Kozaky’s Self-Destruct Button
Kozaky’s Self-Destruct Button is a very interesting
Trap Card, most notably so because it’s one of three
(I think) that still work when Jinzo is on the field
(the other two being Dark Coffin and Statue of the
Wicked). This card’s effect will only activate when
it’s face-down and destroyed by a card effect. If
your opponent plays Heavy Storm when you have this
set, he’ll take 1000 damage. If he destroys it with
Mobius, he takes 1000 damage. If he targets it with
MST, he takes 1000 damage.
It’s also interesting to note that even if your
opponent destroys this the same turn you set It,
with a Dust Tornado or something, he’ll still take
1000 damage, an unpleasantly rentsy surprise.
For all the good, there’s also some bad. This card
is completely useless if your opponent doesn’t run
Spell/Trap removal, and it’s also worthless if your
opponent simply doesn’t use any while you have it
set. That notwithstanding, if you set this early on,
chances are your opponent will try to destroy it at
some point, especially if he knows you’re running
Burn. 1000 damage isn’t insignificant, but unless
it’s late in the game, it’s also unlikely to be
game-breaking.
I’d run this as a bluff card in a Burner, perhaps in
the Side Deck for after your opponent puts in a
bunch of Mobii and Dust Tornadoes to counter the
Burn.

Kozaky's Self-Destruct Button
This card might actually see play in the side deck,
but I doubt it.
Kozaky's is like the old Statue of the Wicked -- it
activates in the graveyard, you don't trigger it
yourself. This gives it Jinzo immunity, which isn't
bad at all. If the opponent is unlucky enough to hit
this with MST or Heavy Storm, they take 1,000
damage.
1,000 damage ON ITS OWN isn't a big deal. If it was,
we wouldn't be playing Delinquent Duo and Premature
Burial. If you're looking to do serious damage with
a single burn card, just run Wave-Motion Cannon.
This way, either you deal a huge chunk of damage, or
draw M/T removal away from that set Mirror Force.
(To our readers: Thanks for pointing out that this
doesn't combo with Last Turn because Last Turn
doesn't "destroy". This is what I get for doing
CotDs right before I head out the door.)

Kozaky's Self-Destruct Button
Inflict 1000 points of damage to the Life Points of
the player who destroyed this Set card.
This can backfire. There are better Burn cards.
Don't use this. I don't care if it fits into your
Kozaky-themed deck. This card
sucks.
Rating: 1/5 (*Grumbles again about not being able to
rate a card below
one*) |

Kozaky's Self-Destruct Button just plain sucks. I'm
sorry. Meteor of Destruction got a fairly poor
rating for being situational, but this is worse. I
really wish that something more… Productive could
have been a normal rare.
Why does it suck? Well, anti-burn sidedecks are less
and less oriented towards destroying the spells and
traps of burn (which are often chainable and capable
of doing as much damage as this and more, say,
Secret Barrel) and more towards stopping the damage
and destroying monsters. This is going to be pulled
off less and less, and the damage is
inconsequential. Not too good.
It can do something. It just doesn't do enough.

Kozaky’s Self-Destruct Button
Today’s card is Kozaky's Self-Destruct Button, a
Trap that [SPOOKY_VOICE]can never be activated[/SPOOKY_VOICE].
Kozaky's Self-Destruct Button is unique in that it [SPOOKY_VOICE]can
never be activated[/SPOOKY_VOICE] (whoa; déjà vu).
Because it can never be activated, it can’t be
negated by the lies of Jinzo… Royal Decree… other
cards I’m probably forgetting. What’s the effect you
ask? Hold your hoofed animals speedy. KSDB’s effect
comes into play in an easy to come by and easy to
enjoy manner; when it’s destroyed. When it’s
destroyed (whoa; déjà vu [whoa; déjà vu]) the player
who destroyed it loses 1000 Life Points. So if your
overly paranoid opponent uses the effect of Breaker,
MST, Heavy Strom, Mobius, Dust Tornado, Nobleman of
Extermination, Greenkappa, Chiron, Fuh-Rin-Ka-Zan,
or that of many other cards to destroy KSDB, they
lose 1000 Life Points.
Of course, THEY don’t need to destroy it; you’ve got
some of the aforementioned cards at your disposal.
So if YOU want to lose 1000 Life Points, feel free
to use Breaker, MST, Heavy Strom, Mobius, Nobleman
of Extermination, Greenkappa, or a similar card that
can destroy KSDB. Why would you want to do that? How
should I know? I didn’t come up with the idea; you
did. You may quite possibly be using Barrel Behind
the Door, which most likely works with KSDB. Maybe
you’re using a Last Turn Deck, in which case you’d
be bringing yourself closer to victory. It’s all up
to you. Sleep deprived statements aside, KSDB is a
neat Trap that could add an extra flare to Burn
Decks that need a bright side to all the S/T
destruction they face.
Advanced: 4/5. All you need to do is wait.
Everybody.
Traditional: 4/5. You’ll fall patiently in love with
Harpie’s Feather Duster. Of this I am sure.
Overall: 4/5.
Art: 1.5/5. It’s Name That Monster Time! I see a
monster… whose name I can’t come up with… It appears
as though it owns a Self-Destruct Button… Hm… Mokey
Mokey maybe?

Unlike the previous two cards this week, Kozaky's
Self-Destruct Button can actually see play in a
competitive burn deck, well, not in the main deck.
The main use out of the Self-Destruct Button is its
ability to be your best response to a side decking
maniac when you're playing stall/burn (preferably
Lava Stall). Oh gee, Mr. Duelist. You're side
decking in three copies of Mobius. Oh woe is me. I
guess my Self-Destruct Buttons are going to be
destroyed pretty quickly, I'm sad now. :(
Granted, Dark Coffin is SO much better than this
card, and it's not even that great. It can at least
hurt your opponent if you destroy it, whereas this
button trap hurts you if you destroy it. Oh well.
In limited, you should be ANGRY when you pull this
card, or you should be very happy if you're passing
it to somebody in a draft as their last card.
They'll be mad as hell that you gave them something
bad, but hey, you can take satisfaction in knowing
you got something more playable, like Elemental Hero
Thunder Giant. (hahaha- just kidding. Neither are
all that playable in any format. ;P )
Traditional: 1/5
Advanced: 2/5
Limited: 1/5 (I'd go into negatives here, but it's a
rule to give a card the minimum score of 1)

Kozaky's Self Destruct Button
Normal Trap
Effect: Inflict 1000 points of damage to the player
who destroyed this set card.
This is a very very odd card in the fact you only
get the effect if the card is destroyed while face
down...plus, if you keep it down too long without
your opponent destroying it, you may find yourself
destroying to take care of something your opponent
has.
Then bam...you've taken 1000 damage, and that isn't
good. However, you could always get lucky and hope
your opponent has their MST or Heavy Storm (or
Harpie's Feather Duster in Traditional) to destroy
your pressure Trap Card for that delicious 1000
damage.
The only thing I really like about this thing is
that it's incredibly risky.
Sure, it's only 1000 damage, but your opponent HAS
to destroy it or it doesn't work for you. Maybe it's
just me, but it seems like a chance card Joey
Wheeler would use, just no Die or Coin...

Traditional: 1.5/5
Traditional Joey Wheeler: 5/5
Advanced: 2.0/5

Art: 2.5/5 Not great either.
