ExMinion OfDarkness Thursday:
Drillago

Here we have Black Tyranno's little brother. Instead of a 2-tribute monster that can attack directly under certain conditions, we get a no-tribute monster that can attack directly under slightly different conditions.

The problem here is that this condition is slightly less favorable. If you attack directly with this, and your opponent has stronger ATK-position monsters down, guess what? They're gonna kill this next turn if you don't protect it.

That having been said, if you CAN protect it, this thing's great. You can't use Gravity Bind or MoP, but you can use Wabokus, MF, Cylinder, and the like to save this guy. You'd need 5 direct shots to win...more if they block some attacks of their own, less if you use Limiter Removal. (That just screams abuse...a Jinzo gets out (whether yours or theirs) and 2 Limiters are played...if the Jinzo has to attack a Fiber, oh *$(% well, you did 6400 before that even happened.)

Tyranno is still admittedly better in some cases (you don't have to worry about its safety next turn due to attacks)...he'll be even better once he gets the errata that says Magic/Traps being down won't stop the effect...but this card is a great asset to a Machine deck or a Burn deck.

3.25/5
Tony Drillago? A machine? Possibly go in a machine deck? Maybe even in a tournament, non-machine deck? That's why I'm here ^^

Drillago is a normal 4 star monster with a decent effect but if used wisely during the late game, you'll probably win.

Remember that 1600 (in math terms) is 20% of your opponent's life points. Factor in paying for Imperial Order maybe once or twice, 1-2 prenegators, magical scientist's effect once, and just random hits (Magic Cylinder, Ring of Destruction, Monster damage, etc...) is already 50%-75% of your opponent's life points. Imagine if you can get drillago out and attack your opponent's life points directly for 20% and almost end the game (if your lucky, you end the game right then).

Well soo putting all the math aspects of the game aside, let's see the card in depth. It's the same strength as Tribe Infecting Virus, Breaker the Magicial Warrior (so there is some plus), but weaker than Freed the Brave Wanderer, Reflect Bounder, Enraged Battle Ox, 1900-2000 beats...

Most likely this card will be set in defense mode most of the time because it does not have the strength to be attacking constantly and living. But let's see this card in a machine theme deck...

Limiter Removal DOUBLES this monster's attack. It becomes 3200 ATK. The fact that you don't have to use Limiter Removal during battle and can activate during damage calculation makes this monster seem like a game winner. also, use cannon soldier too, that's another 1000 for launching monsters directly to your opponent's face (10%), and cannon soldier becomes 2800 AtK...soo that's 3200+2800+1000=7000. That means if your opponent used a prenagator (besides The Forceful Sentry), or a Magicial Scientist's effect, they just lost the game. Try this deck...it's really fun.

Stats: Drillago is a Level 4 Dark/Machine.  Very nice: no restrictions on summoning, so you can drop it without any trouble.  Dark has a little support, and Machine has some fantastic support.  The attack of 1600 is okay-not enough you’d play it without its effect, but only about 300 below par.  Almost wish it was 100 lower, so you could bring it out with Tomato or search for it with Sangan, or was 1450, so it could also go under Messenger of Peace.  Oh well.  The DEF, as always, could be a touch higher, and still be a legal target for Witch of the Black Forest.  1100 isn’t too terrible though.

Effect(s): The effect is what makes this card.  As long as your opponent only has face-up monsters with ATKs of 1600 or more on their side of the field, this monster can attack directly.  Not super powerful, but common enough of an occurrence.  I mean, while Beatdown isn’t the top deck, its still one of the most common, especially since so many decks fall under it.  With three Mystical Space Typhoons, Heavy Storm, and Harpie's Feather Duster, you should be able to keep out most interfering Spell/Trap cards.  So this is fairly nice.

Uses/Combinations: Well, 1600 on its own isn’t bad… its also not so great.  So toss it into decks where it will matter more, like a) burn decks, b) Machine decks, where Limiter Removal can double, quadruple, or sextuple it, or c) Suicide Beatdown, where Megamorph can double it.

Ratings

Casual: 3.75/5-Makes a nice finisher for the three decks I mentioned, since late game they probably have one resilient monster out and have blown most of their Traps by now.

Tournament: 3.25/5-Still good, but as we know, here is where you only encounter “proven” decks… or at least where the bulk of the competition will be that.

Limited: 4/5-You start with 4000 LP, Spell and Trap cards are less of the deck… this could lead to a surprise victory if timed right.

Summary

A good card when used in the right decks.

Tranorix Thursday: Drillago

What's more fun than a giant drill? Well...I'm sure you can think of something; the point is, today's card is Drillago, a rare from IoC.

He has 1600 ATK; not great, but not terrible. He has 1100 DEF; Witchable. He's DARK; Chaos food. He s a Machine; Limiterable!

But the effect is his true purpose, and it's a fairly decent one. If all your opponent has on his side of the field are face-up monsters with 1600 or more ATK, Drillago can attack directly (NOTE: If your opponent has set monsters or M/T, Drillago MAY NOT use this effect). It's a cool effect, and it can very be useful late-game against a beatstick or two. Imagine your opponent's frustration when his field full of 1900's does nothing to defend against your Drillago (extra fun with Limiters).

The effect is nice, but don't count on its working all the time. Drillago is all in all a fairly solid monster who's excellent in a Machine deck.

Typical tournament deck: 2.5/5
Machine deck: 4/5
OVERALL RATING: 3.3/5
