APRIL FOOLS! if you actually believed me
and thought we were reviewing a playable
card today.
Mammoth is a card that basically puts
the opponent under what Magic termed
"Summoning Sickness". Once this card's
out, the opponent has to wait a turn
before attacking with anything they
summon. This helps against a few things
-- Mobius and Jinzo, namely. The
problem is with the rest of the cards
that see play that are over 2,000 ATK --
BLS removes it, Chaos Sorcerer removes
it, Zaborg kills it with its effect,
DMoC comes into play and gets back a
Spell that can destroy it...
Basically this card gives a false sense
of security to its user. It's supposed
to protect them but doesn't 90% of the
time.
If you're looking for a 2000 ATK Tribute
monster, go play Vampire Lord -- since
today's the new ban list rotation, you
can use two of him now. And he DOESN'T
suck.

Big
Tusked Mammoth has little or no potential to speak
of. It's a 1-sided Field of Bitter Souls that has
crappy ATK, though the DEF is nice for a 1-trib. I
suppose it could help against a few decks, but most
decks are running monsters with 2000 ATK or above
that can easily suicide against this, and it has
little to no return. Can't protect itself from
removal and an effect that isn't really all that
good = bad Tribute.
Once again, my review lacks general quality. How
sad.
On the upswing, there's a Shonen Jump tomorrow that
I am privileged enough to attend. Horjay.
General:
1.4/5 Traditional
2/5 Advanced (note: I am no longer rating for the
first Advanced format. I rate only for the second
Advanced format now.)

Big-Tusked Mammoth
Big-Tusked Mammoth is an interesting monster. With
only 2000 ATK and requiring a Tribute, he’s rather
weak, but he has an effect that can definitely
compensate for the relatively low ATK value.
Opposing monsters can no longer attack the turn
they’re summoned.
So if your opponent summons something strong, he
won’t be able to kill your Mammoth for a turn, a
turn that gives you some time to deal with whatever
he just brought to the field. Swarm of Scarabs works
nicely.
I can envision this guy working very well in a deck
with Anti-Spell Fragrance that utilizes Swarms of
Scarabs and Locusts; you’d essentially lock your
opponent out of monsters and Spells. A few
all-purpose negation Traps like Divine Wrath and/or
Solemn Judgment would secure your little lock, and
you’d be free to go. Might be worth trying. On
another note, this is my first rating with the new
bans in mind, since they’re now in effect!
Traditional – CCCC: 2.5/5
Traditional – Lockdown: 4/5
Advanced – CCWC: 3/5
Advanced – Lockdown: 4.5/5
OVERALL RATING: 3.5/5

Big-Tusked Mammoth
Is your nose running? Because if it is you better
call a doctor!… Because it’s flu season and… and you
could get sick… So, I’m not great with jokes; it’s
April Fool’s Day! You need to at least TRY and get
some chuckles.
Anyway, the last card of Big Week is Big-Tusked
Mammoth, a monster I think would have been more
appropriate as a Dinosaur…
Mammoth has “meh” stats; 2000 ATK allows it to
defend against almost every single Level 4 or lower
monster, but makes it an easy target for Level 5 or
higher monsters. It’s also a Beast, allowing it to
get an extra attack with Beast Soul Swap and/or a
trample ability when Enraged Battle Ox is on the
field, two abilities Mammoth could use due to its
low ATK.
While Mammoth is on the field, any monster the
opponent summons can’t attack during that turn. It’s
a simple and surprisingly useful effect that gives
you a chance to put into play the proper defenses
for the attack of a specific monster. If your
opponent summons a Jinzo, that Sakuretsu Armor won’t
do you any good. Yet thanks to Mammoth you will have
a chance to use that Snatch Steal of yours before
Jinzo can do you any damage. They summoned a D. D?
Well Set your Mirror Force and watch the fireworks.
All in all, Mammoth should be your top choice in a
Beast Deck on a budget. That’s it for this
installment of CotD. I’ll see you all in two weeks,
which in reality will be yesterday!
Advanced: 4/5. Your opponent may destroy it before
Mammoth can stop them from doing anything, so have a
backup plan.
Traditional: 4/5. See Advanced.
Overall: 4/5.
Art: 4.5/5. I really like this picture, with the
exception of the purple…

Well, Friday brings us another Reviewer's Choice,
desptite the fact some of us are getting annoyed
with them. However, Snapper who picked this week
said to hell with them and here we are.
Happy Friday, and April Fool's Day to you all.
For this Reviewr's Choice, I believe I'll reveiew...
Big Tusk Mammoth
Well, simply put, this guy is a monster with a built
in Vengeful Bog Spirit.
For those of you who don't know, Vengeful Bog Spirit
forces all monsters to wait one turn to attack after
their summoned. This guy does the same thing.
Don't get me wrong, the effect is decent, but by no
means is it game breaking...Honestly, I don't even
really see a point for this guy in a stall deck.
Maybe in a low-budget desparate burn deck or
something. Plus, he's only got 2000 attack points
and he requires a tribute.
However, going back to the Vengeful Bog Spirit
thing, on the good side, it is only for your
OPPONENT, so you can pummel his monsters as he sits
their helplessly and has no choice but to watch
because he can't attack you.
Though, more on the bad side, since he only has 2000
attack, he won't be that hard to kill.
Conclusion: He, along with most else this week,
isn't worth it.
Ratings:
Traditional: 1.9/5 Can't quite give him a 2, sorry.
Advanced: 2.4/5 Not quite average
Limited: 2.1/5 He's not that great here, either.
By the way, you may notice several other reviewers
chose this card for today
:)
You stay classy, Planet Earth :)
