Chaos Emperor Dragon.. One of the most raved about
cards in the game. Check the following link out for
a whole load of information on CED, including CED
and Priority, from my 32nd article.
http://pojo.com/yu-gi-oh/FeaturedWriters/DM7FGD/2004/01-19.shtml
Note, though, that cards activated in response to
CED, such as Torrential Tribute, will *remain* on
the Field until CED's Effect fully resolves, so the
activated cards *will* count towards CED's total
Effect damage, since they'll still be on the Field
at the time of CED's Effect resolution.
And don't think CED's only use is the Witch/Sangan
on the Field Yata lock.
CED's a 3000 ATK, easily-Summon-able Monster that's
capable of doing some heavy damage to your opponent
even without using its Effect. You can't just rely
on Yata with CED, and doing so would be a mistake.
The CED-Yata-Lock's just a bonus that you're capable
of achieving in a Chaos Deck, and it all happens by
pure coincidence. Getting a Searcher on the Field
and having Yata in your Deck when CED's Effect
resolves should not be the main focus of a Chaos
Deck. CED can also be useful in Burn and Dragon
Decks.

Fri 03.19.04 - Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End
Okay, so his name is Envoy of the End. What exactly
does CED put an end to? Man, what DOESN’T it…
Pros:
+3000 ATK
+Special Summoned virtually for free…
+Effect completely obliterates hand/field for both
players and does a
+nice amount of burn damage
+Is chainable to many effects that would destroy it
Possibly the most
+broken monster card (not being banned) in the
English game
Cons:
-Hard to get, about 1 per 2 boxes
-Book of Moon, Kycoo, Jowgen, Soul Release, etc. can
hinder the use of this card -Opponent can
Change/Snatch it and use it’s effect -_- -Requires
you tune your deck to the light/dark path
Combos:
*see below…
Ah yes, Chaos Emperor Dragon, or “CED” as it is
called, was perhaps the single most anticipated card
in the English game thus far. One of two secret
rares in the set, it is obviously bound to get some
attention, and rightfully so. Not only is it a
3000/2500 Beast of a card, but it has one of the
most devastating effects in the game, as well. The
ability to ‘blow up’ both you and your opponent’s
hands and fields and then inflict DIRECT damage to
your opponent’s life points only at a ratio of 300
times each card has 2 important uses - a) you have
just taken away every last option your opponent has
and b) your opponent takes a whopping amount of LP
damage, this is VERY good in the early stages of the
game. Not to mention the fact that this is THE top
deck to win games. As long as you have those 2
monsters in the grave, if you are getting royally
slaughtered but draw this, you can summon, attack
for an enormous amount, then explode, and kind of
reset the top deck war.
Furthermore, as control is still a popular deck,
there is also a very convenient and very CHEAP win
with CED + Yata in combo. All you need to do is get
out a sangan/witch of the black forest onto the
field in conjunction with your CED, then when you go
BOOM, all cards will be destroyed (including your
opponent’s hand) and you can search for Yata from
the sangan/witch, put it in your hand, and win
because your opponent has no hand and cannot draw.
Also, the amount of damage they take off of CED’s
effect means you don’t have to have another attacker
on the field along with Yata (often times people who
are essentially ‘yata-locked’ end up winning because
200 LP every turn will deck the Yata player before
the opponent runs out of LP). It’s definitely no
problem with the big emperor dragon giving off a big
bang first.
Also, another trick to use when summoning CED, or
any of the Chaos monsters actually, is to remove
powerful monster from the game as part of the
special summoning requirement. Then, play dimension
fusion and return all these powerful cards to the
field as part of a mass special summon.
Trust me, this card WILL BE (or I should say,
already is) in 99% of tournament WORTHY decks. It's
too damn good NOT to play.
Ratings:
Constructed: 4.5/5 Few things stop it
(besides counters like solemn judgment/horn of
heaven) and it has the most devastating effect in
the game. Oh, and it’s a beast of a monster who
comes out easily as a special summon. BROKEN.
Limited: 5/5 Good Game you win.
So like, run this, aiite? |

Chaos Emperor Dragon -- Envoy of the End
IOC-000
Lvl 8
Dragon/Effect
This card can only be Special Summoned by removing 1
LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard from
play. Pay 1000 of your Life Points to send all cards
in both players' hands and on the field to the
Graveyard. Inflict 300 points of damage to your
opponent's Life Points for each card that is sent to
the Graveyard by this effect.
The most coveted card in the set -- and for good
reason. When Legacy of Darkness came out, everyone
flocked to Yata-Garasu. The only thing worse than
having to face a deck with the bird in it is finding
a card that combos so well with the bird.
With the same summoning requirements as his soldier
brother, he's fairly easy to get out. The effect,
though not as versatile, is quite game-breaking. Pay
1,000 life, clear fields and hands, and heavily
damage your opponent.
However, I can easily see n00bs playing this card
poorly, costing themselves the game.
Things NOT to do when using this card:
*Attack while the opponent has anything set that
could possibly be a Mirror Force, Magic Cylinder, or
something that would destroy CED
*Use the effect haphazardly -- unless you have
something special set up, your opponent will get
first draw afterwards. If they get a summonable
Monster, that could very well be game.
Combos:
Interdimensional Matter Transporter
Use CED's effect, then chain Interdimensional Matter
Transporter on him. IMT removes him from the field
of play -- but his effect still goes through! This
means you killed everything, did damage, and CED
comes back next turn.
The big combo most everyone already knows about --
the Chaos-lock. Use Painful Choice to dump Sangan,
Witch, another Dark monster, and 2 Light monsters
into the graveyard. Use Premature Burial, Painful
Choice, or some other effect that lets you and only
you get a monster from the graveyard. THIS is the
key to the specific monster selection.
*If they give you Sangan, Reborn on Witch, and
remove the other Dark and one of the Light monsters
to summon CED.
*If they give you Witch, just do the same with
Sangan.
*If they give you the Dark monster, Reborn Sangan or
Witch and remove the others.
*If they give you a Light monster, it still doesn't
matter because after the Reborn you still have the
monsters in the GY to perform the summon.
Use Chaos's effect. Everything goes boom. You're
still in Main Phase one. Take Yata-Garasu (if he is
still in the Deck). Summon, attack, lock.
Some things to watch out for:
*Waboku: If your opponent activates Waboku in chain
to the effect, you may not want to take Yata. If
your opponent gets a monster, then you're in
trouble.
*An opponent's Witch or Sangan: THEM getting a
monster is definitely not what you have in mind when
using this.
*Fear/Despair from the Darkness: If they have either
of these cards in hand, they would get triggered by
CED's effect, and then they'd either have a semi-beatstick,
or a big bruiser on the field waiting for you.
*Barrel Behind the Door: It has already been ruled
that you can use BBtD on Chaos's damage, so you'd be
taking 1,000 + 300 for every card sent to the Grave.
If this doesn't kill you, and you can still fetch
Yata, you still win, just be wary of this.
*Skill Drain: If they chain this to CED's effect,
you wasted 1,000 life points (but so did they). Just
hope you have a MST in hand to chain to the Skill
Drain.
And just so you all know, you can chain his effect
to Trap Hole, Bottomless Trap Hole, Torrential
Tribute, or anything that doesn't specifically
negate the summon. Thank heavens for priority.
This card belongs in many, many Decks. Since most
decks already use Light and Dark monsters (thanks in
part to D. D. Warrior Lady) it doesn't require a
complete overhaul to use this or his brother.
4.75/5 for being sick and wrong, no 5/5 because it's
not staple.
Banlisted: This card gets a bit weaker because
Painful Choice, one of the big cards used to dump
things into the grave, can no longer be used. 4/5
there. |

Stats:
Ah, Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End,
last of the “Chaos” Monsters. It’s a Level 8
Monster, so it needs to be strong to compete
with the big boys, and it is. This is a Dark
Dragon, so there is ample support for it. It
has the 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF that makes it
worth the various summoning requirements: both
are stats that few monsters can rival, and that
will mow down/block most competition. Of
course, this is not why the card is played.
Card Text (Effects):
First, this card can only be Special Summoned by
removing one Dark and one Light monster from
your discard pile. I would take this to mean
you can’t Monster Reborn (or the like) it, since
that is a Special Summon… but I could be wrong
(I passed the judge exam, but am having trouble
getting access to the rulings still -_- ). Or
perhaps that means that if you Special
Summon it through
some other means, you must do that? Let the
other reviewers explain this, because sadly, I
do not know. >_< As for the other effect, it is
very, very useful when used right. First, about
how many cards do both players have on the field
at a time? In my experience, I would
“guesstimate” about 10: both players with 2 in
hand, two set S/T,
and one Monster on the field. So unless I am
grossly high, that means you pay 1000 and
they’ll take 3000. If your deck is a more or
less average control
beatdown and they aren’t running a
life-gain deck, this probably will be a
finishing blow mid-to-late game.
Uses/Combinations:
Not to seem like a slacker, but since I have
neither used nor faced this card, I will just
post two link’s to DM7FGD’s articles on this
(and our last two CotD’s)
card.

Ratings
Casual:
4/5-Again, I am docking it because it’s not
really casual. I suppose you could do a weird
deck with it, and it would still be potent…
Constructed:
4/5-The obvious Yata
combo aside, it looks to be a good finisher.
There are just enough things that can go wrong
with CED’s set-up to
make me like it less than Dark Magician of
Chaos. Hey, I consider Solemn Judgment and
Waboku to be
staples, remember?
Limited:
5/5-First, I probably underrated Black Luster
Soldier-Envoy of the Beginning here-spazzed
and forgot you start with only 4000 LP, making
it a 5/5 as well. Here, chances are when you
summon CED, you can
use its effect for close to 4000 damage, since
hands tend to run larger here.
Summary
Another broken card that probably shouldn’t
exist, but will until the powers that be get a
clue on game balance and card design. If you
got it, you should probably run it.
