Sage’s Stone
With the release of the penultimate Harry Potter
book looming ever nearer, someone decided it would
be a good idea to do a Harry Potter-themed week, for
some reason.
So today we’re reviewing Sage’s Stone, a card that
apprently reminds people of the
Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone. You activate it when
Dark Magician Girl’s on your side of the field and
you get a Dark Magician from your hand or deck. It’s
a good card, really; DMG only requires one tribute
as opposed to Dark Magician’s two, so it’s fairly
easy to get her onto the field. Playing this will
get you the oft-needed Dark Magician that much
faster.
Any Dark Magician Deck using Dark Magician Girl (few
do, I should note) should run this card, as being
able to summon a Dark Magician quickly with no cost
is extremely valuable for DM Decks. Outside of them,
of course, this is garbage; and even in them, I
wouldn’t necessarily recommend this card, as Dark
Magician Girl just isn’t great.
Again though, if you run her, run this.

This week is Harry Potter Week. I had a bunch of
witty reviews set up for this week, but my computer
finally stopped having fatal errors that caused me
to lose my reviews and just up and crashed. :)
Certainly made things easier. So, granted, these
reviews will suck. Just fair warning.
The Sorcerer's Stone, also known as the
Philosopher's Stone (but dumbened down for the sake
of American children who didn't learn it from either
Fullmetal Alchemist or the Aladdin cartoon) is a
simple Normal Spell card that requires the presence
of a Minerva McGonagall Magician Girl to tutor out 1
Dark Albus Dumbledore.
There really isn't much to be said here. Dark
Magician Girl lacks in multiple aspects. She really
isn't good. But throw in a Sage's Stone and suddenly
you're swarming in a way that's stupid powerful.
The trouble with this is that you have one stupid
component (which also doubles as a horrible topdeck)
+ 1 horrible topdeck to stop you from getting
horrible topdecks from Dark Magician. Dark Magician
has better tutors. Skilled Dark Magician comes to
mind. Dark Magician decks aren't Tier 1. They won't
be until we get Dimension Magic.
So we have a stupid component and a horrible topdeck
meets a great tutor and a horrible topdeck. Horrid.
But then again, the other option is to run something
even worse like Dark Magician Knight. Hurah. If you
don't want to run the GOOD Spellcaster deck, but you
want to run Dark Magicians and Spellcasters, then
this might actually be a good option.
However, I won't go into further detail about how
good the deck would be. I believe this will sum it
up: 2-0'd most of the time. Yeah. It's not good.
Since you would ONLY play this in a Dark Magician
deck, I can't really give it a rating elsewhere. In
a Dark Magician deck:

Sage’s Stone
Welcome to a week of multiple themes! What themes
exist this week? Well there’s the
Never-Been-Reviewed-By-Snapper theme, the
Never-Been-Reviewed-Ever theme, and most importantly
of all the
Hey-That-Card’s-Artwork-Is-Similar-To-Something-Of-Slight-Signifigance-In-One-Of-The-Harry-Potter-Books-And-Since-Harry-Potter-And-The-Half-Blood-Prince-Is-Coming-Out-This-Weekend-We-Should-Review-It
theme. I personally felt we needed to shorten the
name of that last one, but Otaku was all like, “No;
that’s fine.” So I’m all like, “Whatever.”
Today’s card is Sage’s Stone, a card that in many
ways resembles the Sorcerer’s Stone, or for ye of
British heritage, the Philosipher’s Stone, which
spell check is telling me should be spelled
“Philosopher’s Stone”. As you may recall, the
Sorcerer’s Stone is the main focal point of the
first book, and Harry and Co. spend a good portion
of the book learning about it, finding out about it,
stopping someone from stealing it, and stealing it
themselves. It’s very anticlimactic when you think
about it…
SS has a very simple and very not so useful effect.
Firstly, it can only be activated when you have a
Dark Magician Girl on you side of the field, which
is basically something that won’t happen outside a
pure Dark Magician Deck.
If, mayhaps, DMG had a higher original attack and
Magician of Black Chaos were available in the TCG,
the probability that you’d be able to use SS would
be substantially higher due to more incentive. But
she’s stuck at 2000 and MoBC’s fate is an enigma to
the TCG.
Activation requirements aside, SS’s primary effect
allows you to Special Summon a Dark Magician from
your hand or Deck. Now, I personally would prefer
using something like Skilled Dark Magician as a
means of Special Summoning Dark Magcian, as it’s a
nice beatstick and it’s a tad easier to use. Of
course in a CC environment, effects with a narrow
array of eligible targets are shunned, and are
instead replaced by cookies. In the end, SS is a
nice attempt at once again giving Dark Magician all
the love Spellcasters as a whole could be getting,
but it falls short when compared to more widely
useful and/or generic cards.
Advanced (True DM Deck): 2.5/5. I’d think Skilled
Dark Magician would suffice… Traditional (True DM
Deck): 2/5. Urge… to dump DM with Painful Choice…
and follow up with Monster Reborn… too strong…
Overall (True DM Deck): 2.25/5.

Dark Paladin |
Well, welcome to another week (this being the 2nd)
of NO The Lost Millenium Cards. This week pending
the upcoming release of the newest Harry Potter
novel, welcome to Harry Potter week.
Today brings us Sage's Stone, a card most of you
would probably think I'd like or give a good rating
for, however...you are all horribly mistaken.
Sage's Stone allows you to summon a Dark Magician
from your hand OR deck simply by having a Dark
Magician Girl on the field. Play Sage's Stone and
you get to summon Dark Magician for free. Not having
to tribute 2 monsters is good, don't get me wrong,
but there isn't reason for this card, even in a DM
deck.
I run a Dark Magician/Paladin deck and I don't run
DM Girl on accounts of it isn't necessary. I
personally believe Skilled Dark Magician is a more
reliable way to summon your Sage. I suppose, if you
ARE running DM Girl in your DM deck, then
*sigh*...run a Sage's Stone.
You still need two resources though, even though you
aren't tributing 2 monsters for DM. You still need
DM Girl and Sage's Stone.
Ratings:
1.5/5 across the board
3.5/5 across the board in a dedicated DM deck with
DM Girl

Sage's Stone
Hey, sorry for the delay, LOTS of stuff going on
right now for me, so a theme week with only a couple
playable cards, merely filling in time until the
next set kinda took a lower priority than normal.
In order to run Sage's Stone, you need to not only
play Dark Magician but his girlfriend as well. You
get out DMG, you trade Sage's Stone for a DM. Not
bad as far as swarming the field goes...but
admittedly, Dark Magician decks as a whole are
crap...and even worse, DM + DMG in the same deck
will lead to a TON of dead draws. Yes, you can use a
Dark Magician in your hand, but then you're giving
up 2 cards in hand in addition to having to tribute
something for DMG already, most likely.
A card that forces you to run ANOTHER sub-par card
in order to work...
1/5.
