Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Gigantes
Common

Rock / Effect Monster
This card can only be Special Summoned by removing 1 EARTH monster in your Graveyard from play. When this card is destroyed and send to the Graveyard as a result of battle, destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on the field.

Type - Earth / 4 / 1900 / 1300
Card Number
- IOC-021

ExMinion OfDarkness Wednesday:
Gigantes

This is the only card I'd actually play out of Special Summon RFG week. You only have to remove 1 monster, you get a Beatstick, and when it gets killed in battle, you get a Heavy Storm. Optimal use: Your opponent has a beatstick and M/Ts down (that aren't Mirror Force). You suicide this into their monster. Even if they Waboku, your monster still dies by battle, and the rest of their M/Ts go boom. If they have MF down, you're out of luck...

Plus, it's Witchable. Just like Breaker is a witchable MST, this is a searchable Heavy Storm, with more restrictions.

Despite the bad hand management, if you're playing an Earth deck, I'd seriously give 1 or 2 of these a whirl for that extra punch. Sometimes that one extra 1900 attacker is all you need to win. (Sorry this is so short, but I think that pretty much covers it.)

3/5 Earth Deck
Omega Gigantes is in my opinion the most playable of these new Elemental removal summons (minus the Chaos Monsters of course).

With a base attack strength of 1900 it will be a strong contender against a lot of opposition your opponent will throw at you, and with 1300 defense Gigantes can be searched from your deck with a Witch of the Black Forrest.

Being a special summon is a huge plus, epically when you need an extra monster to sacrifice, or even just to swarm your opponent Gigantes can do this with a simple removal of an Earth monster.

His secondary effect is what makes him great. When he is destroyed in battle you get a free Heavy Storm. However your opponent most likely not attack when he has his or her best cards face down, so the best way to get Gigantes’ secondary ability off is to hit him against a monster that is stronger to trigger his effect yourself. Use common sense when playing with Gigantes and don’t set your best cards if you plan to summon him.

Gigantes deserves a well-rounded 3.5/5

It’s really good card especially when setting up for swarms or Tribute. But it relies too much on having an earth monster in the grave. However having a deck with plenty of earth types could work very well, epically with a Dimension Fusion ready.
Tony ahhh, the new rock spirit. I wonder which one is better...hRmmm

Here's the thing about this monster: When building your deck, you have to ask your self if you want to make a monster that is supposed to die (so you can use Gigantes' effect) or do you want a monster to make it into a wall (2000 atk wall)?

Now remember that Gigantes or any of the monsters we will be reviewing this week cannot be summoned IF your opponent has a Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer on the field.

The advantages of this monster is if you have Mirage of Nightmare and you REALLY don't want to dig for a Mystical Space Typhoon so you suicide into a Slate Warrior or something.... It makes your opponent waste Tribe Infecting Virus, Dark Hole, Raigeki, etc...instead of trading with 1900 Atk (slate warrior, gemini elf, etc...) if they want their M/Ts to stay on the field

What's the negatives? Sometimes you REALLY don't want a Heavy Storm being played because you have important traps being set. Bottomless trap hole? Torrential Tribute?

Soo we know why it's good and stuff but let's think about which one is better: Rock Spirit or Gigantes

Rock Spirit is good...Vampire Lord suicides with it? Actually, even Beserk Gorilla suicides with it It stops Airknight Parshath COLD (which is a VERY good thing). Gigantes kills off Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer, Tribe Infecting Virus, Breaker the Magical Warrior w/o a counter, etc...It has a Heavy Storm effect...it seems good also right? I mean it kills off airknight Parshath too.

It's your call...do you rather want a wall or do you want a Gemini Elf? Your choice...

Tranorix Wednesday: Gigantes

Gigantes is probably the best of these monsters. 1900 ATK puts him in the lead as far as strength goes, and EARTH monsters are more prominent than WATER or FIRE. His effect also fits into quite a few deck types...so let's take a look:

You should not have any trouble finding good EARTH monsters to put in a deck. Goblin Attack Force, Gemini Elf, etc...Most of the best are Beatdown monsters, meaning this guy would go excellently in a Beatdown (an easily Special Summoned 1900 Beatstick = good).

Then we see his effect. If he's destroyed as a result of battle, he destroys all Magics and Traps on the field. It's like having a free Heavy Storm, and M/T removal is something vital for Beatdown decks, Traps like Mirror Force being one of the largest threats. Obviously the thing to do is not summon Gigantes if you have vulnerable M/T set.

Gigantes is one of the more overlooked monsters in IoC, though I have seen him used a few times. All in all, he is a very fine asset to the classic Beatdown.

Typical tournament deck: 3/5
Earth Beatdown deck: 4.5/5
OVERALL RATING: 3.8/5
