Airknight Parshath
Airknight used to be a great monster. Now he’s even
better, thanks to the loss of Pot of Greed and
Graceful Charity. Our main drawing cards are gone –
the burden now rests on Airknight’s 1900 ATK
shoulders.
He’s fairly weak for a Level 5, what with only
having 1900 ATK; but he does Metamorphose into
Balter. He also falls victim to Cyber Dragon, seen
frequently nowadays. And with Scapegoat restricted,
he’s less likely to run into Sheep Tokens.
That aside, he’s still great. The piercing effect
can be a rentsy surprise factor and the potential to
gain card advantage via drawing is awesome. In a
Control Deck, he works well; but in a Piercing Deck,
he’s even better…since more stuff is likely to be in
DEF.

Airknight Parshath
Looks like Airknight's not dead either, despite the
reduced number of Goats for him to trample through.
I honestly don't think he's AS good; either that, or
he won't be once people start running the
cookie-cutter deck of the format (multiple Cybers/DDAs).
Cyber just laughs at it, and DDA gets beaten and the
opponent gets a draw, but the opponent loses their
Airknight (so they lose the Airknight + the monster
they Tributed but gain a card, 1 card down, to get
rid of your DDA, so it's an even trade.) He DOES
have his bright spots though -- he really punishes
Spirit Reapers, which I expect to be fairly popular
to hold off super-aggressive opponents.
Two things to remember:
1. Card drawing wins games, and with less card draw
with the Trinity gone, the draw we have left is even
more important.
2. The SJC winner ran 2. Whether or not that's
actually a good thing won't matter to the hordes of
players going to copy his deck, so be prepared to
deal with them -- if nothing else than to help get
Chaos Sorcerer out as eluded to yesterday.

Airknight Parshath should not be good in the new
format. Consider this: it's a 1900 TRIBUTE MONSTER
in a format chock full of removal and Cyber Dragons,
as well as D. D. Assailants. Summoning it is no
longer as rewarding as it once was. Now, the pattern
should follow as such: Tribute for Airknight (-1),
kill a DDA, DDWL, or Newdoria (0, -1), draw a card
(1). If you don't hit a Sakuretsu Armor or one of
the three monsters I just mentioned, then you've
done well… Until it gets Brain Controlled from you
and you die miserably as they attack and then
Tribute it off for a Mobius or whatever.
It's too hard to predict what is going to be good or
bad in the new format. The supreme inconsistency in
people's opinions is the result of a metagame chock
full of odd, strange ideas and metagame calls, many
of which have nothing but theory backing them up.
Airknight Parshath saw two copies played at SJC
Atlanta, both of which were in the winner's deck. I
could be wrong, and Airknight Parshath could be one
of the best possible cards to play in the new
format.
But my opinion remains that there are better cards
to use and better engines to use than Airknight
Parshath. I will congratulate John Jenson for a good
deck and some skillful playing, but I still don't
trust Parshy's abilities in the new format.

Airknight Parshath was considered to be a tribute
monster that lost playability in this new advanced
format due to the power of Cyber Dragon and Mobius
the Frost Monarch. In reality, this card has
actually become stronger.
Airknight Parshath is a royal powerhouse right now
for controlling decks, especially due to the
popularity of Spirit Reaper. This card still
punishes players for randomly running 1 copy of
Scapegoat in their deck. You know, those players
that only run one Scapegoat and no copies of
Metamorphosis, Enemy Controller, or Cannon Soldier.
It’s only fair they get smacked by a Centaur-ish
angelic creature. Oh, and you draw cards off of
Airknight as well. Yeah, that’s especially powerful
in this format, since the two major card drawing
spells were banned.
In traditional, you probably won’t have the time to
summon this card against hand control, and you lose
before this hit’s the field against combo decks. Oh
well. This format’s a hopeless situation anyway. In
limited, Parshath destroys most level four monsters
that could stand up to it, and you are making your
sealed deck more consistent. This is easily a top
pick.

Dark Paladin |
This week gets easier and easier for me as I just
reviewed this card about a month and a half ago for
a reviewer's choice, but I'll expand here a bit.
I won't bore you with the stats and effect, on
accounts of everyone already knows that. This card
is great in beatdown adding speed to the deck, and
it's also God in a trample deck. Those of you who
know me know I love trample.
1900 isn't quite as strong as I'd like Airknight to
be but he is such a great card. Built in trample is
great, even for a 1900 attack tribute monster. If
that weren't enough, you get to draw one card each
time Airknight does damage.
Airknight combos well with power-ups obviously to do
more damage, as 1900 doesn't destroy everything. Try
comboing United We Stand, Mage Power, or Cestus of
Dogma for a nice addition.
Hand Management is everything in this game,
especially in Traditional with Yata still looming
around. Also, in case anyone forgot, Airknight IS a
Fairy giving him an excellent place in those decks.
Ratings:
3.6/5 Traditional HAND MANAGEMENT vs. Yata
4.1/5 Traditional Fairy
4.6/5 Traditional Trample
4.1/5 Advanced Hand Management
4.6/5 Advanced Fairy
4.9/5 Advanced Trample
Art: 4.5/5 Love it, absolutely love it.
