Enemy Controller
Enemy Controller’s a pretty rentsy card, certainly
one of the more versatile Spells available in the
game right now.
Being a Quickplay, it can be played from your hand
at any point during your own turn (excluding the
Damage Step) and from the field at any point during
your opponent’s (…excluding the Damage Step). You
also have a choice of effects.
The first is to change the Battle Position of a
face-up monster on your opponent’s side of the
field. If he attacks with BLS-EotB, switch it to DEF
and you don’t have to worry about it for a turn. If
he has Spirit Reaper, use Enemy Controller to kill
it. If he has Berserk Gorilla, kill it with
Controller. If he has some Sheep Tokens, switch one
to ATK and it’s as good as attacking directly.
Or, you can sacrifice a monster on your side of the
field to take control of an opponent’s face-up
monster for the turn. So you can get rid of your
Sinister Serpent or Sheep Tokens to take his Jinzo
and use it against him, or to take his BLS-EotB and
force it to remove itself. It’s nice with Cannon
Soldier as well.
The beauty of this card is that even if you can’t or
have no reason to use its control-grabbing effect,
there’s another one to fall back on. That is
versatility.

Enemy Controller
Here's a card we might be seeing more of next month.
Enemy Controller used to be played in almost every
tournament-worthy deck for the longest time -- at
least 1. You had so many options for it -- you shift
an attacker in to defense, you sacrifice a Scapegoat
to take a real monster and then tribute it, you
sacrifice a Scapegoat to take a BLS and make it
remove itself or Morph it, or you pull a Goat into
ATK mode and shoot through for the win.
Then the position change rule changes came along.
Suddenly, everyone was running mass Book of Moons.
You could be giving up a monster (or token) to try
to take a face-up monster that wouldn't be face-up
when Controller resolved. Book comboed so well with
Magician of Faith (which everyone ran 2 of anyway)
that Controller fell by the wayside. Not only that,
but with the new rules, your chaining Enemy
Controller's first effect to a Heavy Storm, Dust
Tornado, or anything but an attack did virtually 0.
Well, Book of Moon is getting restricted in October
most likely, along with all the pieces of the Goat
Control deck. Although this means you'll have less
of a chance to give only a sheep token to take a
real moster, it means there will be more times you
need a quick-play spell to defend you -- especially
with the perceived agreement the community has come
to that aggro decks will be the next cookie-cutter.
It's something to look for in a month or so.

Enemy Controller
Today's card is Enemy Controller, a card that
plummeted in usage after the rulings overhaul a few
months ago, but is expected by some to rise in
popularity again if the OCG Forbidden List is in
anyway similar to our own.
Being a Quick-Play Spell with two effects to chose
from, EC has many distinct uses, most of which would
probably occur during the opponent's turn. As a
first option, you can choose for EC to become a
weakened Book of Moon, changing the position of 1
face-up monster under the opponent's control to
Defense Position. At most, it's a replacement for
Book of Moon, and should not be the effect that you
ultimately aim for. While it is nice for "negating"
attacks, it just fails in comparison to EC's second
effect.
Should you decide to use the alternative effect, EC
allows you to Tribute a monster on your side of the
field in order to take control of an opponent's
face-up monster until the end of the turn. For those
of us who have not forgotten the modification of
cardiac that was lost to those of we who play
Advanced, this effect is remarkably similar to
Change of Heart. For everyone else, it's just
another card that can be abused with Scapegoat.
So, you've got a Sheep Token handy. Watcha gonna dew
wit it? Use it to defend your Life Points? Pfft.
Metamorphosis it? Hah! What you really should be
doing is getting rid of that Scapegoat so as to
borrow your opponent's Dark Necrofear for the turn.
Not only can you "pwn" with an opponent's monster,
but you can look good doing it too! Of course
attacking isn't this particular effect's only usage;
it can also serve as a way to stop attacks, though
using it to attack would probably be more efficient.
Your opponent is attacking that vulnerable Mask of
Darkness whose uses have been utterly spent? No
worries; sacrifice it, borrow the opponent's
strongest monster for the turn, and you're safe from
further attacks.
Overall, EC is a very useful card that could easily
find a use in any Side Deck or Deck that utilizes
Scapegoats (or some other expendable monster [which
means most Decks]). But due to more useful
alternatives (IE. BoM and Snatch Steal to name a
few) it's unlikely that EC will be if much use for
the time being.
Advanced: 3.5/5. Not to shabby, especially with
Scapegoats.
Traditional: 3/5. EC, meet Change of Heart; it's way
better than you.
Overall: 3.25/5.
Art: 5/5. My video game infatuation may blind my
judgment. Nevertheless, that controller doesn't look
incredibly comfortable.

Dark Paladin |
Enemy Controller is one of my favorite magic cards
in the game. Aside from that, it's an excellent
Advanced alternative for Change of Heart (even with
Brain Control now available) This also will be seen
more if we lose Book of Moon.
Enemy Controller has two effects, and both are
pretty damn nice.
First, before the effects, EC is a Quickplay Spell
which is always nice. As for the first effect, you
can simply change the battle posistion of one
opponent's monster. That is quite useful.
Or, you can use Enemy Controller to take control of
one of your opponent's monsters for a turn. The only
catch is that you have sacrifice one of your
monsters, but no big deal...its a 1 for 1. (2 for 1
I know, you count EC too)
In short, if you have one of these, you should be
using it, or AT LEAST side it.
Ratings:
Traditional: 4.0/5
Advanced: 4.6/5
Art: 4.5/5 A neat controller
You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

I'm
going to be brief; the only reason I'm choosing to
review this card is so that I can go over the
stupidity of replacing Book of Moon with this.
It has become apparent with the change of game
mechanics in July that Book of Moon is terrific,
where as this thing's uses are best described as
terrible. However, due to an increasing presence of
Royal Decree, Enemy Controller will be seen
everywhere due to reluctance to play Trap
protection. This is because people are morons.
Book of Moon is irreplacable. The utility and combo-ality
of the card are both represented in a myriad of ways
that I can't even list without falling short. Book
of Moon was NOT a defensive card, it was offensive
effect manipulation. It stopped Breaker and a really
strong attack from a Jinzo, BLS, or Airknight, yeah,
but it was used to manipulate effects. Getting hit
by a 1900 with Trample isn't bad, but then seeing
your opponent pick up another card that you have to
fight against... That's brutal. Using Book of Moon
to stop a Breaker isn't using Book of Moon to stop
the monster, it's using Book of Moon to stop the
effect. Book stops Jinzo's effect too, allowing you
to Call out an Airknight Parshath or Jinzo or BLS of
your own. It prevents Snatch Steal, Lightning
Vortex, Mirror Force, Smashing Ground, Sakuretsu
Armor, and Bottomless Trap Hole from going off. Book
does a hell of a lot, and deserved a restriction of
some sort just on its own (though I personally think
Morph should have been banned and that Book should
have gone to two).
So let's talk about what this card does do. The
advantage this card had in its hey-day was the
ability to tribute up Goat tokens and used-up
Magician of Faiths to take control of a monster,
making it a Pseudo-Metamorphosis or Change of Heart.
If it didn't do those two, it blocked an attack or
manipulated the "downside" effects of Spirit Reaper
and Berserk Gorilla, or hit a monster into DEF
position so that a Trampler could run over it. It
was severely hyped up by people who probably still
have no idea what they're talking about, and only a
few players recognized the more powerful Book of
Moon.
Opinions have since changed, and a metagame that has
swung from unlimited control to a banlist that
introduced aggro back to a banlist of control and
now straight again to a banlist that revives
aggressive play style. Will Enemy Controller be
good?
Well, 1 for 0's rarely are. People looking to
replace Book of Moon... You can't. Give up.
That does not mean this card won't be good. People
who play Gorillas will run rampant, Zombies will be
played more ubiquitiously than before, and Phoenix
will see revived popularity as well. Enemy
Controller doesn't have a niche in the game right
now. Right now it's worthless in a meta where Book
of Moon does so much better. Enemy Controller will
come back, but DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
REPLACE BOOK OF MOON WITH THIS. Enemy Controller is
offensive manipulation, and Book of Moon is both
offensive manipulation and offensive effect
manipulation. If you play Enemy Controller, have a
reason for doing so.
