Sage Keiroon is the best normal rare from FET, and I think others would agree.

EARTH is good. It's coming to the point where EARTH is becoming better than the other Attributes. Look at the average deck for proof.

1800/1000 is fairly good. Beast-Warrior is meritorious as well; gets some help from Enraged Battle Ox.

The effect is where we see this guy's real merit. Turning any spell in your hand into a Mystical Space Typhoon once a turn is nice. Lord knows a useless Nobleman, Creature Swap or Enemy Controller isn't an odd thing.

If you have one, sidedeck it. Don't go insane hunting 'em down, but try it out every once in a while if you need more removal in your deck.

ExMinion OfDarkness Chiron the Mage

Now we move on to the most playable rare of FET.

Earth is just meh...but Beast-Warrior gives him Trample when paired with Enraged Battle Ox; not a bad deal. His 1800 attack is more than respectable, and is more than the Breaker has after he's spent his counter.

Sadly, the discard is restricted to a spell card -- but against a Stall/Burn, you're probably going to have a lot of cards you can't use that you wish could kill M/Ts. In the end, that's not a bad trade-off. Just hope they don't end up chaining the M/T every time you use the effect, or else you'll be in a bad situation with cards in hand.

However, I'll go as far as to say he's side-deck staple, and maining 1 really can't hurt despite the non-chaos non-warrior type.

4/5 (-1 for hand disadvantage)

Snapper  Chiron the Mage

Today’s card is Chiron the Mage, a Breaker the Magical Warrior for Beast Decks.

Chiron has excellent stats; with 1800 ATK he can destroy numerous popular monsters and also defend against everything save your average beatstick. And as a Beast-Warrior Chiron gains a Trample ability when Enraged Battle Ox is on the field. In addition to ideal stats for a Beast Deck, Chiron comes with an effect that will make him a Staple for all Decks focused on the animal kingdom; S/T Destruction.

At the price of discarding a Spell Card from your hand, Chiron can destroy one Spell or Trap on your opponent’s side of the field. At first glance the effect seems kind of “iffy”; discarding Spells is never something to look forward to. Yet in Chiron’s case, the pros seem to outweigh the cons. While you may be forfeiting a Nobleman of Crossout or a Smashing Ground, think of the potential outcome. For that single Spell you could be ridding the field of an opponent’s Snatch Steal, Mirror Force, Premature Burial, or Bottomless Trap Hole, all of which are cards that would only help the opponent. While there is also a chance that you could be destroying a chainable card such as MST, Ring of Destruction, or CEDevice, that shouldn’t discourage you from using this effect.

The only real downside to Chiron’s effect is that the effect can only be used once per turn. In retrospect however that isn’t so bad. While you can’t get rid of 5 cards in one turn, you do get an excuse to regroup, leaving the opponent wondering if you’ll be able to use the effect during your next turn and possibly causing them to hesitate from using more S/Ts. With all that said, Chiron is a monster that could work well in any Deck. While I would advise saving him for Beast Decks (where you should be running at least 1) I can’t stop you from using this as a Breaker replacement.

Advanced: 4/5. In reality Chiron’s around 3.8 due to the Spell discard, but he gets an extra .2 for effort.
Traditional: 3/5. Yata and Harpie’s Feather Duster = few uses for Chiron.
Overall: 3.5/5.
Art: 4/5. I’ve always found Centaurs to be the oddest looking of the mythical creatures…

Tranorix

Chiron the Mage

Chiron the Mage is a very nice monster.  1800 ATK is definitely strong enough for a Level 4 (though not the best), and being EARTH gives him extra viability in those decks.  His effect is just nice.

Discard a Spell (can hurt, true) and destroy a Spell or Trap on the field.  Get rid of a Spell you don’t need to destroy one that could hurt you.  Chiron is essentially a reusable Breaker; he’s a powerful monster that is capable of doubling as S/T removal; his effect might as well read that you’re allowed to turn any Spell in your hand into a Mystical Space Typhoon for the turn.

It’s a simple effect, but it’s good.  Chiron can do well in many decks, more or less any offensive-minded one; but he’ll really shine in EARTH Decks, as in addition to being a respectable beatstick on his own, he’s removal.  I’d at least side deck this guy to take out Burners.

Dark Paladin Chiron the Mage
1800-1000
Beast-Warrior/Earth
Level 4

For those of you who watch the anime, you know Noah used this card in the Virtual World arc in his duel against Kaiba to destroy his Crush Card.

Now, for most of this review, I'm going to compare this card to Breaker the Magical Warrior.

Breaker has 1900 attack points when summoned Chiron has 1800 attack points when summoned

Round 1 to Breaker

Breaker only has to discard his counter to use his effect Chiron has to discard a Spell to use his effect

Round 2 to Breaker

Breaker falls to 1600 attack after using his effect Chiron stays at 1800 attack after using his effect

Round 3 to Chiron

Breaker is DARK
Chiron is EARTH

Round 4 to Breaker

So, even though you can (generally) only use Breaker's effect once, Chiron isn't as good. The reason being, even though his effect can be used multiple times, discarding a Spell can REALLY hurt you.

Odds are, you'll need that Spell later. However, it could be good if you have something stong on the field for the win and your opponent just has a Mirror Force down.

Also, even though decks are roughly 50% Spells, you may not have one in your hand to use the effect.

Conclusion: Good effect with a not so good cost.

Traditional: 2/5
Advanced: 2.75/5
Limited: 3.25/5

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)
