Agido

Today we review Agido, a monster who’s very, very rentsy. It’s EARTH and a Fairy, an interesting combination; it’s also Level 4 with 1500 ATK, which is meh (makes it searchable via Giant Rat and Sangan, I guess).

When it’s destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard, you roll a die. You then can Special Summon a Fairy whose level is equal to the die roll, but if you roll a six, you can Special Summon a Fairy of Level 6 or higher. This can certainly be a useful effect. Key word: can.

If you roll, say, a two, you’re pretty much out of luck. Really, if you roll any number and you don’t have a Fairy of that level in your Graveyard, you’re out of luck. Agido is really only useful if you have a lot of Faries with a lot of different levels in your Graveyard.

The best case scenario would probably be summoning something big, like Saturn, or Guardian Angel Joan. Airknight Parshath wouldn’t be bad either.

Seriously though, if you use this, don’t expect to roll a five or six every time. I don’t even know whether to recommend it. It’s just that rentsy.

Oh, and I’m now rating with the October 1st Forbidden/Restricted List in mind, since we finally know which one the TCG is getting. This creates a little problem – there’s no cookie cutter yet. So, I’ll ONLY be rating cards for their own decks, which means ratings will be inflated for a while. Oh well.

Fairy Deck: 2.5/5

ExMinion OfDarkness
Agido

This card's going to get a slightly biased low score from me, but let me explain why.

I always hated the element of chance when it came to a lot of things, both in and out of the Duel itself. This is probably why I turned out how I did when it came to Yu-Gi-Oh -- scaling, netdecking, and to some extent lopsided trades...all to remove chance, whether it be the chance that I won't pull a good card or the chance that my deck has major weaknesses that could easily be avoided.

Likewise, I dislike cards that only give you a partial shot at getting your effect.

Agido is one of those. The stats are actually pretty good -- 1500 ATK = highest possible search target, 1300 DEF = not vulnerable to Tsuku. It's not Light, like most would expect a fairy-type to be, which eliminates some good combos.

The effect can sometimes be gamebreaking, sometimes break even, but mostly not work at all. Your prime targets are either Level 4, 5, or 6 -- a 50% chance you won't get anything; even more if you don't happen to have the Parshath or Saturn in the graveyard.

Simply put: if you want to play a fairy deck, there are better cards.

Coin Flip
Hey, it's a good card.

I think that I should use the little FAST AV method I divulged to you when reviewing Rocket Warrior now. Let's copy and paste that list, eh?

Frequency of effect usage (Horus LV8)
Awesome stats (Skilled Dark Magician)
Searchability (Gravekeeper's Assailant)
Type support

Awesome effect (Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning)
Versatility (Magical Scientist)

So let's look at Exxy... Okay, Exxy has awesome stats. 1800 is a fair amount, and people playing Kycoo have something better to look at. 1900 is stellar. I won't beat around the bush here. Exxy's 1800/1900 are the best stats I've seen attached to a 4 star in a long time (excepting the craptacular Giant Kozaky and Arsenal Bug). Exxy has no searchability whatsoever, unfortunately. The frequency of his usage is not particularly stellar in the new format, but in the current one he joygasms when he sees goats. He has Type support in the form of Wild Nature's Release and Enraged Battle Ox, but who cares about that?

The effect is fair. Reducing a monster's ATK by 400 to give it Piercing Battle Damage is a fair effect, especially at the well-positioned stats Exxy has. Its versatility is null. Because the effect has to be activated AFTER you attack, Exxy can't use it to slip under Messenger of Peace. It has one use, and that use is a good one.

So I used a cookie cutter rating method. Sue me.

Anyway, he's solid. I'll rate him for the new format.

General: 3.5/5

Snapper Agido

Welcome to a splendidly uneventful week of reviews! Every card being reviewed this week earned its spot just for the heck of it (and it also hasn't been reviewed before). Additionally, each and every card will most likely NEVER appear in a Deck that would be used in the new (and old) Advanced Format, the newer of which goes into effect on Saturday. So I warn you now: stop reading now if cards with one-sentence effects bore you to death. Today's card is Agido, a card that can add a little recursion to Fairy Decks… that you'd use for some reason or another.

For the time being (IE prior to October 1st), Agido's 1500 ATK enables it to roll all over the competition, flattening Tsukuyomis, squishing un-possessed TERs that are also doing nothing to prevent attacks, and basically the typical CC card. In the new Advanced though, Agido's capabilities are unknown, though if what the OCG playtesters say is true, 1500 ATK may not suffice. It is also a Fairy. I'm not really sure HOW it's a Fairy, but it does make itself an eligible target for its effect.

When Agido goes to the Graveyard due to battle, its effect allows you to roll a die. After that, you are then able to Special Summon a Fairy from your Graveyard whose Level is equal to the result (unless it's a six, in which case you can Special Summon a Level 6 or higher Fairy). With Agido's mild ATK, the effect should be able to be used fairly easily; utilizing the effect will be the main problem.

In most cases, when rolling the die for Agido's effect, you'll be hoping for a 4, and maybe a higher number. This isn't just because those results would give you the strongest monsters, but it's also because there really aren't any Level 3 or lower Fairies that you may use or would want to revive. For example, the best Level 3 or lower Fairy is, arguably, Winged Kuriboh.
Whether you agree with this observation is not the point though; it's merely meant to show that there isn't little to choose from if you roll a 1, 2, or 3.

But if you roll a 4, the future becomes brighter; with a 4, you can revive potentially useful monsters like Absorbing Kid from the Sky, Hysteric Fairy, Kelbek, Mudora, Shining Angel, and of course Agido (either the one whose effect you're currently using or another one entirely). But the results after 4 begin to look strikingly similar to the results prior; there aren't many. A result of 5 would only allow you to revive Airknight Parsath, and a result of 6 would in most cases give you access to only Guardian Angel Joan.
Of course getting to revive an AP or a GAJ would really make Agido worthwhile, it's just your chances aren't high.

Overall, Agido is a great asset to Fairy Decks, and could potentially become a staple for that Deck-Type (I think). But the currently low amount of eligible/desirable Level 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6+ Fairies makes Agido something it may be best to avoid. Should better/more Fairies ever be released, Agido is sure to gain renewed uses.

Advanced (Fairy Deck): 3/5. You'd better hope you roll a 4… Traditional (Fairy Deck): 2/5. I'd just stick with the tried and true Monster Reborn, especially since Agido probably won't die in battle.
Overall (Fairy Deck): 2.5/5.
Art: 2/5. I'm guessing it's an Egyptian basketball… with robots arms.

Agido
(Earth/Fairy/4/1500/1300)

When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard as a result of battle, roll a six-sided die. You can Special Summon 1 Fairy-Type monster from your Graveyard whose Level Stars are equal to the number rolled. If the result is 6, you can Special Summon a Level 6 or higher monster.

Agido is an older card from DCR, but was a decent start for Fairy decks. It is able to trade itself off for anything from a Winged Kuriboh to The Agent of Judgment - Saturn or Airknight Parshath. That’s pretty cool as it could potentially hold of an onslaught. Why do I say potentially? Because it’s effect relies on a dice roll.

It’s effect activates in the graveyard, making it immune to Skill Drain and things of that nature. The downside there is that it has to be destroyed and sent to the graveyard as a result of battle. That means D.D. Warrior Lady could remove it from play and negate the effect.

The biggest downside is it’s effect, though. Because let’s say they attack it and it goes to the graveyard and you have an Airknight Parshath ready to come out. Now you have to rely on a 6-sided die to get a 5 (16.666 % chance of that). I hate dice rolls as they are virtually unreliable unless you have some loaded dice.

If you happen to get a the right dice roll, it could swing the game in your favor. Being able to summon a high level Fairy or a Mudora (in the late game) could be huge for a comeback or a final push.

One last thought before the ratings, it has the ability to combo nicely with Creature Swap, Shien’s Spy, etc... as it activates in your graveyard, so you get the effect.

Trad. Rating: 1/5 (Effects that activate by attacks won’t happen as much with Raigeki, CED, etc..)

Adv. Rating: 2.75/5 (It’s a good Fairy, but there are many better candidates for the job)

Draft Rating: 0.5/5 (unless you get lucky with your pulls)

Artwork Rating: 2/5 (Weird little red thing. Doesn’t really look much like a Fairy)

Dark Paladin
Welcome to a new week of cards and frankly, I believe this is another one of those everyone but Dark Paladin knows the theme...more accurately, IF there is a theme, everyone but I know what it may be...

That being said, today's card is Agido. Agido is a very interesting monster. Agido is a Level 4 Earth monster, which isn't so bad. 1500 attack is decent and 1300 defense is enough to survive a Tsuku flip.

In short, when Agido goes to the Graveyard via battle, you role a die.
You summon a monster of Fairy origin from your Graveyard equal to the roll of a 6 sided die (or Level 6 or higher for a 6).

This card is really not so hot, even in a Fairy deck. There are too many factors to depend on. You have to have the monsters in your graveyard, and you're hoping for 6 to summon that Guardian Angel Joan you discarded.

1.5/5 all

Art: 2.5/5 Not so great either.

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)
