Dark World Lightning
This is one of those cards that might see play
simply because of how it's worded and that it will
combo with Dark Realm stuff.
This kills one face-down card and forces you to
discard a card from your hand. (NOTE: I didn't say
costs, as it's not a cost, it's part of the effect.
So if it gets negated, you don't discard.) The key
to this card is combining it with one of the Dark
Realm monsters which would be Special Summoned to
the field when they're discarded by a card effect.
The optimum use here is getting rid of a face-down
spell or trap that's scaring you and then throwing a
strong Dark Realm monster onto the field with its
effect from the discard...
...but in the REAL world, people are going to slam
on this card for being a horrible topdeck. Games
often come down to topdecking fairly quickly not
only from hand discard (which the Realms help
against) but no Pot/Graceful to help add to/maintain
hand size.
You might see one of this in a pure Dark Realm deck,
maybe 2, but the standard cookie-cutter will just
run other cards most likely.

Dark World Lightning has combo written all over it.
Heck, our friends at UDE (Dan and Kevin) even had
that little tidbit written into its rulings. Quoted
directly from the rulings…
• Discarding 1 card is part of the effect of "Dark
World Lightning", it is not a cost. (So you can use
it to activate the effects of "Dark World" monsters,
for example.)
This was meant for the monsters of the Dark World.
No doubt.
This card, cited as one of the best ways of using
the monsters, inspires bad deckmaking. I've stated
before that the only monsters truly worth playing
out of that entire group are Broww, Goldd, and
Sillva. The rest are unrealistic. An 1800 that
allows you to discard a card from your hand? Right.
Battle Phase summoning and nothing else. When you
look at a monster for being a beatstick, you look at
its effect. Being able to discard a card from your
hand is an optional effect that will only ever be
useful if you have dead cards in your hand.
This gives you monster destruction or spell/trap
destruction. Up to you, really. But it's also a 2
for 1. Good players don't play Raigeki Break for a
reason. Even when Sinister Serpent was rampant and
Night Assailant completely unrestricted, they didn't
play Raigeki Break because the combo you're talking
about is still subpar. Phoenix Wing Wind Blast was
and is far better still.
This is the parallel. You get your choice of
destruction, and then you lose a card in hand. If
you use too many of Broww, Sillva or Goldd, you
invite bad draws. Broww is 1400 and a DARK/Fiend.
Right, you enjoy topdecking that. Sillva and Goldd
are both 2300 beasts that take a tribute or a
convoluted combo/intense lucksacking to get out.
On the flipside, if you don't use enough of the
cards you intend to combo with this card, you make
this a bad card (2 of your cards for their one).
Essentially, the player becomes trapped between two
bad ends of the card.
If I made a Dark World Deck, it would probably not
feature this card.
General: 1.3/5
Dark World: 2.9/5

Dark World Lightning...aka Raigeki Break is Spell
form...
Dark World Lightning is a very interesting Spell
card, and I have quite mixed feelings about it.
Obviously, being able to destroy one face down card
on the field is excellent. The card doesn't specify
(opponent) so it seems if you wanted, you could
destroy one of your own cards as well.
Secondly, you have to discard one card from you hand
to use Dark World Lightning, however, the discard
cost comes AFTER the effect of DWL has already been
carried out, which is...well, it's unique.
Dark World Lightning could be a new standard tech
card, and may be at least worthy of a side-deck
spot.
