Monday:
Sanctuary in the Sky
Welcome to Ancient Sanctuary week. This week we'll
be reviewing cards from the new AST expansion. Our
first review is of the focal Spell card of the set,
The Sanctuary in the Sky.
This field spell is required for many of the Angel
cards in this set to get their effects, or to be
summoned (this holds true for almost every monster
we're reviewing this week.) But let's look at it on
its own, shall we?
You don't take damage to your Life Points when a
Fairy type attacks (or is rammed into another
creature). Let me make this perfectly clear: THE
MONSTER STILL DIES. It just prevents damage to life
points. For example, you could ram your Shining
Angel into a Jinzo. You would take no damage, but
your Shining Angel would still be destroyed (and
then you search your DDWL to ram into the Jinzo
anyway.. muahahaha...)
Obviously, this card is only meant for Decks that
are nearly pure Fairy-type, or use this card as an
effect boost or a summoning requirement. Otherwise,
there are better choices for your Deck. It's a nice
bonus for those who want to take the path less
traveled and run a Fairy deck.

Monday: The Sanctuary in the Sky
For what I can only assume is part of a Flag Day
celebration, we're finally reviewing some Ancient
Sanctuary!
First of all, it's important you realize that The
Sanctuary of the Sky will protect your Life Points
but NOT your monsters (it's like a Field Magic
version of Kuriboh). That said, it's still a nice
card; you'll be able to leave some weaker Fairies
(like Venus or sometimes Mars) in Attack Mode
without worrying about taking a huge hit to your LP.
Aside from that, the use of TSotS itself is pretty
limited.
Of course, the real point of this card is so that
the Fairies get to use certain effects. It gives
Mars the effect, it gives Saturn the effect, and
Zerato can't even be summoned without it. If you're
running a Fairy Deck and want to make use of some of
the new ones we get in AST, TSotS is really a must.
Just make sure you have some way to protect it
(Magic Drains and Judgments of Anubis work well).
Typical tournament deck: 1.5/5
Fairy deck: 3.5/5

Welcome to day 1 of Angel week. Getting us started
with these fairy themed cards is The Sanctuary in
the Sky!
When this field card is on the field, any battle
involving a fairy monster will result in 0 battle
damage. This means a permanent Kuriboh for your
fairies NOT a permanent Waboku, as your fairy type
monsters will still be destroyed.
Not only is this effect pretty good for an Angel
theme deck, but it is also required to be on the
field for several cards to work (all reviewed this
week).
Being a field card, it has to be on the field for
the card to work, so be careful about Mystical Space
Typhoons and other cards that will kill this card.
The Sanctuary in the Sky gets a solid 4.5/5 in an
Angel theme deck, as it provides a solid defense, as
well as opens up several combo possibilities with
other angel cards. |
