ExMinion OfDarkness Monday:
Thunder Crash

When Lord Tranorix had a Burn week a few weeks ago, he picked some pretty good cards to review. Today's card is well...craptacular.

This card Raigekis yourself and you do 300 to your opponent for every monster you have.

I'm going to go ahead and give this card a 1/5 now, because we already have a Spell superior to this in every way: Mass Driver. Mass Driver is a Continuous Spell that lets you Tribute a monster for 400 direct damage. At least with Mass Driver, you could fling what you needed and leave what you wanted. If you needed to do 2,000 Direct Damage to win the game and could fill all five slots, so be it. If you wanted to Change of Heart a high attacker, attack with it, then Tribute it and leave your monster standing, you could do that too.

Did I mention that Thunder Crash DOES LESS DAMAGE PER MONSTER?

Usually, you can't just give a card a low score just because there's a better card out there...if we did that, then all staples would get 5s and nothing else would get anything but 1. Even Chaos Sorcerer, the inferior BLS, got good marks.

But there is just NO reason to play this card over Mass Driver.

1/5
Otaku

Stats: Thunder Crash is a normal Spell card.  Personally, I feel it would be better of as a Trap and much better off as a Quick-Play Spell card.  This is due to the nature of the effects…

Effect(s): Nuke all your own monsters for a bit of burn equal to the number of them nuked times 300.  That means a maximum of 1500 damage.  Not bad, but not great.

Uses/Combinations: Clear the field of bad monsters… but why did you play bad monsters in the first place?  If it was Spell Speed 2, it’d be great for reacting to things like Ring of Destruction or Raigeki or Mirror Force.  Still, some decks do focus on delicate combos, and when said combos fall up, cleaning up the remains is needed for safety.  I guess if you are about to activate a Dark Hole, or need to kill a Witch of the Black Forest, it’d be useful.

Ratings

Casual: 1.5/5-There is probably some obscure deck that could use it…

Tournament: 1.25/5-…and that deck is even worse hear.

Limited: 3/5-New ball-game here: you each only start with 4000 LP, and monsters tend to build up quickly.  If you are ahead, this will probably let you finish a turn early, and if you are hiding behind a defensive wall when the opponent is again low on LP it would also help.

Summary

This week has a secondary theme to it for most cards: “They were almost useful.”  Most of these cards looked great… at first glance.  Then you notice things, like this being a Normal Spell card.  If it was Spell Speed 2, it would so rock.

Tranorix Monday: Thunder Crash

We're starting things off this week with Thunder Crash, a common from IoC.

The effect is simple, and looking at it you're probably thinking it's next to useless. You are correct. The damage will amount to 1500 at the very maximum, and that will not be often.

You give up card advantage when you use this card. Two cards (this and the monster) for 300 damage? Three cards for 600 damage? You're throwing away many resources just to do minor LP damage to your opponent; it really isn't worth it, even if you have control of your opponent's monster or Witch/Sangan on the field.

There are a plethora of better (and easy to find) Burn cards out there; Poison of the Old Man will do 800 damage with ONE card...and it's chainable. Cannon Soldier and Mass Driver do the same thing as Thunder Crash, but they do more damage and don't get rid of themselves in the process.

There is really no reason to run this card, even in a dedicated Burn deck.

Typical tournament deck: 1/5
Burn-swarm deck: 1.5/5
OVERALL RATING: 1.3/5
Kuro Basara Thunder Crash

As many of you have seen, Yu-gi-oh has a huge card selection. The selection
can vary from the crappiest of crap, then to mediocre, and broken. Thunder
Crash is just a mediocre card. It’s a normal spell card, and it’s effect
states that you can “Destroy all monsters on your side of the field. Inflict
damage to your opponent's Life Points equal to the number of monsters
destroyed x 300 points.” This isn’t TOO bad, but its not THAT good. For
one, it’s a normal spell card, so you can only use it on your turn. If it
was a quick-play it wouldn’t be so bad, because you could destroy your
monster before it would get CoH’d, or Theft’d. Its actual use though would
be in direct damage decks.

Most direct damage decks use Scapegoat. This card is pretty useful with
things like cannon soldier, and of course Thunder Crash. Why? Well you
see, on your turn you can activate scapegoat, or better yet on your
opponent’s turn, and then find your chance to use Thunder Crash. 3x4=12,
which isn’t a big number but still better than trying to get off a Polite
Intruding Trio/Lava Golem combo when you only have 1 lava golem in your
deck, and three scapegoats.

D/D Decks: 2.5/5

Tournament Decks: 1/5
