Lord Tranorix	Cannon Soldier Cannon Soldier has long been one of my favorite cards, and evidently, someone in the top 8 at Nationals used one in his deck…his non-Burn, non-Machine Deck. I salute him! Cannon Soldier’s more useful than people give him credit for. Late game, he may be just what you need to win – launch CS and a few other monsters off for that last bit of damage. Earlier, you can use him to launch Sangan to get a quick search, or to launch an opponent’s monster you have via Snatch Steal or Brain Control, or to launch a Serpent just for the hell of it. With Scapegoat seeing more and more play, Cannon Soldier’s efficacy in cookie cutters has greatly increased. Launching four Sheep Tokens = a quick 2000 damage. Just bear in mind that you can’t activate Scapegoat and summon Cannon Solder in the same turn, a mistake I see all too often. I won’t even bother talking much about how great Cannon Soldier is in a Burner. It’s just…obvious. One combo that was seldom appreciated earlier but might be now is to use Cannon Soldier in conjunction with Soul Exchange…Soul Burn? ExMinion OfDarkness	Cannon Soldier This long-forgotten monster won quite a few games for the Nationals players who used it, and punished those who weren't expecting to see it at all. Cannon Soldier has so many uses and combos it's not even funny. Oh wait, yeah it is, if you're the one playing them. Mystic Tomato can fetch him since he's a 1400 Dark-type (again with the splashable Dark monsters for this week) so it's easy to bring him to the field. Scapegoat can equal 2,000 damage with it. Opponent's stolen monsters can be tributed to evade Snatch Steal life gain/Brain Control returning (even though Book of Moon does a pretty good job of this with Snatch.) It can create the final needed offensive after a large attack, or let you gain an offensive in a match where you can't attack through what your opponent has on the field or face-down. He'll also win his fair share of games due to duels being decided on remaining life points. Basically...he's another viable choice for a monster to throw 1 of in your deck full of broken cards. Coin Flip	The last CotD this week is… A surprise. It's also another re-review. Today we touch over on Cannon Soldier, the second MRD card reviewed this week. What is there to say about this guy for me? I'm not an expert at using him. In fact, I just don't use him. The main idea, I suppose, would be to take out annoying things like Scapegoat tokens, or to put monsters in the graveyard, or to push for that extra damage that the much better Ceasefire and Magic Cylinder couldn't push. That does not mean he is not a good card. On the contrary, he has fairly good stats for a level 4 (which, in today's terms, means he won't die if Tsukuyomi'd) and a useful burn effect. Burn effects that can push that extra amount for game are huge, IMO. I find burn damage to be the best tech possible. The 1400 could come in useful against Bottomless Trap Hole. Brain Control and Snatch Steal with this means good things. Ah hell, don't bother with my review of Cannon Soldier. It sucks. General: 3/5 Traditional 3.5/5 Advanced
Snapper	Cannon Soldier Today’s card is Cannon Soldier, a monster that enables Scapegoats to do some damage, as miniscule as it may be. Much like its Toon counterpart, CS is a 1400 ATK Machine. Blah blah blah, Limiter Removal, blah blah blah, 2800, 5600, 11200 ATK, blah blah blah, I said most of this when I reviewed Toon CS, blah blah blah, forgive me, blah blah blah. For each monster you Tribute with CS, your opponent loses 500 Life Points. So to fill the void the might Calculus class filled during the school year, let’s make an equation to represent the damage your opponent can gain. We’ll use the equation d=500t, where d is damage done and t is the number of monsters you Tributed. So if you Tribute, oh, I don’t know, 4 Scapegoats, that’s 2000 damage to your opponent. Needless to say, CS can be a nice finisher. With all of the, oh, I don’t know, large amounts of Scapegoats being used, CS has plenty of fodder available to it. Of course its effect isn’t limited to Goat Tokens, you can also Tribute an opponent’s monster that have taken control of via Brain Control or Enemy Controller. Of course those two card’s usage has gone down the drain recently, but it’s something to look forward to if you do use them. All in all, CS is a nice all around monster. With a nice ATK, functionality with Limiter Removal, and the chance to burn the opponent with “yo mama” jokes, CS can be a quick filler for any Chaos or Goat Control Deck. Advanced: 4/5. Scapegoat comboer. Traditional: 4/5. Chaos helper. Overall: 4/5. Art: 3/5. Meh.
dawnyoshi	Cannon Soldier has been, and always will be, one of the best machine-type monsters to be released. Its tribute effect is ridiculously abusive with Scapegoat, this turns control-changing cards like Snatch Steal into stupid easy +1 advantages, it’s an insane game ender with Limiter Removal, and it’s an insane game ender with Return from the Different Dimension. Did I mention this card is good? In traditional, however, tributing your own monsters is a bad thing. Reconsider it here, even in the Catapult Chaos One Turn Kill deck, where Toon Cannon Soldier gets the job done easier and can be fetched by your godly deck thinning tutor. However, this card is extremely underrated in the advanced format and is a fine option in limited. Traditional: 2/5 Advanced: 3/5 Limited: 3/5
Dark Paladin	As Cards found in the Top 8 National Decks week progresses, we come to quite an old card today which can also be VERY annoying. Cannon Soldier 1400-1300 Level 4 Dark-Machine Cannon Soldier is Dark and Machine which is good for Chaos, Machine, and Chaos/Mech decks. Then, the effect which is simple. He can sacrifice as many monsters per turn that are available on your field to do 500 points of direct damage to your opponent. Now, for those of you who may not know, Cannon Soldier CAN sacrifice himself, and as stated, you may sacrifice as many monsters as you have available during the current turn. Of course, monsters you use to tribute summon or that are tributed for other cards effects are excluded, but that's no big deal. This card is also a nice choice for an Offensive Stall deck running your Level Limit Area B and Gravity Bind. You can still attack with Cannon Soldier and use his effect so it's a Double Bonus. Also, I think Cannon Soldier could even be a good choice in a semi-offensive Exodia deck. You could sacrifice your own Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest to obtain your pieces a bit quicker than having to wait for your opponent to attack. In short, Cannon Soldier IS an excellent burn card. Traditional: 3.6/5 Traditional Burn: 3.9/5 Traditional Exodia: 4.4/5 Traditional Offensive Stall: 4.9/5 Advanced: 4.1/5 Advanced Burn: 4.4/5 Advanced Exodia: 4.9/5 Advanced Offensive Stall: 5.0/5 Art: 2.0/5 Something has to suck on Cannon Soldier, and the art does. You stay classy, Planet Earth :)
