Drillroid
Drillroid is an interesting monster with an effect
similar-to-but-different-than one that’s been seen
quite a bit.
1600 ATK isn’t great but it isn’t terrible. Being
EARTH and Machine he does fit well into both EARTH
Decks and Machine Decks (…obviously) and his effect
ensures that with the right cards, you’re more or
less guaranteed to be able to take out your
opponent’s monsters, however powerful they may be.
Drillroid would work exceedingly well in a deck
(Machine, EARTH or not) making use of Enemy
Controllers and Books of Moon, as they would
essentially let him destroy anything, be it in
face-up DEF or face-down DEF.
It’s important to note that unlike Sasuke Samurai,
Drillroid will destroy face-down DEF monsters AFTER
flipping them face-up, so monsters with Flip Effects
will still have those effects activate. That’s a
downside.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Machine Trample Deck,
but I see no reason a Machine Deck can’t toss in a
few Books of Moon or Enemy Controllers and let
Drillroid loose.

Drillroid
For once, we get to review a card that's BETTER than
the previous cards that do the same thing, unlike
the other 99% of the time, where it's worse.
This card has a few good things going for it, and a
few things that hurt its playability.
Pros:
*1600 ATK -- highest attack score of a monster with
this type of effect, beating out Mystic Swordsman Lv.
2 by a whopping 700 points.
*Machine -- Limiter Removal for when it goes on the
offensive, and the 1600 lets it survive BLS if you
use it on their turn.
*Works against either face-up OR face-down
defenders. However, he doesn't negate flips...but
still good against Burns or cautiously-summoned
BLS's.
Cons:
*1600 ATK -- yes, this is ALSO a con. This lets
Messenger of Peace stop it from doing its job where
it'd get the effect the most -- agianst a Burn deck.
*Level 4 -- also a con, for the same reason as
listed above, except with Gravity Bind and Level
Limit.
But really, a good burn side-deck has the Mystic 2's
side-decked already, if not other anti-burners.
That, and you DO already have two Nobleman of
Crossout at your disposal if you happen to be
playing a cookie-cutter deck. I'd say this a solid
add-in for a pure Machine deck needing one or two
more monsters.

Drillroid
Definitely one of the better commons to come out of
CRV, Drillroid is almost the perfect dream
combination of Mystic Swordsman LV2 and Grandmaster
Sasuke. The only exception is that Flip Effects
aren't negated; otherwise this card would almost be
a staple.
Solid stats makes it able to hold its own for the
most part, while on the downside there's no viable
way to search out Drillroid. Combined with cards
like Enemy Controller and Book of Moon, Drillroid
can take out virtually any monster.
Most first-turn moves include a set monster, so
starting off with a Drillroid right off the bat
could throw off your opponent's game or strategy.
Keep up the support and it could really cause some
damage.
And once CRV is legal in major tournaments, perhaps
summoning BLS in Defense mode won't be the smartest
idea after all.
And of course, if you're a Limiter Removal whore,
here's one other monster you can make use of.
Rating: 3.8/5. I didn't want to rate it higher than
Cyber Dragon ;P.

Coin Flip |
What can I say? Drillroid is good. He's sexy, in a
cartoonish and strange sort of way. EARTH is not the
favorite subtype of most, and Machines is awkward.
This card is just strong enough that using Limiter
would be a waste, but just weak enough that it's not
likely to live through an attack if you don't have a
Limiter. While 1600/1600 is solid indeed, it might
have been better for it to subtract 100 ATK/DEF to
make it searchable by Sangan.
Now, getting past the superficial stuff, I leave you
another superficial comment. This thing destroys a
lot. I mean, the problem with Sasuke Samurai and
Mystic Swordsman LV2 is that they're both really
weak. Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke... Well, he is just
special, now isn't he? I mean, face-up defense is a
fairly rare position, but this fellow couldn't give
less of his attention to their face position. If
it's a Magician of Faith waiting for the moment to
strike, he'll kill it. If it's an annoying Spirit
Reaper that is just LINGERING on the field, he'll
kill it.
The reason, I suspect, that we won't be seeing too
much of this guy in the higher level play is that we
rarely wanted to play Mystic Swordsman or Ninja
Grandmaster Sasuke maindecked. But Mystic Swordsman
LV2 got past all sorts of stall, whereas Drillroid
bends over to all three. Sasuke was unlikely to die
(well, Tsukuyomi notwithstanding), but this guy just
loves to die. He does it professionally, actually.
Keep in mind that this is not to say he is a good
card. You might even be able to build a deck all
around him and some of the other DEF mode
destroyers, with like Stumbling and 3 Enemy
Controller and 3 Book of Moon.
...Yeah. =\ That is a horrible idea and never ever
do it. That may have even more bad topdecks than a
Des Lacooda deck.
Again, I've dropped Traditional because I aim my
reviews (mostly) at people trying to go pro, and if
you're going pro, you never play Traditional because
there aren't any Regionals in Traditional.

Machine (advanced): 3.5/5

Drillroid
Today’s card is Drillroid, a monster that turns out
to not be useful as translations once suggested, but
still proves to be a very handy addition to some
Decks.
Most people will tell you that Drillroid’s 1600 ATK
is a con due to the large amounts of 1900 ATK
monsters that everyone uses. These same people
however are those who conform to the current
consciousness, and don’t run much of anything that
could beat Drillroid. We call theses people
hypocrites. Anywho, 1600 ATK is somewhat of a
blessing in today’s Meta, and can only be
consistently defeated by D. D. Assailants. It’s a
Machine, which lets it fit into the only Deck
Drillroid will be used in: Machine Decks.
Drillroid’s effect is an interesting one, and one
that is somewhat of a hybrid between two of the more
versatile Warriors. When Drillroid attacks a Defense
Position monster, the monster is destroyed with
Drillroid’s effect, and damage calculation never
happens. So what does this mean? You can freely
attack D. D.s and never worry about their removal
effects. You can attack a Tsukuyomid BLS, and
overlook the glaring fact that it has 2500 DEF,
'cause it’ll die anyway!
It also means you never need to worry about the rare
instance in which you attack a face-down Flip Effect
monster that exceeds 1600 DEF. While attacking it
WON’T prevent its Flip Effect from activating, you
will get rid of it, and technically not do battle.
This is however the main reason Drillroid will be
overlooked.
Because it does nothing for stopping Flip Effects,
people will for some reason prefer using the
stupidly weak Mystic Swordsman LV2. I personally
don’t know why as Magician of Faiths shouldn’t
really aren’t that big of a "threat", but if you’re
so convinced that luck and the Holy Trinity are the
sole reason someone acquires victory, then I suppose
I can see your warped and idiotic reason for using
MS LV2 as opposed to the awesomeness that is
Drillroid.
Overall, Drillroid is an excellent monster that
becomes much more useful with the increased play in
Book of Moon and Tsukuyomi. Throw in the fact that
it counters elemental searchers, members of
different dimensions, Spirit Reapers, and other CC
cards that I can’t think of right now, and you have
a card that should be Side Decked at the very least.
But that probably won’t happen. And it’ll only be
used in Machine Decks on a regular basis.
And this won’t change unless people no longer have a
reason to only use LIGHTs or DARKs whenever the
newest Ban List comes out.
Advanced: 4/5. Oh yeah, Scapegoats! It kills
Scapegoats! But then, lots of things kill
Scapegoats…
Traditional: 4/5. Erm…
Overall: 4/5.
Art: 3/5. It looks like a Digimon…

Ahoy Drilloid. You have a nifty effect that gives
machine monsters solid removal. Oh wait, you don’t
negate flip effects? Oh wait. You can’t be fetched
by any tutors available? Oh wait. You can’t get
under any stall cards?
I think you see where I’m going with this. It’s
incredibly average, and possibly even below average.
This card does nothing to change any tier 1 OR tier
2 decks, so why bother with it?
It’s a semi-solid monster in limited, however. If
you see nothing else that’s worth drafting, go ahead
and take it. However, there are better cards out
there.

Today's card is Drillroid, a monster with a
hillarious name, although I'm not really sure why.
Drillroid has 1600 attack (and defense for that
matter) which are both pretty craptacular. He's also
an Earth type which doesn't help too much and we all
know the perks of Machinery.
So, Drillroid, in short, can attack any defense
posistion monster, the monster is destroyed and
Drillroid takes no damage...AT ALL. There really
isn't a place for this card, though I'm sure you
could build a deck around it if you wanted.
Throws in some Drillroids and other cards to keep
your opponents monsters in Defense Posistion...Block
Attack, Curse of Anubis even...
I'm going to give this card a 2.8/5 on accounts of
it isn't terrible and it can do something. I believe
it's just one of those cards that falls JUST short
of being playable.
You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

Ah,
Today's review is Drilloid, so...er...On to the
review!
First off, Drilloid is a EARTH/Machine monster, both
have some solid support, but it would have helped
his case if he was Dark/Light. It's effect is what's
nice, this is a very big Mystic Swordsman Lv2.
Destroying f/d monster is always a plus, the only
thing we have that is commonly played that does
that, is, of course, Nobleman Of Crossout. Although
we do have other good options LIKE Nobleman, nothing
gets rid of the monster, un costed. So this effect
is very solid =].
It would seem better then Sasuke Samurai/Mystic
Swordsman Lv2, but I would rather have them. Hell,
in most decks, I would rather have Sasuke ;\. The
best thing THEY had going for them is being
searchable, EXTREMELY searchable. Sangan, and RoTA
x2 made it so you could easily fetch them whenever
you needed them, brilliant.
But this card is still very good. 1600 attack is
roughly the average attack of played monsters, 2000
being the highest. It has TONS of synergy in a
machine deck...
1. It _is_ a machine, so it will obviously benefit
from Limiter Removal.
2. Machine decks sometimes run Book Of Moons, you
can see the synergy there.
With the current meta, if you run machines, you run
3 Book Of Moons, and you run them NOW. Thousand Eyes
Restrict is _everywhere_, book is an amazing answer
to them. Also, Books work great with the limiter'd
machines, allowing you to keep them from dying, from
limiters effect.
Drilloid's stats are nice, 1600 defense makes for a
un-happy Tsukuyomi *Looks at dawn yoshi*.
=]
Traditional: 1/5, Ummm No.
Advanced: 3/5, Solid here.
