UFO
Turtle
This week we review cards we haven’t reviewed yet.
The first of these cards is UFO Turtle, a rentsy
little elemental searcher who would probably best be
used in a FIRE Deck of some sort.
With 1400 ATK and 1200 DEF, he isn’t exactly
powerful for a Level 4 monster; but his effect
allows you to summon into Attack Position, from your
Deck, a FIRE monster with 1500 ATK or less whenever
he’s destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard.
He’s the Mystic Tomato of FIRE monsters.
The thing about FIRE monsters is that generally,
there aren’t as many of them used in typical decks
as DARKs or EARTHs or LIGHTs or whatever; but that
doesn’t mean UFO Turtle can’t search out useful
stuff. In a Pyro Deck, for example, he can bring out
both Ultimate Baseball Kid and Solar Flare Dragon,
both great assets. He can also help (sort of) in
Warrior Decks, what with his ability to summon
Command Knight. And I’m sure there’s more I’m just
not thinking of at the moment.
Either way, this card is great in FIRE Decks and
more or less worthless anywhere else. So keep that
in mind.
And now it’s time for me to redifine my rating
system. I’ve concluded that I just plain don’t care
about Traditional Format anymore – I’m dropping
those ratings. And the ubiquitous deck is no longer
Cookie Cutter Warrior Chaos; it’s now become Cookie
Cutter Goat Control…with Chaos.

UFO
Turtle
Self-replacing monsters are good. We've known this
for a long time; Shining Angels and Mystic Tomatoes
in the standard Chaos deck, Apprentice Magicians
becoming quite popular to fetch Magician of Faiths
face-down...but these have two different reasonings
behind them. Angels and Tomatoes were generally
played based on still having a monster but more
importantly getting that Light or Dark in the
Graveyard. Apprentices were played based on the
monster you're hoping to get (MoF).
Since there's no Fire Luster Soldier -- Envoy of the
Inferno, we're playing UFO Turtle based on what's
coming out with it. And fortunately, there are very
good monsters that can come out with this overlooked
little searcher.
Command Knight -- playing UFO Turtle in a Warrior
deck to get out Command Knight is much like Jae's
adaption of Giant Rat to fetch Pyramid Turtle. Since
Command self-boosts, it's like getting around the
1500 rule ever so slightly. An opponent who had a
1600 attacker (a spent Breaker, a Tribe, an
unpowered Blade Knight) ready to hit UFO's
replacement will be in for a bit of a suprise.
Masked Dragon -- even more strictly adhering to the
"searching a searcher" thing Jae started, you could
possibly see this guy thrown (2 of him) in a dragon
deck needing extra field presence.
Raging Flame Sprite / Solar Flare Dragon -- then we
have the reason most people that play UFO do so, the
burners. Solar Flare with his 500 per opponent's
turn, and Flame Sprite with his low-level direct
attacking.
Burn decks most likely already run it; but if you're
playing a Warrior deck or a Dragon deck that needs
some extra monsters on the field, this wouldn't be a
bad idea.

UFO Turtle
Well, as of now, there's not really any good
FIRE-type monsters to search out. Back in the day,
you could go get a Fire Princess, but she'd get
raped in the current format. ...Wow, that was kinda
bad but whatever.
Unless a new FIRE-type monster comes out soon, you
probably won't be seeing this monster in tournament
play. Like...what would you get anyways, a Blast
Magician? @#$% that.
Rating: 1/5, but could potentially become 5/5 if
some insane, small Fire monster comes out soon? Yeah
maybe? Um shrug, ionno. |

This week is vastly unimportant, and so is this
card. In the grand scale of things, the whole of the
human race is unimportant (well, we're important to
us). But that is entering into realms of philosophy
I will leave for Junior College. Instead, some
announcements:
I have sent in CotD's for Thursday and Friday last
week. For those of you who want to read my mindless
blithering and blabbering, today is your lucky day.
For those of you who don't, well, a pox upon you.
And since someone expressed interest in last
Monday's CotD, here is what I promised to put in my
CotD on Thursday before I got lazy after losing a
file again (I HATE IBM PCs. Okay? Okay.) entirely
out of context with the rest of the review (and in
quotation marks, too!)
"Someone expressed interest in understanding what
the long, long abbreviation of Monday's review was.
The point was that you weren't supposed to
understand it. Those who did (and I imagine there
are VERY few of them) got a decent chuckle out of
it.
Here, however, is what it was;
Oh My Gosh! Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity
(discarding Sinister Serpent and Dark Magician of
Chaos), Delinquent Duo, Thunder Dragon (searching
out two more from my deck and adding them to my
hand), Premature Burial on Dark Magician of Chaos
(retrieving Delinquent Duo by his effect),
Delinquent Duo, Card Destruction, and activate Deck
Devastation Virus on your draw. You lose the match
2-0. Good Game, no rematch.
I obviously missed a few things, such as having 2
Night Assailants in my hand before activating Card
Destruction, and setting a Drop Off. But overall,
I'd say that it was a bit of a success in that it
was a really complex first turn that would make any
good player scoop in a heartbeat. But until you've
actually felt the glory of
PoG-GC(ss+dmoc)-DD-TD-PB(dmoc(dd))-DD-CD-DDV 2-0
ggnore, there is no point in understanding the
abbreviation. On to the review."
Yes, on to the review:
Um... Use it in FIRE decks?

UFO
Turtle
Well we've got a rather odd assortment of cards for
you this week, cards that really have nothing in
common and get progressively less usable as the week
goes on. Today's card is UFO Turtle, a monster I
myself have found a use for, which makes me happy on
the inside.
UT is for all intents and purposes a FIRE version of
Mystic Tomato; 1400 ATK, Machine, works with Limiter
Removal, etc. When it's destroyed as a result of
battle and goes to the Graveyard, you can Special
Summon a FIRE monster with 1500 ATK or less from
your Deck in Attack Position. So, yeah, you've seen
it before in the form of some creepy fruit that is
considerably more popular.
The reasons behind UT's rare usage are obvious;
there are about five monsters you may want to summon
through its effect. Wanna know what they are? Well
you’ve got Blast Magician, Command Knight, Fire
Princess, Raging Flame Sprite, Solar Flare Dragon,
another UFO Turtle, Ultimate Baseball Kid, and of
course the few monsters that are slightly useful in
only a FIRE Deck.
While UT does have a lucky amount of monsters to
summon, the monsters are unlikely to ever be used
together, making UT a faded light in the vast
universe of better options for Special Summons.
As an elemental searcher, UT has one useful combo:
Creature Swap. Creature Swap UT to your opponent,
hopefully get a stronger monster, attack your
swapped UT, and you get to summon a "tech" FIRE
monster from your Deck. On the whole, UT comes in
fifth in elemental searcher ranking, being only
usable in two Deck-Types: FIRE (duh) and Element
(Element Dragon, Element Saurus, etc.)
A quick note on that last Deck: it is where I have
found a use for this space ship/tortoise hybrid.
FIRE reaping the most benefits to an "Element"
monster, UT allows some of the monsters to safely
maintain 2000 ATK for a few extra turns by summoning
other FIRE monsters when it dies. Just thought I'd
point this out for those of you who have longed to
netdeck me. ;)
Advanced (FIRE Deck): 3.5/5. It still doesn’t do you
a lot of good… Traditional (FIRE Deck): 3/5. What
monsters are destroyed in battle in Traditional?
Overall (FIRE Deck): 3.25/5.
Art: 4.5/5. I for some reason favor UT's artwork
above those of all other elemental searchers…

Happy August everyone for all of you who may care
for whatever miscellaneous reason. Anyway, this week
was chosen by fans I'm told and we've also never
reviewed any of these cards I guess.
Today brings us the terrifying UFO Turtle.
So, here we have the searcher for FIRE Attribute
monsters. Turtle goes to the graveyard, you can
special summon a FIRE monster with 1500 attack
points or less from your deck to the field in ATTACK
posistion.
Neat huh? I suppose you could fetch a Solar Flare
Dragon with this guy or something if you really
wanted. Also, in my personal experience, this is the
LEAST used of the Elemental searchers...(well, maybe
Flying Kamatiri #1).
Anyway, if you have room in your FIRE deck and
really need one, go ahead and try it out.
Rating:
2.0/5 Across the board in FIRE decks only
Art: 3.0/5 It's pretty cool
You stay classy, Planet Earth :) |
