Star Boy

Read my Bladefly review, take out “Bladefly” and “WIND,” substitute “Star Boy” and “WATER,” and you have the gist of what I’ll now attempt to say in as few words as possible.

Star Boy’s by no means a bad monster; I’d go so far as to say he’s quite a bit better than Bladefly. WATER Decks have a larger assortment of monsters for Star Boy to boost than WIND Decks have for Bladefly, and even cookie cutters run Tribe-Infecting Virus and sometimes Mobius (…and Sinister Serpent), meaning Star Boy at least has the chance to boost something (though I’d still say you’re insane for running him in Goat Control).

He’s by no means a WATER necessity, but he might do quite well there, especially if you’re running Mother Grizzly.

CCGCC: 1.5/5
WATER Deck: 3.5/5
OVERALL RATING: 2.5/5

ExMinion OfDarkness
Star Boy

Basically, cut and paste my review from Wednesday on Bladefly here, replacing "Wind" and "Earth" with "Water" and "Fire".

Water doesn't NEED any more attack boosts, given that it already has A Legendary Ocean giving +200 and Nightmare Penguin also giving +200 after it's been flipped and has bounced something.

A Water deck doesn't need to lower Fire monster ATK values, since (1) NO ONE plays Fire, and (2) the only time you'll ever SEE more than 1 Fire monster is in a Burn deck, and if you're playing against a Burn, you're not going to be able to attack anyway due to their G-Binds and LLABs (except for your 4-star monsters that are now 3-star because of A Legendary Ocean.)

1/5 all

Coin Flip
Remember kiddies, if you're reading my opinion and are offended by it, then you need to remember that you aren't me (unless you trying to be, and then you're really, really creepy). So if you don't agree with me, GREAT! I enjoy laughing at- I mean, I enjoy diversity.

Um, don't use this card. I mean... Actually, this one fits more than Bladefly does. Bladefly is just boosting cards that are already 1900's. I mean, think about it. How many 1900's are there? There are 3 for EARTH (Toon and normal Gemini Elf, Insect Knight), 0 for FIRE, 0 for WATER, 3 for DARK (Skilled Dark Magician, Mad Dog Of Darkness, and Archfiend Soldier. Note that Breaker so rarely keeps his token when battle comes around, I no longer count him as a 1900), 0 for LIGHT, and 3 for WIND (Spear Dragon, Slate Warrior, and Luster Dragon). I think they have enough beatdown power as it is.

I don't think this is really necessary for WATER decks. But hey, it wouldn't fit anywhere else. No rating.
Snapper Star Boy

Our final card this week Star Boy, a card that is like, so similar to Wednesday's card that I'm going to pull a copy, paste, and edit of Wednesday's review.

What can be said about SB that isn't "ewww"? The stats aren't good, and its effect (which ups WATER monster's ATK by 500 and downs FIRE monster's ATK by
400) is not incredibly useful. After all, the effect only makes SB a 1050 ATK monster, an amount that won't do you a lot of good other than annoy the opponent with remembering they lost 50 Life Points when SB miraculously damages them. And the effect that weakens FIRE monsters isn't incredibly useful either (who uses FIRE monster [competitively]?).

But the thing that really murders SB with a 100% chance of clouds is the fact that A Legendary Ocean and Nightmare Penguin are SO much more useful to WATER Decks. Sure they don't increase ATK by as much, but they're helluva lot more useful. Overall, SB is an excellent representation of a monster that COULD have been, but a lack of natural strength and monsters to work with make it a terrible monster.

Advanced: 1/5. Maybe someday it will find a use…

For anything on today's card, please check my review for Wednesday of Bladefly on I have nothing new to say, and my thoughts haven't changed.

1/5 across the board (still generous)

*Takes a dump on Star Boy*

Rating: 1/5.

Don't look at me, thinking: "Omg, is that all he's writing for the review on this faaaaabulous card, Star Boy? Like, he didn't even mention the power boost needed to give Water-type monsters the edge they need in fabulous, snuggly combat. Oh well, time to feed my cats."

-.-;;

Otaku

This will be a shorter review because of the similarities between this and Bladefly, which we covered (I forgot to send it in on time, but it’s up now) earlier in the week.

Star Boy, like Bladefly, is just too small to take care of itself, and again there is an easily searchable Monster that just works better Nightmare Penguin, who is also a Water/Aqua Monster.  Nightmare Penguin doesn’t drop Fire Monster’s ATK scores, but that’s okay: that Attribute isn’t too heavily used outside of a few key Monsters that are often off-type in their own decks (Command Knight) or rogue decks (and mostly burn at that).  Nightmare Penguin may not give a 500 ATK boost, but the 200 it does add is still enough for an edge… especially when you consider that it lets you return a Monster to its owner’s hand when it is flipped face up.  Better yet, even though Nightmare Penguin behaves like a Flip Effect Monster, it isn’t one, so Nobleman of Crossout won’t remove all of them.  The icing on the cake is that if you needed to, you could summon Nightmare Penguin from the deck via Mother Grizzly and forgo the chance at a the bounce portion of the effect, it still has a higher ATK/DEF than Star Boy.

Star Boy is small enough to slip under Gravity Bind and Level Limit-Area B… but with the copy of A Legendary Ocean that is sure to be in play, so would Nightmare Penguin, who would also be boosted to a 2000 DEF wall by A Legendary Ocean.  If you absolutely had to, for some reason, you could even flip Nightmare Penguin up to use the bounce effect, and then drop Level Limit-Area B to force it into DEF mode.

Ratings

Traditional       : 1/5-Just like Bladefly, Star Boy is not only shown up by a better option here, but the deck it’d be in isn’t even that great.

Advanced        : 1/5-Water decks of varying kinds see play here… and pretty much all I can think of would rather have Nightmare Penguin in them.

Limited            : 3/5-This assumes you pull most if not all the commons that are Water Monsters with decent stats to go with it.  7 Colored Fish was in Metal Raiders.  If you get really lucky, you might get Suijin as well.  Yes, this is better than Bladefly, who didn’t have the potential of boosting a Level 4, 1800 ATK common (Harpie’s Brother came later)
