ExMinion OfDarkness
Mirror Wall

This is the least cookie-cutter card we're looking at this week. But it CAN be cookie-cutter for certain scenarios.

The veterans of the game will all tell you that this card combos best with Don Zaloog and the other "when this card does battle damage to your opponent's LP..." effects. But seriously, pretty much used with Don and as a mini-Mirror Force (if you have a monster).

In the hand control "omg Don Zaloog + Spirit Reapers pwn" era, it's a great little trick that has some general uses (making their monster suicide) and combos far too well with Donny Z. But in a month or two, you'll have to think twice about making the opponent discard a card due to the Dark Realm stuff.

RJ RJ's first CoTD in a long time =]. Mirror Wall

Ahhh

Back to my CoTD's =]. Did you miss me? I know you did ;o

The cards for this week were picked by yours truly, and I think this will be the most informative week in a long time. So onto my review ;p.

Mirror Wall is a Continuous Trap Card, originally from PSV, but later reprinted in DB1. While it is a continuous trap, most use its effect just once, and skip the payment during standby, but that one time should be good enough to give you massive advantage if used correctly.

Mirror wall is a card that is best used in conjunction with Don Zaloog, Airknight Parshath, and Masked Sorcerer, or other cards that get their effects through battle damage, such as Mefist the Infernal General.

While it isn't chain able, it's a solid card and can shift the game in your favor drastically. Say you have a Don Zaloog in Attack position, and a face down Mirror Wall, your opponent summons Berserk Gorilla and Premature Burials Airknight Parshath, possibly reading a Widespread Ruin ;p. They hit with Gorilla, and you trigger Mirror Wall in the Damage Step (So he cant activate Book of Moon, Enemy Controller, Ring Of Destruction etc.), and they lose 2 resources(One card in hand with Don Zaloogs effect, and their Berserk Gorilla)!

Now say your opponent has nothing else, and is forced to end their turn, with the new rulings(I think they are new ;x), if you do pay the 2000 life points to keep Mirror Wall active, your opponents monsters that entered the battle step last turn when you activated Mirror Wall STILL have their attacks halved!

So that gives you the opportunity to wail on your opponents monster, stop their attacks next turn, and take away tons of his/her resources, all on one card and 2000 life points!

Of course, as with almost any unbanned card, it has its cons as well as its pros. Its cons include

1.) Unchain able

2.) Dead card with no support

3.) Horrible topdeck

Overall, a good player will utilize this card better, but don't be discouraged to give it a try if you are just an average player, use a build like

Airknight x2

Don x2

Masked Sorcerer

If you throw in some tomatoes, you have a ton of search ability, and if you go Rhymus Lizo and act like all you can pull with tomato is your last Don Zaloog, your opponent is sure to go ahead and attack it, getting straight up owned by Mirror Wall...Todays card =].

Constructed: 3.5/5. A solid pick if you have the correct build, Rush recklessly may be better for you though ;|.

Traditional: I don't specialize in Traditional, but I can assume it isn't that great here ;/.

Limited: mMm. Possibly a solid pick. No rating though ;x

Coin Flip
Mirror Wall is fun. Yesterday I ranted about Quick-Play Spells. Today I rant about Damage Step cards.

This card is unique in that you can activate it during the damage step. That's HUGE. I mean, the Damage Step is this holy period of time when monsters die and their last wishes are carried out, or their remains burst with majickal energies and the environm- what the hell am I talking about?!

It can be activated in Damage Step. Only Counter Traps and cards that alter ATK/DEF can be activated in the Damage Step (as well as select exceptions such as Sebek's Blessing and Numinous Healer). You can activate this in Damage Step without fear of them popping out a Mystical Space Typhoon or Book of Moon to save their monster. GG

Mirror Wall punishes people for attacking when they think they're going to kill a monster. Thanks for running your Blade Knight into my Don Zaloog. Except I'll kill your Blade Knight and take a card from your hand. Okay, thanks. :)

It's also predictable. If you're going to use this, use it WELL. I hate seeing people popping out Zaloogs in ATK position turn 1 and setting this as though they're the smartest people alive. It's predictable, friend.

Use it with monsters that give you good stuff when they destroy a monster/do battle damage.

General: 3.2/5

Dark Paladin
Today we look at a card that's a favorite of Mai Valentine, and no, it's obviously NOT Harpie's Feather Duster. It is Mirror Wall, a trap I don't really care for.

The Good:

Decreases the attack of any opponent's attacking monster by half

The Bad:

Costs 2000 lifepoints PER turn to keep on the field

More Good:

One free turn, I guess, if activated during the opponent's turn.

More Bad:

Continuous Trap
Did I mention the 2000 lifepoint cost????

2000 lifepoints is a hell of a lot, 25% of your points to be exact, and unless you are horribly desperate, or play a dedicated Mai/Harpie deck, it's far too many points to give up in a turn.

However, trying to be positive there may be a deck that this could be used in. PERHAPS...perhaps in a well constructed Fire Princess burn if your points got high enough that it outweighs the cost, but even then, it's a stretch.

Ratings:

Traditional: 1.5/5 It does stuff, but the cost...THE COST!
Traditional Mai themed deck: 2.0/5
Traditional Side-deck: 2.5/5

Advanced: 2.0/5 The cost...AGAIN WITH THE COST!
Advanced Mai themed deck: 2.5/5
Advanced Side-deck: 3.0/5

Art: The Super Rare art from PSV is cool: 3/5

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)
