Tuesday: Drain Shield
Rated For: Any Deck
Tuesday’s offering is Drain Shield, the direct
opposite of Magic Cylinder. This too, will negate
your opponent’s attack, but this time it increases
your life points (a la Enchanted Javelin).
Of
course, life point gain is something that is
rightfully ridiculed by top Yu-Gi-Oh players;
concepts such as field control and card advantage
are far more important than having a high amount of
life points.
Regardless, we’ll review Drain Shield’s merits.
Note: I forgot to mention this on Monday, but with
the ban/restricted list being a certainty, all my
reviews are now tailored towards a post-ban
environment.

On
to the review!
Advantage F/H:
An advantage of 1500-2000 life points
for a card isn’t very great. In fact, it’s rather
insubstantial. I would give this card a 2.5/10
for such measly gains.
Best Draw for the Situation:
I don’t think that Drain Shield
will have any effect on the outcome of the duel.
Life point gain simply isn’t a very good method of
achieving aims. I can’t even really see any
situations where this card would be remotely useful,
let alone game-breaking.
2.5/10.
Attributes/Effect:
Life point gain is horrible! The
negating attack portion of this card helps slightly,
but everything else is garbage. It should have added
life points equal to the doubled attack of the
enemy…
2.5/10.
Dependability:
The new baseline score for traps
under the system is a 7/10 (instead of 5/10).
That’s because the 2 MST’s and Harpie’s Feather
Duster will probably be replaced by Jinzo and 2 Dust
Tornado’s, making traps last a bit longer. Having
said that, this card is so horrible that depending
on it will get you nowhere.
5/10.
The Bottom Line:
Life point gain is horrible! Magic Cylinder is a far
better card. I suppose it’s best use is in a Agent
of Judgment- Saturn deck, but I feel that Mystic Wok
is superior to that.
A BAD Score:
12.5/40= 31/100
Cards it functions well with:
Magic Drain (to protect it),
Mystic Wok (for lp gain). |
