Friday: Fusion Sword Murasame Blade:
We began the week with a card that works well with
Gearfried, and we end the week with a card that
works well with Gearfried.
This card is a big asset to Warrior decks, not just
the Iron Knight. Marauding Captain couldn't be taken
out by a normal Beatstick with this on him. Zaloog
becomes outright feared. Goblin Attack Force isn't
as much so, because it'll be in Defense half the
time.
Looking at this card, let's assume for the sake of
argument, that you're not going to kill it with an
attack. You have your Dark Hole and Raigeki (as
always), but let's look at the big four monster
removal effects: Exiled Force, Tribe-Infecting
Virus, Magical Scientist, and D. D. Warrior Lady.
Exiled gets rid of it, and gives the Exiled player a
hand advantage because he used one card to get rid
of two.
T-Virus gets rid of it and gives the same advantage.
Scientist has more trouble now, because the highest
summonable monster is 2100 (unless you're also
running 3 Mirage Knights, in which case you pretty
much win right then and there). Most players don't,
so you can safely assume the Scientist player would
have to suck up the monster with Thousand-Eyes
Restrict.
D. D. Warrior Lady would lose life but still take
out the monster. (Oddly enough, she becomes a bit
more feared with this thing on her as well; she can
kill something normally, and then wait to use her
removal effect until later on.)
Under normal tournament gameplay, this card gets a
2/5 in normal decks, but a 4/5 in Warrior decks.
(This card shouldn't be used in a deck with only 1
or 2 Warriors because a player can just play United
We Stand or Mage Power for a better boost.)
After the Ban list, there is slightly less field
clear, but it's still not much better. |

Fusion Sword Murasame
I chose this card because I HATE easy M/T removal.
This card is the Warrior Deck's best friend. It WILL
equip to Gearfried, but not to Freed. At any rate,
it turns most warriors into fighting machines that
can only be destroyed by Spells, Traps, or a big
monster. 2 of these on your Marauding Captain all
but guarantees the safety of all the Warriors on
your side of the field in battle. It turns Don into
a 2200 attacker, Gearfried and Dark Blade into 2600
attackers, and Buster Blader into a nearly
indestructible 3400 (not counting any Dragons). It
is priceless to watch your opponent scratch their
head when they play Heavy Storm and they lose their
own Traps, then realize that your equips are staying
put. How to get rid of it? Try to kill the equipped
monster, use Imperial Order, or use Book of Moon.
Other than that, you are probably out of luck.
4.5/5.0 As far as equips go, this one is
near-perfect. 800 is close to Axe, and is for the
most part a permanent addition to your Warrior. Any
card like this could only be realistically improved
by letting it be equipped to any monster, not just
Warriors... but what would be the fun in that? |

Stats:
It’s an Equip Spell card. I’d prefer it if it
were a quick-play that changed into an Equip,
but this is better than a Trap.
Card Text (Effects):
It gives an 800 ATK bonus to a Warrior. That’s
nothing special… until you realize that it can’t
be destroyed! What’s the main problem with
Equip cards? They get nuked or the monster they
are equipped to does. This takes card of half
the problem. For the record, you can equip this
to Gearfried and work-Gearfried’s
effect can’t destroy it, so he still gets the
boost. Freed will still negate it, but
it won’t be destroyed. Imperial Order still
negates it, Giant Trunade
can still suck it up, and Emergency Provisions
can send it to the Graveyard.
Uses/Combinations:
Running it as an equip card in a warrior deck?
:-P Seriously, if you are going to run an equip
card, most would run UWS or Mage Power. After
those, then I think you want this. The other
reason to run it is if you have some warriors
and more importantly, an effect that would make
you automatically have to destroy a card in
play, like Blast With
Chain. Just target this so that it fizzles (if
your opponent has nothing).
Ratings
Casual:
3/5-A good choice for Warrior-themed
decks, and most
themed decks are stronger here.
Constructed:
2.5/5-I really don’t think
its that great, but if you have room…
Limited:
4/5-In a set full or warriors, this is a pretty
good choice. It’s even good if you mix in
starters, since that MST someone thought was so
hot can’t nuke it.
Summary
Cool concept, it just needs a little more to be
really, truly great.
