Cliff the Trap
Remover
Rated For: The
Side Deck
I don't know who
started the ridiculous assertion that Cliff the Trap
Remover is suited for the side-deck versus
anti-burn, but I'm glad this card was picked just so
we can expose the truth once and for all. Cliff the
Trap Remover cannot kill any commonly played Burn
monsters. That means Des Koala, Stealth Bird,
Lava Golem (even though that doesn't count), Solar
Flare Dragon, Cannon Soldier, and any other burn
monster you can think of. Since his effect requires
battle damage to work, he becomes nearly useless.
There's no point in
even scoring him for the side-deck, he's worthless.
Let's see exactly why that is.
Advantage F/H:
Cliff has
weak stats, so he won't provide any advantage.
Unless you can get some sort of Crossout/Smashing
Ground field removal going, Cliff likely won't be
doing much battle damage. This makes him a worthless
monster and ripe fodder for Lava Golem. Remember,
you have to hit directly twice to get full utility
out of this card. You have to hit once directly for
this card to even out in terms of resource cost.
Traditional Format
Score: 2.5/10
Advanced Format
Score: 2.5/10
Best Draw for the
Situation:
The only time this
will work versus a Burn deck is if you have a clear
field of theirs with all stall cards. Against a
skilled player, it's highly unlikely you'll find
them that bereft of resources, so Cliff becomes a
pretty terrible draw in all phases of play.
T: 4/10
A: 4/10
Attributes/Effect:
1200 is weak. His effect is decent and he's searchable if you want to
side him in a Warrior deck, but keep in mind that
there are far better anti-burn options, including
Pikeru, Hallowed Life, and Mobius/Swarm of
Locusts/Green Kappa (for monsters).
T: 2.5/10
A: 2.5/10
Dependability:
You'll be
maining him to do some good direct damage to your
opponent's monsters. Of course, you'll be summoning
him to try to get rid of the stalled cards that are
preventing your 1700+ attack monsters from
attacking. Unfortunately, that's Stealth Bird's
Defense score. Good luck.
T: 1.5/10
A: 1.5/10
The Bottom Line:
Cliff has been exposed as worthless for the side-deck. You can thank me
later.
A BAD Score--

Cliff the Trap Remover
Cliff is a well-overlooked monster...who's sadly
still not the best in his department.
Cliff has a lot going for him though -- his Dark
type (chaos food), Warrior type (searchability and
reusability), 3 stars (under G-Bind / Level Limit)
and 1200 ATK (under Messenger) makes the general
burn deck unable to block his attack with a M/T. My
issue with him: A good Burn deck will have something
face-down that can withstand your attack (Stealth
Bird, anyone?)
For a Warrior deck, it might be a better idea to
side him, but for anything else, Swarm of Locusts is
a much better idea. Reason? You don't need to have
scored a successful attack to kill an M/T with it.
It forces a burn deck to go on the offensive; and
when a Burn deck has a monster in attack mode, that
leaves them more open than other decks (due to
weaker ATK
monsters.)
Conclusion: Side it if you're running the
Reinforcements of the Army already.

Coin Flip |
Cliff the Trap Remover is a monster with very
friendly stats. These tend to be on the curves of
level 3 with ~1400 attack, level 4 with ~1700-1800,
or level 5+ with at least 2300 attack or a damn good
reason for not being at 2300+.
Cliff is basically your standard uber-searchable
monster, fetched by any warrior support, Mystic
Tomato, Witch and Sangan all at once plus having a
useful built-in effect.
The effect has its flaws. First off, if they have a
Mirror Force down, they will bloody use it on this
instead of taking LP damage.
Because the effect comes after declaring battle, it
doesn't do anything to make this guy's attack safe.
Second off, deck destruction is rarely something
seen splashed into people's decks. You generally
don't like thinning their deck, putting cards in
their graveyard for chaos food, and giving them a
Sinister Serpent or Fear From the Dark.
So the only redeeming part about this card is an
inherently flawed deck destruction aspect. The plus
side is this.
You have Cliff and BLS on the field. You attack with
Cliff first when your opponent has one card set.
Your opponent can choose to activate Sakuretsu Armor
on Cliff or lose it. So, basically, it does force
your opponent to do stuff he will regret because he
doesn't have a choice in the matter.
It's great against stall decks, though, for its
stats. Slips under several bind cards and then
dismantles them with his knife (which probably
weighs more than he does, judging by the picture).
He's a good card in sideboard, but I'd only
reccomend him for advanced format.

Cliff the Trap Remover
I’ve never been a big fan of Cliff, since I espouse
the doctrine “If you managed to inflict damage to
your opponent’s Life Points while attacking, why are
you worried about his Spells or Traps?”
Nevertheless, Cliff is a good monster. 1200 ATK
isn’t bad for a Level 3, he gets all that crazy
Warrior support, and he’s a Dark Scorpion, allowing
him to benefit in the ridiculously few Dark Scorpion
Decks out there.
His two effects both can be useful, but they
probably won’t be. Getting rid of two of your
opponent’s cards from the top of his deck is an
awesome effect if you’re trying to deck him out; if
not, it could help him just as much as hurt him. As
for the destruction effect, as I said before, if you
managed to get a hit in, you probably aren’t too
worried about what, if anything, your opponent has
set. Granted, you could certainly want to get rid of
his Gravity Bind to let your stronger monsters
attack, or maybe you want to nuke that Wave Motion
Cannon he’s saving; but most of the time, there just
won’t be a good reason to use this effect either.
Side Deck him against Stall Decks if you’re running
Warriors. Or run him in an offensive Deck
Destruction Deck with Don Zaloog and Sasuke Samurai
#3. You can use him in your cookie cutters if you’d
like, because he’s not at all bad; there just isn’t
really a good reason to use him.

Cliff the Trap Remover
With Wednesday comes the review of Cliff the Trap
Remover, a member of the Dark Scorpions.
Cliff has somewhat decent stats. 1200 ATK allows him
to destroy a few monsters, but if you throw in the
fact that he’s a Warrior, Cliff’s chances of gaining
an ATK boost become fairly good, allowing him to
destroy monsters easier and to activate his effect
with less of a hassle.
When Cliff does damage to the opponent’s Life
Points, he can destroy a Spell or Trap on the field
or send the 2 top cards of the opponent’s Deck to
the Graveyard. Both effects are rather useful,
especially when compared to the effects of some of
the other Dark Scorpions. An MST-Type effect should
never be frowned upon, nor should the possibility to
get rid of two of your opponent’s cards, giving
Cliff surprisingly good possibilities. Cliff’s only
problem is his low original ATK, causing difficulty
towards frequent activation of one of his effects.
All in all though, Cliff is a pretty good monster.
Cliff works well in numerous areas, Warriors being
an obvious choice. A second option is a Dark
Scorpions Deck, an extremely rare sight that may as
well be a slightly out-of-the-ordinary Warrior Deck.
And as with all the cards this week, he could be
used in the Side Deck as a way of getting rid of
more S/T cards.
Advanced: 3.5/5. The ATK may cause difficulty when
using Cliff’s effects.
Traditional: 2/5. There are much easier to use forms
of S/T Card destruction.
Overall: 2.75/5.
Art: 2.5/5. I’m not sure how a dagger would help
with a trap, but I guess it could work.

Cliff the Trap Remover
I guess he is the sideboard tech against
a) burner
b) ....
c) ........?????
hahaha...basically this is a card IMO that only goes
in against burner to destroy all those stupid Level
Limits and Chain Energy and all those nasty stuff.
Personally (since we all know FTK is the Kryptonite
of the sHecKii) I don't have room for a SINGLE
purpose monster like cliffy over here...I'd rather
play yesterday's card Pikeru over it..
But for all the other people who never have to play
against it, here's the thing...
Mobius the Frost Monarch, Swarm of Locust, Dust
Tornado, Kinetic Soldier...all good against burner
and Dust Tornado and Kinetic Soldier can go against
multiple decks...
Speical burner tech is actually running Lava Golemn
against burner though...they can't kill it either
dxP
But back to cliffy over here...
Cliff is not that bad of a card if you can get it
out with Mystic Tomato and then Smashing Ground/run
over with a bigger creature and kill your opponent
with it. It can become removal on a stick but it'll
be hard keeping it alive with its stats....
Though if you want to make a deck based on good
level 3 and under deck, try running Level Limit Area
B, Gravity Bind, DD Crazy Beast, Cliffy, and even
Mataza the Zapper...
