Lord
Tranorix
Winged Kuriboh

This card really has more value as a joke than a defender, but as a defender it still isn’t that bad. Winged Kuriboh is Level 1, so it Morphs into Thousand Eyes Restrict. It’s also LIGHT, another plus. Its stats are lackluster, but you’re not supposed to be attacking with Winged Kuriboh anyway.

When Winged Kuriboh is destroyed in battle, your LP become impervious to Battle Damage for the remainder of the turn. This won’t protect your monsters from destruction, won’t protect you from damage by card effects, and won’t prevent damage caused by the battle Winged Kuriboh itself is involved in.

You could argue that there’s little reason to use it, which is relatively true, as Waboku and Threatening Roar debatably do the job a lot better, especially since they don’t need to be destroyed in battle, being Traps and all. Still, Winged Kuriboh could be an interesting addition to Fairy Decks that use Thousand Eyes Restrict and enjoy stall (what comes to mind is a deck revolving around The Agent of Judgment – Saturn. TER on the field with a few White Magicians Pikeru is a great strategy for those).

ExMinion OfDarkness
Winged Kuriboh

Geez, Kuriboh's already mediocre at best, did we need to make a worse version?

The great thing about the original Kuriboh was that it could stay in the (near-)safety of the hand, the suprise a big factor -- even though Duo is prevalent, it doesn't allow the hand to be seen.

This guy could also give a suprise to duelists -- when it's revealed from the Nobleman of Crossout, which every single person is going to run 2 of, even the newbies because of the starter decks...

I know that's not a good reason to knock (NoC?) a card on its own -- but if it does get killed in battle, it's really only saving you for one turn. And it's ONLY saving YOU -- not the rest of the monsters. If you want to play one card that's going to help you for a turn, Waboku is in many old starters, and Threatening Roar is a massively-available common.

(Yes, I realize there's a combo card with this in a future set that actually has a decent effect. However, for now...)

Again, for what I think is the 4th time this week, 1/5 all.

Coin Flip
Coming in at a dead last for this week (yet, oddly enough, remaining the most playable [despite what my ratings will tell you]) is Winged Kuriboh.

I don't know why you would play this card right now. It's shoddy. It can stop swarms from kicking your LP back to last Thursday. So, my friend, can Scapegoat. So can Waboku. So can Threatening Roar. And they don't make you waste your summon (well, forget Scapegoat then). So why would you play this card?

The answer is an interesting card or two from next set. An Ultra Rare nomi with the same stats (but 9 levels higher) that combines Lightning Vortex and Magic Cylinder all in one (card advantage and everything). Until then… Send your Winged Kuribohs to me so I can use them as Scapegoat tokens. (You may think I am joking. You are dead wrong.)

The other use this card has is some strange combo used with DNA Surgery and Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower that focuses all around monsters that special summon themselves from your deck after they go to the graveyard. If you can kill one of these guys in battle first, you won't have to worry about damage. But hey! That's what Spirit Barrier is for. =\ No thanks.

Snapper Winged Kuriboh

Our final card this week is Winged Kuriboh, a monster version of Hallowed
Life Barrier (sort of anyway).

WK is basically the exact opposite of Kuriboh. Both have 300/200 ATK/DEF
(which makes them terrible monsters) but Kuriboh has this Anakin Skywalker
thing going on making it a Fiend and a DARK monster, WK has this whole
wombat thing going on making it a Fairy and a Light monster. This good Jedi
bad Jedi comparison really does nothing for the Kuribohs, but it puts their
stats into a language Star Trekies can’t understand.

WK’s effect activates when it’s destroyed and sent to the Graveyard (via
battle, an effect, yo mama, etc). Once the effect is active, WK protects its
owner from Battle Damage until the end of the turn. When you think about it,
it’s obvious Waboku is a far superior choice as it does the same exact thing
yet also protects your monsters. The only real home for WK is in an OMG
That’s SO Adorable Deck, where WK would undoubtedly allow you to boast about
how cute your monsters are for a few extra turns. Any other Deck however
should stick with Waboku.

Advanced: 3.5/5. It gets a 3 for its pure adoriblation.
Traditional: 3/5. You should be using Waboku anyway.
Overall: 3.25/5.
Art: 5/5. It’s way better than the MRD Kuriboh, but the angel wings offend
me, as does the lack of a halo.

dawnyoshi When it comes down to it, Winged Kuriboh is s decent one-turn form of protection. Well, it would be if Nobleman of Crossout wasn’t so damn popular. The field-control provided by my baby (Tsukuyomi) certainly doesn’t help things either. If you’re playing against beastdown, then fine. This card’s a great option for staying alive. It’s also a fairy and it’s LIGHT, and both factors are quite abusive. However, this card just won’t suffice in most environments, especially in traditional.

In limited, this card’s a bust in my opinion. You don’t want to lose field advantage! Draft something that can actually survive an attack, or a low-ATK monster that can actually turn the game over to you!

Well, for those of you who watch or have seen any Yugioh GX, Yugi gives Judai a Winged Kuriboh in the pilot I believe except it was called Hane Kuriboh I think. Anyway...

Now, for those Kuriboh fans, including myself, is there any reason to use this card over Kuriboh? Wait wait, I'm getting ahead of myself, why run Kuriboh at all? Ok, now I've gone too far back, I'm not comparing both cards.

Seriously, taking no Battle Damage by just having this guy being destroyed is good, yet Kuriboh just needs to be discarded, so meh. Ok, I AM comparing two cards.

I just really wanted this card to be done, and it hadn't been yet, so I choose it for my week.

Ratings:

2.5/5 Across the board just because I'm a fan of the potential and the picture

Art: 4.5/5

Quick Recap: Kuriboh = Fiend/Dark Winged Kuriboh = Light/Fairy

You stay classy, Planet Earth
