Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke is a very nice monster in
general. His stats make him very friendly to a good
deal of decks, including Beatdown, Warrior, and
Chaos. His effect is where you need to decide if
he's worth playing or not, though.
We got two heavy-hitting warriors this set, as well
as Blade Knight very recently. With all the high
attack warriors like GAF, Blade Knight and Mystic
Swordsman LV4, is it really worth it to use this
guy? The thing that the Mystic Swordsmen have over
his effect is that more people are likely to have a
card face-down in defense position than they are in
face-up defense position. And in the case that a
High DEF monster blocks your way, Smashing Ground
burns it to death and takes out monsters with higher
attack. It has a great effect of destroying
monsters, but that's not enough to warrant the title
"STAPLE OF ALL DECKS EVER".
It's nifty to use with Stumbling and Enemy
Controller, though. I imagine that one could build
an interesting Clown Control with this, but I won't
worry about that.
3/5 Any Deck
3.4/5 Warrior Deck
It's absolute garbage in Traditional, so let's not
talk about that. |

Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke
Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke is a pretty decent monster
– a nice choice for Warrior Decks. He has 1800 ATK,
which is nice and solid (enough to take down Stealth
Bird), and he's LIGHT, making him good food for BLS
– EotB. Being a Warrior, of course, gives him quite
a bit of support.
The effect is okay. You probably won't get to use it
very often (unless you have certain cards that force
opponent's monsters into face-up DEF – Ceasefire for
face-down DEF, Curse of Anubis for face-up ATK), but
if you do get to use it, you'll be glad. It can kill
a Spirit Reaper, it can kill a face-up D.D. Warrior
Lady without letting your opponent use her effect,
and it can even kill a Labyrinth Wall. Aside from
that, it's a simple, 1800 ATK Warrior. Why not,
right?
Traditional – CCCC: 3/5
Traditional – Chaos Warrior: 3.5/5
Advanced – Chaos Warrior: 3.5/5 |

Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke
Ninjas are cool. Ninjas that are Grandmasters are
cool. And Sasuke is
cool... although I like the one from Naruto more.
Well on to the review...
Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke is a Light 4 star Warrior
with 1800 attack and 1000
defense. It's effect states thaaat if it, "attacks a
face-up Defense
Position monster, destroy the monster with this
card's effect without
applying damage calculation." Not bad. Since there
are a few mode shifting
cards out this guy can be pretty handy. Just shift
your opponent's
monster's modes and attack with this guy. His nifty
effect can get by those
pesky wabokus and hard to kill monsters. Good card,
I wouldn't recommend
using more than three though... oh that's right u
can only use three! ^_^ SO
USE THREE!!! WITH A LOT OF MODE SHIFTING CARDS!!!

Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke
Welcome to another week of SOD cards. This week
we’ll be looking at a few of the remaining played
cards from SOD. The first card this week is Ninja
Grandmaster Sasuke.
Stats: Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke has 1800 ATK and
1000 DEF, allowing you to search for it with Sangan.
The ATK is pretty good; it’s no 1900, but 1800
ATK monsters can succeed without much trouble. It’s
a LIGHT and a Warrior
monster, making it the fifth monster to meet this
classification. Why is this important? For Warrior
Decks using Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the
Beginning. Also, being a Warrior allows you to
search for it with Reinforcement of the Army. Stats
– Good.
Effect: Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke’s effect may be
familiar to you by now; it
is almost the same effect as that of the Mystic
Swordsmen and Sasuke Samurai. When Ninja Grandmaster
Sasuke attacks a face-up Defense Position monster,
destroy the monster with Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke’s
effect. The key difference with this effect and that
of the Mystic Swordsmen is the fact that the effect
works only on face-up Defense Position monsters, not
those that are face-down. The effect has
possibilities; it can get around cards
like Mystic Tomato, D.D. Warrior Lady, and Spirit
Reaper (assuming they’re
all in face-up Defense Position prior to the
beginning of the Damage Step).
The problem with the effect is this; how often will
you be able to use it?
My guess is not very often. Your opponent will
rarely have a face-up Defense
Position Monster to use the effect on. It may happen
occasionally, but don’t
get your hopes up. Effect – Adequate.
Combos: Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke combos with cards
that put your opponent’s monsters in face-up Defense
Position. You can use Ceasefire and Swords of
Reveling Light to put their face-down monsters
face-up. You can also Summon Ninja Grandmaster
Sasuke, then activate Stumbling and/or Light of
Intervention to force your opponent to summon
monsters face-up, and possibly in Defense Position.
Usability: Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke really only
works in a Warrior Deck using BLS, and which is not
using many other LIGHT Warriors like Blade Knight or
D.D. Warrior Lady.
Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke could be helpful at times,
but it will more often than not just be an 1800 ATK
monster.
Advanced Format: 3/5. With Warrior Decks being
popular and BLS not being banned (yet), Ninja
Grandmaster Sasuke could be used in a deck that
doesn't
have any Blade Knights or D.D. Warrior Ladies.
Traditional Format: 3/5. It’s really the same in
Traditional as it is in
Advanced.

Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke
This is one of the rares people immediately throw in
their junk binder when they pull it from the SOD
boosters hoping for a precious Horus 8 Ultimate.
Should it be thrown in there, or should it be
considered? Let's look closer.
This card is similar to Sasuke Samurai and Mystic
Sword-Boy Lv. 2/4 in that they get rid of Defense
position monsters. But this guy gets rid of FACE-UP
Defense position monsters instead of face-down. In
return for this handicap (and that's being kind), it
gets 1,800 Attack.
*Pros:
Light -- Chaos food, and with Chaos Sorcerer use on
the rise in Advanced that's a plus
1,800 ATK -- isn't used JUST to kill defenders, it
just ends up getting that as a bonus
Warrior -- That lets it get searched by
Reinforcements of the Army
*Cons:
1,800 ATK -- I know I listed this as a pro, but this
weakens it to Messenger of Peace
4 stars -- G-Bind and Level Limit stop this card
from its intended use; getting rid of monster
stallers
The BIG problem is that it only nixes the face-ups
-- the Stealth Bird flipping itself every turn won't
be affected, and other big defenders would be better
plowed through with other Warriors or warrior
effects that work in more situations (DDWL, Exiled)
Traditional: 1.75/5
Advanced: 1.75/5 (We have a lot of other Warriors
that can do this card's job better.) |

Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke...the strongest Ninja to be
released so far at a whopping 1800 ATK! ;)
In traditional, this card may see some play...it
depends on the tournament environment around people.
Frankly, I think this card's a great combo with
things like Gravity Release and Windstorm of Etaqua.
In advanced, it's an 1800 ATK warrior that can kill
monsters outside of battle, and it's a light type.
It's got some real playability right now.
In limited, if you see this thing, draft it. Sasuke
is a first turn pick, as its ability kills just
about any defensive card from Soul of the Duelist.
This card wins people sealed tournaments.
Traditional Format: 2.5/5
Advanced Format: 3.5/5
Limited: 5/5 |

AHHHH, Regionals is over! I can go back to living my
normal College life now! kek e...How'd I do? Like I
always do, Top 25 but not quite top 8. I swear I've
been in that situation more than any other player in
the History of this game...lol. Congrats to my
friend Chase for being 1st through the first 8
rounds. I couldn't stay for the top 8 but I hope he
did well. I'll be writing a Regionals Review article
soon. I know I know, I've been delaying it for so
long but It's partly due to my own confusion about
the Metagame but I think I have a clear
understanding of it now. Well onto the COTD article
^^
Despite what people may think, I believe this card
MIGHT be better than Blade Knight. LOL I must be
crazy right? I mean I'm comparing a 1600-2000 attack
monster to a 1800 guy with a situational effect.
*shrugs*
I think I've used Blade Knight's 2000 effect about
once in a blue moon. LOL .. The more I think about
that card the crazier I get. So without playtesting
this card, I think it wouldn't be that bad. Combo
with ceasefire (although that kinda ruins why u play
ceasefire anyways) or you could use cards like zero
gravity. haha, a fun deck if you guys wanna try out.
Run Dream Clown and Zero Gravity with Ninja
Grandmaster Sasuke. Don't ask how this deck will win
because it's a fun deck...something from the top of
my head.
Ahhh, who am I kidding...During top decking time,
Blade Knight is one of the best cards. It just never
gets to that point in this format. We always have a
hand and we are NEVER top decking. So maybe my first
gut reaction is correct? who knows...I think It's
worth playing 1 of this card and 1 Blade Knight if
you wanted to run Warrior/Chaos.

Monday: Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke.
Rated For: Ninja Deck, Forced Defense Assault Deck
This is another week of Soul of Duelist; today
brings us yet another cool ninja to add to the ninja
deck, Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke.
Unfortunately, the ninja deck has not been fleshed
out yet enough to give rise to one of the coolest
archetypes ever; this review will focus on Sasuke’s
use in his own deck. It’s a deck I like to call the
Forced Defense Assault Deck, where you force your
opponent’s monsters into defense position, then
assault them with this card.
Yes, yes, I realize it’s not a very effective deck
type; bear with me here.
Advantage F/H:
An 1800 monster will provide a solid
semblance of advantage. He’ll go toe to toe with
Tribe, D.D Warrior Lady, Spent Breaker, Kycoo the
Ghost Destroyer, and others. Since the championship
format forces themed decks anyways, you might have
trouble with themed 1900/2000 monsters such as Slate
Warrior (fiends), Skilled Dark Magician (spellcasters),
Berserk Gorilla (beasts), and such. His second
effect will hardly change his advantage rating, so
its basically a subpar score for him.
6/10.
Best Draw for the Situation:
An 1800 monster is pretty
vanilla; it’ll help in most cases, but not as much
as more specialized weapons. However, keep in mind
that there are certain cards (Zero Gravity,
Earthquake, Enemy Controller to name a few) that
will help him destroy literally any card in the
game. In such a deck, this guy morphs from a
semi-decent draw to a….. decent draw.
7/10.
Attributes/Effect:
Great stats, but a rather puny effect
only raises him a point or so.
6/10.
Dependability:
He’s going to need a lot of other
cards to function, but most of the cards such as
Zero Gravity and Enemy Controller are excellent in
their own right; chances are, you’ll pull this guy’s
effect off to great advantage in key situations (if
you’re lucky, that is.)
7/10.
The Bottom Line:
He’s just a touch below “solid.”
A BAD Score: 26/40= 65/100
Cards it functions well with:
Enemy Controller, Zero Gravity,
Earthquake, Ninjitsu Art of Decoy, Ninjitsu Art of
Transformation. |

Stats :
Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke is a Level 4
Light/Warrior… Revive the orbs! No, I
don’t get tired of that joke. I do wonder how
he upgraded from “Thief” at only Level 4…
getting the Rat’s Tail to Bahumut at that low a
level ranges from insane to impossible: how can
you defeat the necessary bosses without
automatically leveling up past four?
…
Okay, okay, enough with the bad jokes. C’mon
though: the FF1/FF2 re-release for the GBA is
coming out soon! Oh, the anticipation! As for
the actual card, being a Level 4 is pretty good:
no extra Summoning requirements. You can just
drop him into play as your Normal Summon for the
turn. Light Monsters are useful for Chaos Food…
especially Warrior ones since Warrior Chaos
seems to be one of the top decks of Advanced.
Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke has a solid 1800
ATK and a DEF of 1000. He also has an effect.
Effect(s) :
When Sasuke attacks a face-up DEF position
Monster, you skip the damage step and just kill
it. Hmmm… wouldn’t it make more sense for a
ninja to nuke the supposedly hidden Set Monsters
and the samurai to honorably dispatch the
face-up ones? ;) Anyway, the effect can be
pretty spiffy, since there are actually several
commonly played cards that won’t like this.
First, D.D. Warrior Lady-the way this is
worded, I am pretty sure she can’t use her
effect. Second, the still legal searchers like
Mystic Tomato and Pyramid Turtle
won’t trigger. Third, Spirit Reaper,
that great generic stall that forces the
opponent to burn removal or a targeting effect
on it, also bites the dust if it is already face
up. Not great, but not bad.
Uses and Combinations :
Of the other eight Light/Warriors, there is one
Level 3 (Sasuke Samurai #3) and three
other Level 4s (D.D. Warrior Lady,
Blade Knight, and Freed the Brave
Wanderer). D.D. Warrior lady will usually
remove herself from play, meaning she isn’t
going to be Chaos Food a lot of the time. Blade
Knight is the next most useful of the Warriors,
but you won’t get his effect often (from what I
have seen). So that really leaves just Sasuke
Samurai #3, whose effect will often backfire,
and Freed the Brave Wanderer, who’s effect will
not only rarely go off, but which also makes it
harder to Summon BLS! When you look at that,
you realize that hey, maybe one or two should be
worked in, and three might not be bad either.
Now, if you want, you can even make use of
several cards to get a lot out of
Sasuke’s effect.
Ceasefire and Swords of Revealing Light
are pretty common. Warrior Chaos might benefit
from Light of Intervention anyway, since
it would make it easier to choose whether to
remove or attack. I hate to admit it, but I
have been playing someone with some rather
eclectic tastes in cards, and she has convinced
me that Windstorm of
Etaqua is useful for
Advanced decks,
especially those that excel at swarming and/or
trampling.
Ratings
Traditional :
2/5-That might seem high for this format,
considering I didn’t really mention it at all in
the review. Simply put, a Level 4 1800 Light
beatstick can be
useful… or it could be dead weight.
Advanced :
3.5/5-It might even rival Blade Knight if rumors
are true… at the very least, it can be used in a
fun and interesting deck regardless.
Limited :
4/5-Logically, it should be pretty useful here:
a Level 4, 1800 ATK
beatstick is nice, and one with an effect
that ruins the traditional stall-for-Tribute
technique is even better.
Summary
Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke
is something of a niche card for two very solid
decks: Warrior and Warrior Chaos. It may even
warrant some slight strategy adjustments you
might even be pleasantly surprised how potent it
can be.
