Tsukuyomi
Tsukuyomi was good before the recent
update to rulings, and Tsukuyomi is even better
after it. It does everything I said it does here (http://pojo.com/yu-gi-oh/COTD/2004Dec/27T.shtml,
to avoid redundancy) but now it does a little bit
more!
If you have a face-up Magician of
Faith in ATK position and you summon Tsukuyomi, you
can target that MoF, flip it face-down, and Flip
Summon it again – all in the same turn. If you have
a face-up Thousand-Eyes Restrict with a monster
equipped and you summon Tsukuyomi, you can flip that
TER face-down, destroy the equipped monster, Flip
Summon TER and suck up another one – all in the same
turn.
You couldn’t do those things before.
Now you can. Tsukuyomi is becoming more and more of
an asset even to cookie cutters, though I still
stand by what I said six months ago about his best
deck being Trample.
And just something to keep in mind:
You CANNOT target a Token with Tsukuyomi’s effect.
Tokens can never exist face-down, so a Token will
NEVER be a legal target for Tsukuyomi (or Book of
Moon, for that matter).
Traditional – CCCC: 3.5/5
Traditional – Trample: 4/5
Advanced – CCWC: 4/5
Advanced – Trample: 4.5/5
OVERALL RATING: 4/5

Tsukuyomi
Everyone saw it coming but no one did jack about it.
With the rule changes occurring only a month before,
every single player know that Tsukuyomi was the card
to beat at the 2005 National tournament...and
everyone just let it happen.
...but to be fair, once Tsuku gets one of her many
advantage-producing combos off, there's not much you
CAN do.
(To the uneducated: The rules on changing a
monster's position have changed. Basically, as long
as you didn't summon/set the monster that turn,
didn't try to attack with it, and didn't change its
position on your own already, you can change its
position.)
Thanks to the new rule changes, ALL of the following
were seen in pretty much EVERY deck at Nationals:
*Tsuku + Magician of Faith -- Flip a used MoF
face-down, flip it up again in the same turn (thanks
to the new rules), and get back your broken spell
card yet AGAIN. This + Pot of Greed in the graveyard
= wrong.
*Tsuku + Thousand-Eyes Restrict -- Flip a
Thousand-Eyes face-down, sending the equipped
monster to the graveyard, and either flip it face-up
again and take a new monster, or attack with all of
your other monsters, then flip TER up in Main Phase
2 to continue the lock. Additionally, this card
forces an opponent's TER face-down so you can
destroy it and break their lock.
*Tsuku + Black Luster Soldier -- Envoy of the
Beginning; BLS-remove, flip BLS down, flip BLS back
up, and either remove something else or attack
(possibly twice). Broken.
Oh yeah, and she's Dark, so if she does get killed,
you have a monster you won't worry about reclaiming
to remove for above-mentioned Envoy.
Basically...Dawn Yoshi's original idea + rule
changes benefitting the card + newly discovered uses
for the card + rabid netdeckers = Top 8 decks at
Nationals being almost the exact same thing.
Traditional: 2.75/5
Advanced: 5/5 (for right now, anyway)

Tsukuyomi gets its second review 6 months after the
first. Since then, we have received one major change
to the way the game is played, and as I write this
an auction for a box of cards I won with the help of
Tsukuyomi is going up on eBay. I'm damned sure this
is good.
First off, the thing you have to understand is that
Tsukuyomi and Scapegoat are best friends. They have
been going out for a long time, and I'm damn sure
Tsukuyomi will accept when Scapegoat proposes to
her. Why, you ask?
1) Creature Swap. This is not really important,
you'd only run 1 Creature Swap to begin with. Just
listing. They are both incredible cards with Swap-a-lawp.
2) One provides intense field presence, and the
other provides intense field control. You figure out
which is which.
3) Metamorphosis with Magician of Faith and
Scapegoat means that you can pull off a Tsukuyomi
combo with both Thousand-Eyes Restrict and Magician
of Faith, both of which are good indicators of a
finished game.
4) Both give great card advantage. One just gives
you four Thousand-Eyes Idol, and the other gives you
an infinite amount of Book of Moons.
Let's go over the merits of this card. First off,
the fact that you have an infinite amount of Book of
Moons works. The fact that you have an infinite
amount of Book of Moons fixed to an 1100/1400 works
better. I don't know how much you may have noticed
this, but Book of Moon is good. I don't know how
much you may have noticed this, but a LOT of
monsters have 1000 DEF. This thing could get +1
every turn with even less effort than it should.
Second off, the combo potential of Book of Moon/Tsukuyomi
is ludicrous. My personal favorite was Snatch
Stealing a Jinzo and then summoning Tsukuyomi, and
then flipping the Jinzo back face-up that same turn
(done on the day I write this). This is what has
completely changed the way we review Tsukuyomi. That
new ruling. The One Ruling to Rule Them All.
Third off, Tsukuyomi is one of the best ways to
break through Morph "locks" like Dark Balter the
Terrible, or Thousand-Eyes Restrict, or Ryu Senshi.
Okay? Okay.
It's DARK. Chaos fanatics rejoice.
And I suppose that it would be worth noting that
this girl here is simply incredible with a number of
cards in a number of situations and for a number of
reasons. I cannot go over every one. Play her. Play
1 at first, and then reach up to the incredible
maximum of 2.
General:
Traditional: 3.9/5 Interesting tech here, but you
need field presence, not necessarily field control.
Advanced: 4.5/5 PLAY HER!

Tsukuyomi
Today’s card is a monster that I’ve reviewed twice
before, but never have I reviewed it whilst it’s a
focal point to CC Deck-Type. But since I have
reviewed it before AND since most people should know
the ins and outs of it by now, I shan’t go into
great detail on most points of interest.
As an 1100 ATK Spirit, Tsukuyomi has little going
for it. Sure it can Flip monsters face-down when
appears on the field face-up, but who cares! As long
as the TCG rulings on position changes remains in
effect, Tsukuyomi has no spectacular uses. What’s
that you say? The recent rulings overhaul has
enabled Tsukuyomi to become a threat to all
opposition when used in conjuntion with TER? It’s
about time.
So all you need for Tsukuyomi to be extremely
effective is a TER on the field that hasn’t been
summoned or had its position changed thus far this
turn, as well as a Tsukuyomi in hand. To make this
thing work, have TER suck up an opponent’s monster,
summon Tsukuyomi and Flip TER face-down, Flip Summon
TER, and then have it suck up a second monster.
Tsukuyomi will return to your hand at the end of the
turn, TER will prevent your opponent from attacking
during their turn (assuming TER is undestroyed), and
you’ll be free to repeat this double monster
destruction during your next turn.
All in all, Tsukuyomi is the new black. As long as
Goat Control reigns supreme, so too shall Tsukuyomi.
For further points of interest on Tsukuyomi and all
other cards that have been reviewed by someone,
visit our website at www.pojo.com/yu-gi-oh/COTD/ or
type in AOL keyword “eleven”.
Advanced: 4.5/5. The 1100 ATK is a little
disappointing…
Traditional: 4.5/5. I haven’t the foggiest idea how
Goat Control is affecting Traditional, so I’ll
assume that it is…
Overall: 4.5/5.
Art: 2/5. I’s said it before and I’ll say it again,
I don’t care for Tsukuyomi’s artwork.

Tsukuyomi…
This…card…is…GOD!!! I don’t care if you’re playing
Traditional or Advanced, Tsukuyomi OWNS YOU! But
then again, I’m really biased towards this little
spirit. It’s such an awesome tech card and a great
deck theme. In reality, Tsukuyomi works fairly well
by maintaining hand advantage and working in combos
in traditional, it tears apart advanced as I feel
the Tsuku-Lock deck is easily tier 1, and it’s an
average draft pick in limited. It depends. If you’re
drafting Dark Revelations 1, then get this if you
see some abusive flip effects such as Gravekeeper’s
Spy. If it’s Dark Crisis, it’s a fairly decent
mid-draft pick.
Oh, and it’s sad how people run one of these in
their decks instead of two. That’s right. They’re
sad. I feel sad for their Tsukuyomis. Poor little
spirits. Are you jerks happy? You made Tsukuyomi
sad!!!
Traditional: 3.5/5
Advanced: 4.5/5
Limited: 3.5/5

NOTE: I am not very familiar with todays card, which
is Tsukuyomi and I am hesitant to do a review on
accounts of this is a very good, and important card.
I've only seen it used twice, and had to do a lot
research before doing this.
Tsukuyomi is a Spirit and we all know what that
means, but only Level 4, so at least no tributes are
required. However, Tsukuyomi is probably the best
damn spirit in the game. She only has 1100 attack
points, and an equally awesome 1400 defense but the
effect is why you would use Tsukuyomi, not to
attack, or defend. For once, being a spirit isn't
that bad on accounts of you WANT to be able to use
the effect again and again.
Plus, you get the effect if she is Normal Summoned,
Flipped Summoned, or Flipped face up, so she's
extremely versatile. There are many many uses for
Tsukuyomi (which between our collective minds) will
all be covered. For one, there's the continuous
re-use of Magician of Faith to re-use your precious
Spells time and again.
Adding Tsukuyomi to a deck that already uses Book of
Moon doesn't hurt which allows you to flip your
opponent's monsters face down more often which is a
plus for trample decks. Forcing your opponents
monsters into defense does half the work for cards
like Airknight, Spear Dragon, Mefist, and the like.
This is also a good way to take care of powerful
tribute monsters such as Jinzo and BLS to make them
easier to destroy with one of your monsters or even
a NoC just to rid the field of their monsters. Also,
Tsukuyomi is a Dark, so if you allow it to be
destroyed, then yea...
Ratings:
Traditional: 3.8/5
Traditional Trample: 4.1/5
Traditional Offensive Book of Moon: 4.4/5
Advanced: 4.3/5
Advanced Trample: 4.6/5
Advanced Offensive Book of Moon: 4.9/5
Art: 3.5/5 It is a neat picture...odd but neat!
