Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Dark Magician of Chaos
Ultra Rare

Spellcaster / Effect Monster
When this card is Normal Summoned or Special Summoned successfully, you can add 1 Spell Card from your Graveyard to your hand. A monster that is destroyed by this monster as a result of battle is removed from play instead of going to the Graveyard. When this card is destroyed or removed from the field, it is removed from play.

Type - Dark / 8 / 2800 / 2600
Card Number
- IOC-065

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale 1 being
the worst.  3 ... average.  5 is the highest rating

DM7FGD To see all I have to say about the Dark Magician of Chaos (not to be confused with the Magician of Dark Chaos, the Ritual Monster), simply go to the following link.

Note that it will be Restricted to one.

Omega  This is quite the interesting card. But I guarantee it will be Limited to 1 as soon as possible to avoid any cheap shenanigans going on.

Let me explain, if you are somehow able to put 3 Dark Magician of Chaos’ into your graveyard (through Painful Choice for example), all you would need is a simple Monster Reborn to revive all 3 of your Dark Magician of Chaos. How do I do this you ask? Well it’s all in Dark Magician of Chaos’ effect. Basically when you Special Summon 1 to the field, you are able to bring back the Monster Reborn you just used to revive another, and finally again for your 3rd one.

Pretty cheap wouldn’t you say? We haven’t even broken the surface of this cheese. Dark Magician of Chaos shines because every monster he destroys is removed from the Game. Now while this may be good for setting up for a Dimension Fusion or something, the monster removed may be Witch of the Black Forrest, or Sangan. That would really suck for your opponent.

The only notable downside to this monster is that when he leaves the field by any means, he is removed from the game. So this means Penguin Soldier would not send him back to your opponent’s hand, but instead removes him from the game. Most look at this as a bad thing. However would you really want your opponent to have this under his control with a simple Monster Reborn? I sure wouldn’t

This is such an awesome card that it almost pains me to say that it fits best in a Magician/ Spellcaster deck.

I give Dark Magician of Chaos a perfect 5/5. It’s simply an amazing card.
SomeGuy Wednesday - Dark Magician of Chaos

I'm sure just about everyone knows about the new One-Hit-KO monster that is Dark Magician of Chaos. (Until it's restricted of course. Which will happen eventually.)

All that's necessary is multiple DMoC in your graveyard, preferably three if you haven't dealt any damage yet, with a Monster Reborn in hand. Simply cast Monster Reborn targeting DMoC, and when it resolves grab Monster Reborn from your graveyard via DMoC's effect. Repeat this process until all DMoC are on the field. With the final DMoC effect, you generally want to use some sort of field clearing spell. Whether it be Harpie's Feather Duster, Heavy Storm, Raigeki or Nobleman of Crossout.

With the aid of Painful Choice, this combo can be accomplished within the first couple of turns.

Even disregarding the One-Hit-KO strategy, Dark Magician of Chaos will still see plenty of play. The effect is great, and the fact that he's a playable Dark Magician will attract his many fans.

DMoC is a bomb in Limited. Although his effect is nice, it usually won't have a game-breaking impact on the game. It's the fact that he has 2800 ATK that will win you matches in this format.

Ultra Rare.

This card is one of the most playable two-Tribute monsters I've ever
seen -- so much so, that it's restricted to one in Japan, and most
likely will be here (SO ABUSE IT NOW!)

Pros:
*Dark Ruler Ha Des effect -- get rid of that pesky V-Lord, Sangan,
Witch, Nimble, Tomato, Pyramid Turtle, etc. without any nasty backlash.
*Magician of Faith effect allows you to get a Spell card back that will
help you make sure it's safe to attack (a Magic/Trap clearer, or
Raigeki, etc.) *SOLID attack for a two-Tribute.

Cons:
*Removed from the game when it leaves the field by any means. It needs
to be protected.
*Two tribute monsters were never the most playable things...

Combos:
Painful Choice + Monster Reborn
Painful Choice all 3 into the Graveyard. Monster Reborn one, get back
Monster Reborn, use it on the second, get back Monster Reborn, use it
on the third, get back yet ANOTHER Magic...this won't ALWAYS work
because if your opponent knows what you're planning, they'll give you
one of the Black Magicians to prevent you from getting all 3 on the field.

It's not a bad idea to use 1 of this; a combo deck that runs 3 can get
a quick kill.

I give this card a 4/5.

Stats: Dark Magician of Chaos is a Level 7 monster.  Aside from making it hard to normal Summon, this is also a Spell Caster, and thus a legal target for Diffusion Wave Motion (not a ground breaking combo, but useful).  Dark has some good support, so being Dark is probably a plus.  2800 ATK is good for a level 7 (since it’s the same tribute cost, it gets compared to the level 8 monsters like BEWD, so it’s still not great).  A DEF of 2600 makes it unsearchable, but also makes it hard to run over in DEF mode if you have to use it to defend.

Card Text (Effects): This card has two great effects, followed by one kind of “meh” one.  When you normal or special summon this card, you get to add a Spell card fomr your discard back into your hand.  This sets up for some sick combos, like dropping 3 into the discard via Painful Choice, then using a Monster Reborn to review all three-the effect lets you recycle the Monster Reborn twice, then the last card can be a Raigeki or HFD to clear the field.  2800 x 3 =8400, enough to finish a completely uninjured opponent.  This is just on reason why this card will be banned.  The second effect is that when this card destroys a monster as a result of battle, it is removed from play.  The third effect is supposed to help tame it down, but has some benefit to it as well.  When this bad boy is removed from the field, it’s removed from the game instead!  The downside is obvious, but the upside is that this prevents your opponent from snagging it with a Monster Reborn.  It also sets up for a combo…

Uses/Combinations: ...especially before it’s restricted-if you pull up the above combo to summon all three, but don’t kill them off, either let your opponent nuke your boys, or you can nuke them yourself, to remove them from play.  Then (assuming they have at least one monster removed from play), use Dimension Fusion to summon all 3 back, letting your grab 3 Spell cards form your Graveyard to (how about Raigeki and HFD to clear the field, and then Dimension Fusion in case something goes wrong again).  There is a Quick-Play (yeah, Quick-Play!) Spell card, Dedication Through Light and Darkness, that lets you special summon this card from your deck, hand or Graveyard by offering a Dark Magician on the field as tribute.  This wouldn’t be impressive, except that Dark Magician himself can be special Summoned in a similar manner by the effects of Skilled Dark Black Magician (a level 4 1900 ATK monster)!

Ratings

Casual: 4/5-Not sure if I should really rate this too high… only because this really isn’t “casual” material.

Constructed: 4.5/5-Note, since even without support, it’s a good card.  In decks that revolve around it… whoa! @_@

Limited: 4/5-Sure, your probably won’t have a cool of Spell Cards to revive, but it’s a big monster anyway-the effects are just the icing on the cake!

Summary

Good card.  Too good, like so many-it only didn’t get a “5/5” from me because it could still be more over-powered (realistically-that is, without becoming ludicrous).
