Spell Shield Type-8
THIS CARD HAS AN ERRATUM. THIS CARD HAS AN ERRATUM.
THIS CARD HAS AN ERRATUM.
For those of you who think this is just a pumped up
Magic Jammer, think again! Spell Shield Type-8
requires that you discard a SPELL card to negate
Spells, not any card you want. This hurts its
playability.
That said, it’s still decent. You can negate Snatch
Steal, Nobleman of Crossout, and Brain Control for
free (keep in mind that Smashing Ground, Fissure,
Dark Hole, etc. do NOT target). You can negate any
other Spell too (except rentsy things like
Spiritualism), but you have to discard a Spell in
return, which hurts card advantage.
Should you run it? I’d personally stick with Magic
Jammer or Magic Drain, or even Curse of Darkness.
But if targeting Spells are big by you…sure, give
Spell Shield Type-8 a try. It might be good in the
seldom seen “Almost All Trap” Deck.

Spell-Shield Type 8
This is another one of those "almost there, but
didn't quite make it" cards.
It's a really weird Magic Jammer...no discard if
the spell being activated targets a monster
specifically, but a SPELL CARD discard if it's
anything else.
The problem is despite how many cards target
monsters, the new Advanced isn't seeing as many
as needed for this to see play beyond either
tech or a really well built stall. It has a few
cards it can stop in the standard cookie-cutter
without a discard: Nobleman, Snatch Steal, Book
of Moon, and Enemy Controllers.
If Smashing Grounds targeted this would be in
every deck ever. So as of now it's situational
at best -- and with drawpower so short in this
format you really don't want to be giving up a
card, let alone a SPELL card, to do a 1 for 2.
1/5 Traditional
3/5 Advanced cookie-cutter
4/5 Advanced Stall

Spell-Shield Type 8 should be a joke review.
This card was good for decks that wanted an answer
to the 2x Nobleman of Crossout everyone and their
mom (Hi Lynn!) played, but now there's not so much a
point to it. 2x Nobleman has evolved into Nobleman,
Drillroid, and Mystic Swordsman LV2.
SST8 isn't even as good as Magic Jammer in some
regards. The errata to it means that you have to
give up a crucial Magic to go about with your life,
making this negative card advantage… But I will say
one thing. This card is becoming better and better
to play randomly teched in. Prior to this format,
the common deck played Snatch Steal and two
Nobleman, making this card positively crap against
over 37 cards in a deck. Now we have some more stuff
to go around. Snatch Steal always ended games
beforehand, now it does an even better job thanks to
heavy aggro. I mean, it's easy now to summon Cyber
Dragon, summon a D. D. Assailant and Snatch Steal a
Drillroid or something to hit for 5000+. Brain
Control fills the same position for one turn, and
it's more of an indicator that the monster is going
to be Tributed off anyway for a Mobius, causing MORE
pain. Nobleman hurts too.
Your LP score has actually become something other
than a resource in this format to help pay for
cards. Your LP has become something to protect. I
love the format.
And the three cards that target are now much more of
a liability. Nobleman leaves a clear field where
otherwise you might have had defense to work with.
Snatch leaves you with -1 disadvantage for perhaps
the rest of the duel, and is at least a reliable 1
for 1. Brain Control frequently ends games where the
loser has complete card advantage and seems to have
control over everything but the luck aspect of the
game.
That makes it less bad. That doesn't, however, make
it better than Magic Drain or even worth a random
tech slot.

Dark Paladin |
Spell Shield Type-8 is our card for today, and one I
see (at least in my area here in Michigan) popping
up. Not necessarily so much in main-decks, but in
side-decks.
Spell Shield Type-8 has two effects. Upon being a
counter trap, which is good, the first effect
negates and destroys a spell that specifically
targets one monster on the field. This is good,
especially since the card doesn't specify face up or
face down monster.
The second effect is also good, but requires a minor
cost. By discarding one card from your hand, you can
destroy one spell card and negate the activation. Is
that important? Well, we have Dark Hole back, and
negating that would sure shock your opponent,
wouldn't it.
As stated, this card may be more of a side-deck
choice, but go ahead and try one, you may be
pleasantly surprised.

Satisfaction |
Spell Shield Type-8 is a counter trap card that has
versatility for
once. Many trap cards don't have two effects or
options but Spell
Shield Type-8 does.
For one, if your opponent designates a monster on
the field with a
magic card you can negate it, cards like Snatch
Steal, Tribute to the
Doomed, Nobleman of Crossout, and also Rush
Recklessly.
Sure a little situational but thats were the second
effect comes in.
Two, if a magic card activates you can send 1 magic
card from your
hand to negate that magic card. Yes, I did say magic
card to discard
from your hand, new changes on cards like Spell
Shield Type-8 always
makes us happy, anyways. This effect is less
situational, magic cards
are about one third of your opponent's deck and
always suppling the
quickest way to one for one or gain card advantage.
But a two for
one, please, there are cards like Magic Jammer that
is some what
better than Spell Shield Type-8 because you can
discard a monster,
always better.
Less designating cards are being played and the
first effect is
great, but the not so good effect is Spell Shield
Type-8's second
effect. Some other good reasons to play this card is
because it is a
counter, counter things with out being Royal Decreed
or countering
Limiter Removal for Cyber Stein. This card can work
but if you are
going to play magic negation this is not the best.
