Lord
Tranorix
Reshef the Dark Being

Reshef is one of the best Ritual Monsters in the game – some might even say he’s the best. With 2500 ATK, he’s certainly strong, and he’s one of few LIGHT Fiends in the game, meaning that if he’s in the Graveyard, he’s (LIGHT) food for BLS-EotB and food for Dark Necrofear.

But he’s a Ritual Monster, and to summon him you need not only to have his Ritual but also to be able to get rid of 8 stars’ worth of monsters. Using another Reshef would work best, probably, as you’d get it all paid for with one monster as opposed to wasting a lot; nonetheless, the cost can be steep.

If you get Reshef onto the field, however, he’s quite powerful. His effect might as well read "Once per turn, change any Spell Card in your hand into Change of Heart.” Does he have a Black Luster Soldier bothering you? Take it. Jinzo? Take it. Suspicious face-down? Take it. It’s Change of Heart, and Change of Heart was banned for a reason.

There are more downsides, such as not having any monsters worth taking on your opponent’s field and not having any Spells to discard for Reshef’s effect; but a Reshef deck should play its cards wisely, and then it would be very rentsy.

ExMinion OfDarkness
Reshef the Dark Being

This card falls under the category of "Dark Paladin". Great effect, horrible requirements for it.

I'm not saying he isn't uber if you get him out and you have the right stuff to discard. But keep in mind, you're already giving up THREE cards from your hand just to put him in play (Ritual + Monster + sacrifice monster for Ritual), and then not only would you have to put out ANOTHER card to use his effect, but it has to be a spell! At least let the player who gave up 3 cards to summon this thing use Serpent every turn to use its effect, Konami *sigh*

1/5 for sheer hand disadvantage in all formats.

SandTrap
Reshef the Dark Being

This card can only be Ritual Summoned with the Ritual Spell Card, "Final Ritual of the Ancients". Discard 1 Spell Card from your hand. Take control of 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field until the End Phase. You can only use this effect once per turn.

An Enemy Controller-like effect is okay, but not great. Especially not great at the cost of a Spell card. Compared to another Ritual-type monster like Relinquished, and it's easy to see why this isn't such a great Ritual monster.

Well...I guess in a Ritual deck, he'd be great. But let's face it -- Ritual decks are rarely seen in the metagame. Why? Because they burn your hand, and like most other monsters, can be easily destroyed. The outcome is not worth the cost.

And just imagine: you finally get out this huge monster, and ram into a Scapegoat. Next turn, Metamorphosis pops up and all your hard work ends up helping your opponent. Meh. Just one of many examples where Rituals prove to simply not be worth the time and trouble of bringing them out.

Rating: 0/5. You won't see this in the Top 8 of a SJC with the current Ban List and card support.

Coin Flip
Reshef the Dark Being is the monster that relieves us from the awkwardness of yesterday. Honestly now, why?

Anyway, this guy is special. He's the third LIGHT/Fiend in the game, and yet he is still a Dark Being. Incredible. Let's compare him to Archlord Zerato for a moment. Archlord Zerato turns any LIGHT monster from your hand into Raigeki. This turns any Spell from your hand into Change of Heart. Once per turn.

Believe it or not, Ritual Monsters are pretty good. Compared to Fusion Monsters (which will get good, but we'll wait for that) and nomi monsters, they're easy to summon and incredibly searchable. You can build a deck that is just all speed with 3 Manju, 3 Senju, and 3 Sonic Bird and it can work. Will it? Not likely. But hey, Rituals really aren't that bad.

Anyway, turning an MST, a useless Morph or Scapegoat or whatever in your hand into Change of Heart is really quite cool. But in order for it to work at its optimum…

Your opponent has to have D. D. Assailant or a Magician of Faith on their field, or one monster and fairly low LP.

This card just isn't solid enough. Change of Heart was wonderful in that it had incredible versatility. You could activate it from the top of your deck, control an opponent's Breaker, remove the token and then kill a D. D. Warrior Lady. Or you could hit a Magician of Faith, and the whole world would just unravel in your opponent's face. Now you need to let it survive in an environment saturated with removal. Not that good.

The Lost Millennium has the most difficult-to-summon Ultras ever. Just wait until next set, when we get a Special Summon-only monster, two Fusions and a Spell Card for our Ultras… Whee.

Snapper Reshef the Dark Being

Today’s card is Reshef the Dark Being, one of the many cards in TLM that allows you to take control of an opponent’s monster.

Reshef’s stats aren’t great for a Level 8 Tribute monster; 2500 ATK is of course more than enough to banish most almost every widely played mobster to the Graveyard, but it’s severely lacking for a Level 8 monster. But since it’s a Ritual Monster, who cares? Nobody wants to be different and try using a Ritual Monster. Psh. Ritual my face… It’s also a Fiend allowing it to gain an effect negation ability when both it and Dark Ruler Ha Des are on the field.

Like all Ritual Monsters, Reshef can only be Special Summoned through a Ritual Spell Card. And since you all can read, I won’t point out which one to use. If you can’t read though and you’re curious about which one to use, it isn’t not Final Ritual of the Ancients.

Reshef’s actual effect is rather easy to understand; once a turn, at the cost of discarding a Spell from your hand, you can take control of an opponent’s monster until the end of the turn. The effect should be for many reminiscent to a card that left us back in April. Save the required discard of a Spell, Reshef’s effect is an copy of Change of Heart’s effect. And since CoH was so popular, you’d think Reshef would be equally popular. But you’re wrong, and it isn’t, and it’s all the effect’s cost’s fault.

As you’re probably aware, Spells are a crucial component to any Deck. As a result, people do their best to avoid discarding Spells whenever possible, and instead discard monsters and the occasional Trap. But since Reshef’s effect only accepts Spells, any possibility it had of being used outside a literal Control Deck or a casual Deck went down the drain.

Advanced: 2.5/5. It gets points for effort and an adequate ATK, but fails miserably when in the presence of Snatch Steal, Creature Swap, Enemy Controller, Mind Control, etc.
Traditional: 2/5. If you’ve got the actual Change of Heart available, why use this?
Overall: 2.25/5.
Art: 1/5. I’m really not digging the artwork so far this week…

Dark Paladin Reshef the Dark Being
Level 8
Light
Fined-Effect

Discard 1 Spell from your hand to take control of 1 monster on your opponents side of the field until the End Phase. You can only use this effect once per turn.

Well, let's go over a few things.

Light = food for the Soldier
2500 attack is decent enough to hold it's own, but a bit low for a Level 8 Ritual Rituals have NEVER really been popular, but I actually like them Fiend = Necrofear food

Even with Brain Control in this set, a built in Change of Heart is sexy like whOa! I'm just glad I pulled an Ultra one of these pups (on accounts of I hate Ultimate Rares). In my mind, simply for the effect of a Change of Heart every turn, this Ritual Monster may actually be worth using.

Like yesterdays card, Reshef does need his deck to work properly, but he'd be absolutely amazing. You should always have a Spell you can discard to use the effect, which does kinda stink that it isn't ANY card, but I guess as I like to say ALL mosnters need a downside.

Just for fun, I'm going to put out that LIGHT monsters should not be FIENDS but oh well.
