Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Goblin Elite Attack Force
Super Rare

If this card attacks, it is changed to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase. This card's battle position cannot be changed until the end of your next turn, except with a card effect.

Type - Fiend/Effect
Card Number - CRV-EN020

Card Ratings
Traditional: 2.4
Advanced: 3.37

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale 1 being the worst.
3 ... average. 5 is the highest rating.

Lord
Tranorix
Goblin Elite Attack Force

This is Giant Orc with better DEF. 2200 ATK is great for a Level 4 monster (especially now, with all those Cyber Dragons running around). 1500 DEF isn’t wonderful, but it’s certainly better than GAF and Orc’s 0.

This makes Fiend Decks a bit better. Whereas they used to rely on Giant Orc, now they can rely on this guy, who might NOT die for certain right after he attacks.

It’s a pretty basic effect and a pretty straightforward monster. Worthwhile in regular decks? Maybe. Worthwhile in Fiend Decks? Definitely.

Fiend Deck: 4.5/5

ExMinion OfDarkness
Goblin Elite Attack Force

We suffered through Gilford yesterday and are rewarded with this.

GEAF should certainly be seeing more play, if nothing else but as a tech card against the current Toolbox.

He has a few downsides:
-100 less attack than Goblin Attack Force
-Not a Warrior so RotA can't search him
-Still that same horrible 2 turn wait before his next attack

...a few upsides:
-That 100 ATK usually doesn't really matter, I can't think of any monsters between 2200 and 2299 ATK that GEAF couldn't kill that GAF can that see play
-1500 DEF means that the opponent will actually have to rip something somewhat decent to get rid of him instead of poking it with a Spirit Reaper to kill it like GAF

...and one major reason to play it:
-It's a non-tribute that KILLS CYBER DRAGON and still stays on the field afterwards.

Seriously, expect GEAF use to go WAY up, proportionate to the Cyber Dragon use around you. Okay, go ahead and summon your Cyber Dragon + Reaper and hit my hand, next turn I play GEAF, kill the C-Dragon and the Reaper can't do crap.

You might want to hang onto one or two of these and pull them back out of your "crap trade bait" binders.

dawnyoshi Today’s card puts Giant Orc, and its users, to shame. I find this statement hilarious, because there is no such thing as a Giant Orc user. Laugh with me, everybody!

Unlike Giant Orc, which was a big bludgeoning object that could then be destroyed by a Magician of Faith, Goblin Elite Attack Force is a big bludgeoning object that can only be killed by typical attacking monsters. This fiend’s defense is high enough to survive assaults from Don Zaloog, as well as the attribute-tutor monsters (Mystic Tomato and Giant Rat). It’s also safe from other typical friends of Reinforcement of the Army, such as Mystic Swordsman LV2 and D. D. Warrior Lady (unless the Warrior Lady removes herself with the defense position Attack Force, which is a terrible play most of the time).

As a solid fiend monster, Goblin Elite Attack Force is actually GOOD in the advanced format. It’s not a great monster, as it’s still just a beating stick, but its muscle is solid and it actually adds some power to a theme deck! Granted, Slate Warrior is an all-around more useful monster for fiends, but it still lacks the muscle to punch through Zombyra the Dark and Cyber Dragon. The Elite Attack Force can punch through those dumb monsters, and it can survive attacks from monsters that shouldn’t destroy beatsticks in battle anyway. Of course, in traditional, who cares about muscle when you either want to blow up their hand or win on turn one? (It doesn’t matter anyway, since that format is always going to be hopeless)

Dark Paladin
To close out this week, we look at a card that I'm honestly surprised we haven't gotten around to reviewing yet. That would be Goblin Elite Attack Force (GEAF for short.)

GEAF is slightly weaker than its counterpart Goblin Attack Force, at 2200 but it has 1500 defense which is a huge step up from GAF.
Secondly, GEAF switches into defense after attacking, as does GAF but GEAF can switch modes by a card effect instead of waiting that turn.

So, Enemy Controller or even Zero Gravity can change him so he can attack again. GEAF will most likely be able to attack more than once, where GAF usually attacks once and is sent to the graveyard the following turn.

GEAF is also a fiend, making him beatdown for that deck, and also food for Dark Necrofear. Except in Warrior, go ahead and try this over GAF, but it's up to you.

Ratings:

Traditional: 3/5
Traditional Beatdown: 3.5/5
Traditional Dark Necrofear/Fiend: 4.5/5

Advanced: 3.5/5
Advanced Beatdown: 4.0/5
Advanced Dark Necrofear/Fiend: 5.0/5

Satisfaction
Goblin Elite Attack Force is great in this format, it even showed up in some top 8 decks at Chicago Shonen Jump Championship. You can tell this is going to be a good card of the day.

Well obviously Goblin Elite's attack is great, its above great. It is above Cyber Dragon which can make it a great counter, but what makes the day is it's defense. Sure it is not as big as it's attack but being a 1500 defense is the first in the Goblin family.

Goblin Elite can actually survive some monsters in defense. D.D.
Warrior Lady won't get rid of it unless it takes Elite out, which would be good if the Elite's owner killed a monster the turn before, yay two for one. Don Zaloog won't take a card from the hand with out a little help with Elite in the way. Mystic Tomatoes, Giant Rats, none of this will get through the simple defense of 1500.

Goblin Elite is a great top deck at times, I even heard a top deck of Goblin Elite in top 8 won the match. Goblin Elite is the best in sealed pack of it's box set because of it's powerful stats. But Goblin Elite is an Earth, not bad, but not the best. Lights and Darks are the best of the pick because of Chaos, and also the Mystic Tomato for the Darks.

Goblin Elite is an extremely versatile card in any deck, especially metagame counter. If you have room really consider this card, if you don't I would actually think about making room. Being huge in attack and great in defense for it's self isn't the world, don't get carried away, there are always many things to get rid of this card. Actually too many cards to say.

Don't get me wrong though, it is a very powerful card and a great top deck to consider.

Traditional: 3.0/5.0 (might work here)
Advanced: 4.0/5.0

Draft-Limited: 5.0/5.0

Coin Flip
I'm not going to give you a quality review today. I'm skeptical about this card. I was also skeptical about Gravekeeper's Spy as random tech before June, and then I tried it, and right after that, it became widespread and popular (not because of me, though :( ). I'm a skeptic. That means that I'm not a good source of random tech. That's giel's or Jae's department. (If you don't know who those are, you should read all of Jae's stuff still on this site, and some stuff that giel posts. He has fun decks.)

So when I tell you I don't like this card, it's because the card doesn't make sense for me. It's still easily killable. We ARE in a meta of 3x D. D. Assailant, 3x Cyber Dragon, Breaker…

But on the flip side, this card guarantees at least a 1 for 1 in that meta. If you run over a Cyber Dragon with this and then they kill it with Breaker, does it matter? You still killed one card. If you get a D. D. Assailant or D. D. Warrior Lady out of it too, all the better. It's possible that you'll have it live through by a Swords of Revealing Light or multiple Saku's, too. The reason I don't like it is because it's way too offensive. It's idyllically offensive. I'm offensively defensive. I let my opponent push, then I punish him for overextending or playing into a trap and go for victory after gaining card advantage. This card is just helping with a part of that plan I don't particularly need help with.

So it doesn't make sense for me. But good players are using it almost as much as they're not.

I give it props for that, but because I'm biased, I won't give it a number rating.
