or Traps (HFD/Heavy
Storm/3x Mystical Space Typhoon/Breaker the Magical
Warrior).
This card, like Jinzo, earns a 4.95/5, the .05
deduction this time taken because Burn/Stall decks
rely on keeping Traps and Magics on the field and
this card would not help them. |

Thursday: Heavy Storm
Heavy Storm, a Super Rare from MRD, is what I like
to call the Lost Staple.
We all know the seven (Graceful Charity, Pot of
Greed, Dark Hole, Raigeki, Harpie's Feather Duster,
Change of Heart, Monster Reborn) Magic cards that
are included in nearly all decks as "Staples", cards
without which no deck should be. Well, the
controversy is that Heavy Storm, logically, should
be on the list. Why?
Raigeki : Dark Hole :: Harpie's Feather Duster :
Heavy Storm.
Yet Storm isn't on there. Is it that destroying
one's own M/T isn't desirable whereas destroying
monsters might be? Is it that we have enough M/T
removal/negation (in MST and Jinzo and Breaker) that
Heavy Storm isn't needed as much as Dark Holee?
Regardless of the reason, Heavy Storm is not, in my
opinion, a Staple (though it was when it was
initially released). Destroying all M/T is a
powerful effect, but it isn't a card needed for all
decks, especially now with MST's running rampant.
Run it by all means; there's no real reason not to.
It is restricted. But don't feel as though you need
Heavy Storm in your deck in order to win. After the
bans come, however, its playability will increase;
without Duster people will crave a bit more removal.
Typical tournament deck: 4/5
Post-ban: 4.5/5
OVERALL RATING: 4.3/5 |

Heavy storm is, a simple name for a simple effect.
There won’t be any questioning of what this card
does; it’s simply destroy all Spell and Traps on
your opponents side of the field.
The smartest time you’ll want to use this card, is
right before a big combo move, or a critical attack
on your opponent, because why risk using some of
your best cards only to have them countered if you
didn’t have to.
What more is there to say about this card? Besides
it’s run in just about every deck made.
Heavy Storm earns a respective 4.5/5. Its only
downside is your field gets wiped out as well. |

Heavy Storm...this is one of those cards that are good
1st turn (like Nobleman of Crossout) --- do you see
the pattern of my COTD? ----
This is basically a Dark Hole for Magic/Traps...When
Heavy Storm baits out a Imperial Order, Waboku, and
even Jar of Greed, if you can kill at least 2
Magic/Traps with this card, then it did it's job.
Also, this is like a Nobleman of Crossout. One of
the most set cards in the game! How many times have
we set this card? How many times have we activated
it from the M/T zone?
This is one of the biggest debates in running a Yu
Gi Oh Deck...Making a 40 card deck is hard enough
but to decide which M/T removal to use is tough.
Most people use Jinzo, Breaker the Magical Warrior,
Harpie's Feather Duster, and 3 Mystical Space
Typhoon. Heavy Storm and Royal Decree are the extra
removal most duelist's use. --- notice the pattern
once more? ---
Heavy Storm (once again) is like a Dark Hole. One of
my friends who has won a regionals gave me this
explanation on this card: "If you are always going
to play Raigeki and Dark Hole, wouldn't it make
sense to play Harpie's Feather Duster and Heavy
Storm?" True right? Most of the time, yes. But once
again, going back to Nobleman of Crossout, you lose
soo many games because this card does NOT do
anything. This is one of those cards that are in a
deck but gets Painful Choiced to "thin out the
deck."
Soo how good is this card? Have you Mystical Space
Typhooned your opponent's Mirage of Nightmare and
then Heavy Stormed? It's amazing. Have you ever got
rid of a Mirror Force/Ring of Destruction/Torrential
Tribute ALL in one Storm? Have you baited out a
Scapegoat and then Raigekied his goats? Yes this
card is a very close staple but realize that running
this card means that your top decks WILL become
worse in the late game. Running Nobleman of Crossout,
same thing. Running these "very good in the first
hand but not so good in the later games" cards will
have it's negatives as well as positives.
I say Heavy Storm is a STAPLE in Beatdown, Chaos,
and Hand Control Decks. Other decks such as Creature
Control, Combo, and just normal Tomato Control decks
do not need it. If you depended on this card, try
running Royal Decree over it. Try running both of
them. (( For the record, Royal Decree is one of my
FAVORITE cards in the game )) See if Heavy Storm IS
your Dark Hole or if Heavy Storm is another Fissure.
