Tuesday:
The Agent of Force -- Mars
The Fairy type effects you get from Sanctuary of the
Sky being in play seem to involve a bonus when you
have more LP than your opponent. This is one of
them. There are two ways to do this:
1. Get a couple of early shots in at your opponent's
Life Points, and press the advantage
2. Life Gain. If you're playing a Fairy deck, you
may have a couple more ways than normal to gain life
points from various effects.
This card can become pretty sweet. If you ram your
opponent with a big hitter, suddenly this thing is
going to be as strong as the hit was. Equips and
boosts mean a bit more to Fairy monsters when you're
playing this card.
The only problem: The Sinister Six (Feather
Duster/Heavy Storm/Breaker/3x MST). If they kill
your Sanctuary (SitS), then this has 0 attack.
That's begging for one big free shot -- heck, even a
Yata could attack this and still cost you a Draw
Phase.
Bottom line: If you play this, you BETTER be able to
protect your Magic or Trap cards well.

Tuesday: The Agent of Force – Mars
Mars is a very interesting monster. Granted, her
stats are terrible (of course, they make her
searchable by Witch, Sangan, and Shining Angel); but
she makes up for that with her effects. The first is
extremely useful: She can't be affected by Magic
Cards. Your opponent's Raigeki = useless. Change of
Heart = useless. And so forth.
The real strength comes from Mars's other effect.
Get your Life Points high or your opponent's Life
Points low (or both), and Mars will come out with
potentially game-breaking stats. There are many ways
to gain LP in this game, and a good number of them
are reliable: Poison of the Old Man, Mystik Wok,
even Solemn Wishes. Mars makes these cards even more
worthwhile, and it certainly is worthwhile to
include Mars in a Fairy deck.

Mars is my favorite of all the Agents. When used
correctly this monster has the potential to become a
huge powerhouse that gets under gravity bind.
Alone this monster is terrible, a 0/0 that is
unaffected by magic cards won’t win you any duels.
However once The Sanctuary in the Sky is in play
this monster has limitless possibilities.
With 0 attack and defense points, The Agent of Force
– Mars can be searched from your deck through both
Sangan and Witch of the Black Forrest, not to
mention Shining Angel.
An Angel theme deck is one that focus’ on life point
gain; (Guardian Angel Joan immediately comes to
mind). For every life point you have higher than
your opponent this monster gains 1 attack and
defense point. This will punish your opponent for
using cards like Delinquent Duo, or Solemn Judgment.
Mars also has another effect that protects him
against all spell cards, this is a double-edged
sword, on one hand Mars is safe from just about
anything your opponent tries to do. But on the other
hand without The Sanctuary in the Sky on the field
you won’t be able to boost him up with any of your
own spell cards. Now I feel the pros outweigh the
cons in this situation, but be cautious when using
Mars.
In a WELL BUILT Angel Deck Mars deserves a solid
4/5, his only downside is without The Sanctuary in
the Sky he reverts back to a 0/0 monster. Also in a
well-built LP gain deck you shouldn’t have any
problem having a powerful monster in Mars. |

Mars is an interesting angel from Ancient Sanctuary.
Spells cannot destroy this monster, so raigeki and
dark hole are useless when facing Mars. Its special
ability is unique as well.
The ability Mars possesses is a continuous effect,
meaning it can be applied during your turn or your
opponent's turn, whenever your life points change.
Do you have a strong defender on the field? Chain to
an opponent's attack on Mars with Mystic Wok, gain a
good chunk of life, and watch Mars pummel the
attacking creature. There's a lot of life point
gaining combos to work with this monster. The only
real weaknesses this guy has is if you're down by
quite a lot of life late game, or if you cannot
protect your Sanctuary in the Sky. If your Sanctuary
is destroyed, well...Mars is screwed.
Constructed: 3/5
Limited: 1.5/5
Horrible card to draft in limited. The odds of you
pulling a Sanctuary in the Sky AND Mars is
incredibly low. Remember, he has a whopping 0
attack. |
