Ryu Kokki
This card has become the choice of Zombie deck
players for some time (well, since V-Lord got
restricted, anyway.)
This card isn't played for its effect -- it's played
for its type. The fact that it's a Zombie allows it
to be special summoned with Book of Life or Call of
the Mummy. Zombies tend to try and swarm powerful
monsters quickly, and this works well for that. A
2400 can kamikaze against most other 1 tribute
monsters if not killing them, and is something an
opponent may not be ready to deal with quickly.
The effect is a small bonus though -- it can
kamikaze with a Black Luster Soldier -- Envoy of the
Beginning (600 is a SMALL price to pay to get rid of
that thing, believe me) or Dark Magician of Chaos
(they both end up being removed but another
higher-end monster that can lose out to this
slightly weaker monster)
He's a Dark type...but if you're playing Zombie, I
think the last thing on your mind is summoning BLS.
Conclusion: If you're playing Zombie, play him. If
you're not, don't.

Ryu Kokki
Today’s card is Ryu Kokki, a monster that both
Zombie and Anti-Warrior/Spellcaster Decks love to
pieces.
Stats: Ryu Kokki has been given relatively good
stats. With 2400/2000 ATK/DEF, it can be searched
for by Pyramid Turtle. It’s a DARK monster, giving
it no particular advantages. It’s also a Zombie
monster, making it the strongest one tribute Zombie
monster currently in the TCG. Stats – Good.
Effect: Ryu Kokki’s effect is simple; when it does
battle with a Spellcaster or Warrior monster, that
monster is destroyed at the end of the Damage Step.
Simple right? No explanation required… Well, as
simple as the effect is, Ryu Kokki runs into the
problem of very rarely needing its effect. Currently
in the TCG there are a total of 14 Warriors or
Spellcasters with a higher original ATK than Ryu
Kokki’s, and only about 7 of them will appear in a
competitive deck. So as good as the effect is, Ryu
Kokki might as well be a Normal Monster. Effect –
Good.
Combos: DNA Surgery would give Ryu Kokki the ability
to destroy all monsters it does battle with
(assuming you used DNA Surgery to make them Warriors
or Spellcasters).
Usability: As said earlier, Ryu Kokki goes well in
Zombie Decks and Anti-Warrior/Spellcaster Decks.
Ryu Kokki is a good monster, but won’t be a common
sight outside a Deck focused around Zombies.
Advanced Format: 3/5. Zombies are successful and
popular in Advanced Format.
Traditional Format: 2.5/5. Zombies are successful in
Traditional Format as well, but not as common.
Overall: 2.75/5.
Art: 3/5. Well, now we know what happens to monsters
Ryu Kokki destroys; they become part of his body.

Ryu Kokki and Mephist both appeared in one of
JAELOVE's decks on the Pojo forums (which you should
all take a visit to, you'll learn a lot). I argued
with him about using one of both alongside VLord in
a Zombie deck, so now we'll both get to see each
other's opinions on the matter. :)
Ryu Kokki is something that should be used in
triplicate in Zombie decks. 2000 DEF gets out by
Pyramid Turtle, and the effect isn't something to
ignore. It will be useful at times. Zombie decks are
focused on Swarming, so who gives a crap about 4
tributes or more in a deck? Run VLord and 3 of these
with Call of the Mummy and Pyramid Turtle. You're
set. It is the definitive Zombie one-trib beatstick.
The effect is never going to hurt you, the stats are
brilliant, and it's easy to get. What are you
waiting for? Run one if you're running Zombie!
4/5 Traditional (I might consider using Despair from
the Dark instead, with control so rampant)
4.4/5 Advanced

Ryu Kokki
Rated For: Zombie Decks
This is a card you're almost forced
to use in a Zombie deck; thank the heavens he's so
good against so many threats. Ryu Kokki is the
singular beatdown force in the entire competitive
zombie player's arsenal, and I picked him in case
casual zombie users did not realize his use.
He's the zombie's counter to Jinzo,
Mobius, Black Luster Soldier, Dark Magician of
Chaos, and other overwhelming attack monsters that
would overwhelm Vampire Lord. So you'll probably
want to run one to two, and side-deck up to three.
Advantage F/H:
The bonus of Ryu Kokki is his
searchability. Pyramid Turtle will get him out in a
flash to lower the boom on the opponent. And if he
dies, you'll Book of Life him and wreak even more
habit. He's almost a 4 star 2400 attack monster!

8/10
Advanced--
8/10
Best Draw for the Situation:
He's not entirely
unpleasant to draw because of all the revival and
the Snatch/Change. Suffice to say, if you're running
3 Spirit Reapers and 3 Turtles, you'll find this guy
very easy to either search or summon. 2400 attack is
not bad at all. Traditional's score is lower
because Pyramid Turtles can get negated easier, more
Hand Disruption means tribute monsters are bad, and
Yata-Garasu.
Traditional--
5/10
Advanced--
7/10
Attributes/Effect:
The only important things in his
heading are 2400 attack, 2000 defense, and destroy
Warrior. The 2400 attack means he can cope with any
commonly played tribute monster save Ha Des and End
of Anubis (which makes Fiends hot btw). The 2000
defense makes him searchable by Pyramid Turtle. And
the final effect is Kokki's (and zombies') insurance
policy against anything above 2400 attack. A great
monster.
Traditional--
9/10
Advanced--
9/10
Dependability:
He either dies to a trap, dies to an
equal attack monster, or kills the only commonly
played threats able to destroy him (Black Luster
Soldier & DmoC). This makes him a stud, a very
dependable stud.
Traditional--
8.5/10
Advanced--
8.5/10
The Bottom Line:
Zombies are forced to use him, so go
ahead.
A BAD Score:

Ryu Kokki
Ryu Kokki is a relatively popular monster. ATK of
2400 puts him right at the general standard for a
one-tribute, and he has DEF just low enough to be
brought out via everyone's FAVORITE Zombie-summoning
turtle, Pyramid Turtle. His use with Book of Life is
also a big plus.
The effect is nice, but you probably won't be using
it often. Your opponent isn't very likely to have a
monster against which Ryu Kokki's effect NEEDS to be
used with 2400 ATK, he'll probably be killing most
things he battles regardless of his effect.
Nevertheless, it can be useful.
I would definitely recommend Ryu Kokki for a Zombie
Deck; he gives them a bit of raw power, more than
Vampire Lord can offer. He's also a Common, so he
shouldn't be that hard to find.
Traditional CCCC: 3/5
Traditional Zombie: 4/5
Advanced Zombie: 4.5/5
