Needle Ceiling
Needle Ceiling's been overlooked for a fairly long
time. One fan took some major initiative in getting
this card up...and although I don't typically agree
with his methods of doing so, we had nothing planned
for this week.
Needle Ceiling counters a few key things. In
Traditional, you usually wouldn't get to activate
this card, but in Advanced Format, it's a lot more
common for there to be 4 or more monsters on the
field. Activated Scapegoat = trigger for this card.
Swarming occurs more in Advanced, so even without
Goats you might have a chance to use this.
Best-case scenario: You have a face-down, opponent
has one monster on the field already. Opponent
summons something, then special summons BLS. They
have 3 monsters on the field, you have one. This
gets triggered...and remember, it only desstroys
face-UP monsters, so your face-down is still safe
(unless they activated priority to RFG with BLS, in
which case you still come out ahead by getting rid
of 3 of their monsters.)
Just side one. It might help you.

Advanced: 3.25/5 |

Needle Ceiling, a fan request from a fan with too
much initiative.
So we come to a simple but powerful trap from
Pharaonic Guardian. Basically, this thing is a field
clearer. I've used it effectively at times, and
here's what I've noticed.
1 – It loves Scapegoat. Whether they use it or you
do.
2 – It's easy to let your opponent overextend his
field without taking any damage.
3 – This card is a godsend for quite a few stall
decks.
That's about all. The trigger is huge, and unless
they're losing at least one more monster, it's not
worth it at all. A fairly good card in the right
deck, but I can't think of a place to put it. I
apologize for the shoddy review.

Needle Ceiling
Today’s card is an interesting one, really only
interesting because it’s so overlooked. Needle
Ceiling is a Normal (chainable) Trap that you can
activate as long as there are four or more monsters
on the field (this includes both sides of the
field).
Then all face-up monsters will be destroyed.
Obviously the best case scenario here would be if
you somehow had five monsters face-down and your
opponent five face-up. That’s not going to happen
too often…but you could conceivably gain massive
field advantage with this card.
Of course there are drawbacks: it’s a dead draw at
some points, etc, etc; but really, it’s something to
consider for any deck that runs a lot of monsters
that are usually face-down (Stealth Bird would like
this, as would Des Lacooda, Swarms of Scarabs and
Locusts…). Keep in mind that face-down monsters DO
count toward the four monsters required on the
field; they just won’t be destroyed.
Traditional – CCCC: 3/5
Traditional – Flip Down, Flip Up Deck: 4/5

Advanced – Flip Down, Flip Up Deck: 4.5/5

Needle Ceiling
Today’s card is Needle Ceiling, a Trap that can
serve as a replacement for Dark Hole.
NC can only be activated when there are at least
four monsters on the field (face-up and face-down).
If this requirement is met, NC will destroy all
face-up monsters on the field. The effect is in a
way a mix of Dark Hole and Lightning Vortex. NC’s
similarities to Dark Hole should be obvious; mass
destruction on both sides of the field. Its likeness
to Lightning Vortex may also be apparent in that it
only destroys known monsters, and face-down threats
are left unscathed. This is one of the problems NC
faces; because it can’t destroy face-down monsters,
NC prove a waste of a Trap should it be activated.
This is tied in to another of NC’s problems, which
is most players’
reluctantly to have many monsters on the field at
the same time. At most, the average duelist will
summon two monsters and save the remainder of their
creatures until there is a vacancy on the field. So,
if both players don’t exceed the two monster
“limit”, NC will cause both players to lose an equal
amount of monsters. Of course that’s assuming that
all monsters on the field are face-up; if a player
has a face-down monster then they will benefit from
NC’s effect.
These negative points of NC call for a few combos:
Scapegoat can quickly fulfill NC’s activation
requirement, taking away all the opponent’s monsters
at the price of a single Spell (assuming you had nom
face-up monsters).
Ojama Trio can serve a similar purpose when used in
conjuction with NC by quickly increasing the number
of monster on the field, but also taking away 900
Life Points form the opponent. Overall, NC is a card
that that could even out the playing field very
easily. Whether the outcome would be beneficial
however, is up to you.
Advanced: 3/5. It could be useful…
Traditional: 1.5/5. It’s VERY uncommon for there to
be four monsters on the field at the same time, and
even then Dark Hole would be better.
Overall: 2.25/5.
Art: 1.5/5. It doesn’t look very interesting; just a
bald guy staring at a ceiling with needles in it. |

Needle Ceiling
Normal Trap
Effect: You can only activate this card when there
are four or more monsters on the field. Destroy all
face up monsters on the field.
In my opinion, this card is like a very very watered
down version of Torrential Tribute. I suppose it
would be good to use if somehow your opponent was
able to get those 4 monsters against you. It would
set you up for a direct attack since you would
obviously have no monsters yourself.
In that sense, this card could be a game-winner but
who needs to use such a card? Either you're giving
up several of your monsters or a combination of
yours and your opponents which isn't necesarily bad,
but the card is also a trap making it worthless
against Jinzo and even Royal Decree.
However, the card isn't completely useless, just the
face that it's requirement holds it down. I mean,
you need 4 monsters on the field, plus, you may not
even be destroying ALL monsters on the field because
the card states all face up monsters.
Ratings:
Traditional: 1.5/5 Not a good card, but not terrible
as I stated.
Advanced: 2.0/5
Art: 2.5/5 That poor man...
You stay classy, Planet Earth :) |

Needle Ceiling
is a normal Trap. So long as you have the
activation requirements met, you can chain this
at will. Unfortunately, its activation
requirements aren’t as easy to meet as, say,
Ring of Destruction. If there are four or
more Monsters in play, you can activate this
Trap to destroy all face-up Monsters. This
makes it fairly decent anti-Swarm tactic, and
can be used to get rid of pesky opposing
Scapegoat tokens. Quite a nice combo with
Ojama Trio: give them three tokens (which
count as face up Monsters), hopefully when they
themselves have one face up Monster, then nuke
them all, clearing the field and doing 900
points of burn damage. In some ways, it is
better than Torrential Tribute; your Set
Monsters are spared. Another nice trick is to
use a Book of Moon to flip one of your
face-up Monsters face down, sparing it. Be
aware that an opponent can do the same thing.
All in all a solid card… if you have the room.
Ratings
Traditional :
1/5-Rarely will there be that many Monsters on
the field.
Advanced :
3/5-Decent side-deck measure if you have the
room, maybe even main.
Limited :
4/5-It seems a great pull here. It will easily
turn the tables easily should you get behind.
