D.D. Assailant
Something that perplexes me is that D.D. Assailant
is almost never recognized as being playable at all,
simply because most people feel D.D. Warrior Lady is
better. She very well might be, but that doesn't
make D.D. Assailant any less playable. With 1700 ATK,
he can hold his own in battle; being a Warrior, he
has a lot of support cards.
If your opponent destroys this in battle, both
monsters are removed. It isn't optional, as DDWL is;
and this monster must be destroyed, unlike with DDWL.
Big deal. Most of the time, you'll use DDWL's
removal effect when she would otherwise be destroyed
in battle by a powerful monster. You may not be able
to use this effect quite as much as that one, but
there can be no denying its usefulness. It dies,
then what killed it dies. Set this and your opponent
is in for an unpleasant surprise.
I would definitely run this alongside D.D. Warrior
Lady in any Warrior Deck – in some cases (like in
dedicated Beatdowns, where ATK matters most), it
might even be better to run this instead.

Thursday:
D. D. Assailant
This card is the far less versatile version of D. D.
Warrior Lady.
Pros over DD Warrior Lady:
+200 Attack
Cons to DD Warrior Lady:
Earth-type -- Chaos fodder is more necessary and
anything that isn't a Light or Dark, barring a theme
deck using Earth types, gets shunned unless it's an
insanely important card (like T-Virus)
Effect is mandatory when this card is killed --
meaning you can't remove that searcher you just
killed, something has to kill IT for the effect to
trigger.
+200 Attack (Yes, I'm ALSO listing that as a con,
this makes it impossible to fetch with any elemental
searcher or Sangan.)
Basically, this card should be in a picture with
DDWL and about 1/10th her size, because he's about
1/10th as playable as she is.

D. D.
Assailant
Today’s card is D. D. Assailant, a monster that dies
in battle to serve its master.
Stats: D. D. Assailant has 1700/1600 ATK/DEF. The
stats are average for a Level 4 monster, but it
sadly is not searchable by Witch of the Black
Forest, Sangan, Giant Rat, etc. But, it is a
Warrior, allowing you to search for it with
Reinforcement of the Army and Freed the Matchless
General, so you’re breaking even. D. D. Assailant is
also an EARTH monster, giving it a few benefits
there. Stats – Good.
Effect: When one of your opponent’s monsters
destroys D. D. Assailant as a result of battle,
remove the attacking monster and D. D. Assailant
from play. The effect is rather useful in the fact
that it is monster removal, an effect that is
somewhat lacking in Advanced Format. The only
downsides to D. D. Assailant are that the effect
depends on it being destroyed as a result of battle,
something that may not always happen. In addition to
that is the fact that it must be destroyed as a
result of battle, not giving you the ability to use
the effect whenever it attacks or is attacked like
its female counterpart, D. D. Warrior Lady. Other
than that, D. D. Assailant is a decent monster
effect-wise. Effect – Good.
Combos: Not a lot of combos with D. D. Assailant
that you’d want to use, or that would be guaranteed
to work.
Usability: D. D. Assailant works best in a Warrior
Deck, but also works in a Remove from Play Deck. And
whenever D. D. Warrior is released in the TCG, you
could use it in a Different Dimension Deck.
D. D. Assailant is a monster that has everything
going for it, and could be an easy alternative to
DDWL.
Advanced Format: 3.5/5. Solid monster removal, but
it relies on dying in battle to use the effect.
Traditional Format: 3/5. Solid monster removal, but
it relies on dying in battle to use the effect.
Overall: 3.25/5
Art: 4/5. Cool monster. I couldn’t tell you what
that sword is called, but I’m sure it would cut
through you like butter.

D.D Assailant
Rated For: Any deck.
Those expecting the next member of
the D.D family to be anything remotely resembling
the hot black leather clad D.D Warrior Lady find
themselves sorely disappointed with this one’s
horrific artwork. Konami is the type to tease and
titillate us with Return from a Different Dimension,
then unload D.D Trainer’s and Assailants upon us.
But I digress, it’s time to focus on
the merits of the card itself.
Advantage F/H:
D.D Assailant, more so than its 1700
attack light cousin Reflect Bounder, provides an
interesting sort of catch-22 to your opponent. If
you have anything less than 1700 attack, you’re in
trouble. If you have anything higher than that to
kill me with, you’re still in trouble! The pure
logic of this card indicates it does indeed offer
significant advantage. It will allow you to maintain
solid field presence.

Best Draw for the Situation:
In situations where you’re
being overrun, this is a great option because it’ll
let you kill something lower than 1700, then take
down the higher attack monster the very next turn!
It’s just a great card while top-decking, in the
beginning game, and even in the mid-game. Don’t
underestimate it.

Attributes/Effect:
There are situations where this one
is better than its buddy, D.D Warrior Lady, and
many, many situations in which its not. For example,
you’re not going to be able to use his effect
against Spirit Reaper, Mystic Tomato, Pyramid
Turtle, and others. However, you are going to be
able to kill Tribe, Breaker, and other monsters
without having to sacrifice a resource. In many
cases, the effectiveness of both cards evens out,
which is saying a lot considering DDWL is one of the
very best. He’s also searchable by Reinforcement of
the Army, but not a Light type.

Dependability:
I personally like having the option
to use the effect, with the 200 point decrease.
However, this card is unquestionable better in
certain key situations, because the jump from 1500
to 1700 is very important. Once again, you can’t
argue with the logic of “anything under 1700 dies,
anything over 1700 is removed.” A true terror on the
field.

The Bottom Line:
A slightly underrated, but great
monster.
A BAD
Score: Traditional-- 3.75/5

Cards it functions well with:
Anything, really.

Our first
excellent card of the week. DD Assailant is the
second member we see of the Different Dimension
Family. The first we saw was DD Warrior Lady (though
it should have been DD Warrior as our first, way
back in MRD). Now we have the strongest, and what I
consider the second best, of the trio. DD Assailant
has an immediate disadvantage of being mandatory. I
prefer to choose when to remove and when to keep.
But it's not as though that's a bad thing -
normally, you can only benefit from removing a
monster that destroys it, ensuring that you lose no
card advantage. This won't be used too often because
of its stats, and because your opponent knows it's
coming. Something like Reflect Bounder. They won't
attack when they can avoid it. It becomes a
deterrent.
So what would I use her in? Most anything. I'm
highly biased towards it, and could see myself using
it in a warrior deck, an RFG deck, an EARTH deck, an
Exodia deck (because I see Exodia decks as fun
decks), and even a Last Turn deck. There is a good
reason for that, though.
If you activate Last Turn in their Standby Phase,
they can choose to lose or to tie with this on the
field. Same thing with DDWL, and soon, DD Warrior.
Last Turn decks now have more ways to tie or stall
the game until they can get a win off in tournies.
3.8/5 Traditional
4.3/5 Advanced.
I'm sorry, I'm VERY biased towards cards like this.
That, and DDA has some sick art.
