Master Monk
Master Monk’s a fairly rentsy monster. He only has
1900 ATK and he has the unfortunate handicap of
being a nomi. That aside, he has the advantage of
being able to attack twice per turn.
To summon Master Monk you sacrifice a Monk Fighter.
That counts as a Special Summon, so you can summon
Monk Fighter, then tribute it in the same turn,
making it relatively easy to get Master Monk onto
the field. If you can attack on an open field,
you’ll do 3800 damage per turn – adding equips only
makes it sweeter.
There’s not much more to say about Master Monk. He’s
useless without Monk Fighter and worthless in a
regular tournament deck, but in his own deck
(perhaps coupled with other offensive EARTH
monsters, like Enraged Battle Ox), he can be quite
effective.

Master Monk
Meh...
It's not horrible, honestly. Basically you're
putting out 2 cards from your hand (the Monk Fighter
and this) to get a 1900 double attacker. However,
hand advantage is pretty much everything; always was
and always will be. Putting out 2 cards for that is
just a bad idea. Want 2 cards that give you a
high-powered double attacker? Try Mataza the Zapper
and United We Stand. Instead of having 2 cards that
need each other exclusively, and one being dead
without the other, you have extra offense against
Scapegoats and other lower monsters, and anti-Snatch
Steal/Brain Control at the same time.
Sorry, but just like yesterday, we already have a
better, less restricting combination.

Welcome back to Pojo's CotD! Because of what
happened last time, I would like to apologize to all
blind people and children.
Master Monk. This card is currently third-highest
for ATK on the list of monsters that have built-in
effects allowing them to attack twice. After that,
though, the card is useless. It's nomi. What does
that say? That says it had better be freaking ten
times as good as Horus LV8 to see any play at all.
But it isn't. So we don't play it.
It forces you to lose 1 card advantage to play it.
This can be summoned first turn, of course. But then
again, who cares?
The attack twice effect, though useful, can be
achieved to the same effect (and better!) with just
as many cards (AND STILL ON TURN 1!). Here, it isn't
that hard. Mataza the Zapper + Axe of Despair.
That's 2300 with attacking twice AND control of the
card cannot change. And all you needed was a Normal
Rare and a common from a Starter deck! INCREDIBLE!
Don't play this card. This week doesn't get good
until, say, next Monday. I'm joking, of course.
You would never play this card outside of its own
deck. No rating.

Master Monk
Today’s card is Master Monk, a good attempt to
strengthen Rocks, but is
really no more than an attempt.
MM would have a good ATK is he was a Level 4
monster. But since he’s a Level
5, good doesn’t quite fit. 1900 ATK requires a
demigodly effect, which the
Fates tell may is not the case. As has already been
said, he’s a Rock
monster. Also as has already been said (well, a few
days ago anyway) the
Rock-Type lacks Type support. As if MM couldn’t get
any worse, he’s a Nomi
monster, which is an unforgivable sin in my eyes
unless the monster pays
well. But, you know, the fates tell me…
MM can only be Special Summoned by Tributing a Monk
Fighter on your side of
the field, which is, by comparison, a better
monster. Once on the field, MM
can attack twice every turn. Yep, you heard right;
the 1900 ATK Nomi only
does nothing but mimic the likes of Hayabusa Knight
and Mataza the Zapper.
Already, I deem MM unworthy of any competitive use
as you could simply give
a Mataza a Malevolent Nuzzler and have a better
monster all around than MM.
But in a Monk Deck where you could be using Kaminote
Blow, Legendary Black
Belt, and Lone Wolf, MAYBE MM would be useful.
Still, there’s just too much
working against him if you ask me.
Advanced (Monk Deck): 3.5/5. Lone Wolf is probably
the most useful card to
use with MM, as it spares him from death at the
hands of the opponent, which
kind of makes his Nominess more bearable.
Traditional (Monk Deck): 3.5/5. See Advanced.
Overall (Monk Deck): 3.5/5.
Art: 3/5. I didn’t know monks knew karate…

Master Monk WANTS to be played. It’s a
double-attacker with a decent ATK, and it has a nice
set of support behind it (namely Lone Wolf. Did I
mention that’s their best support card?). However,
the fact that it’s a nomi monster, and the fact that
it still gets smashed by any other high-level
monster (sans Parshath) and Berserk Gorilla out
there, limits this card’s play to casual only. Do
not play this monk in traditional, and it’s not even
noteworthy in advanced, though Lone Wolf makes it
immune to some nice card effects. Even then, Monk
Fighter is infinitely better simply because he’s a
viable form of stall. This monk isn’t a viable form
of stall.
In limited, he’s a bomb. If you pull one in sealed,
play him and all your monk support. If he’s in a
pack you’re drafting, immediately slap it face-down
in front of you and pass your pack to the next
person. You’ll probably win today’s limited event if
you got two Lone Wolfs and the Monk Fighters.

Master Monk
Earth
Rock/Effect
1900-1000
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This
card can only be Special Summoned by Tribuing one
Monk Fighter on your side of the field. This card
can attack twice in the same Battle Phase.
Well, The Lost Millenium brings us many craptacular
Rock Monsters, but this one is toward the bottom of
the list. Two 1900 attacks from the same monster,
let alone one who requires a VERY specific tribute
isn't worth it at all. Perhaps had he more attack,
say 2400 or so, it might MIGHT have been worth it.
However, if you're running a Monk deck for some
reason, then by all means, run it.
Ratings:
1/5 Across the board (general)
4.0/5 Traditional Monk Deck
4.5/5 Advanced Monk Deck
Art: 3.0/5 Meh...
You stay classy, Planet Earth :)
