Luster Dragon (the 1900 ATK one)
Okay...so we're reviewing this one per fan request.
So to whoever it was that liked a card that was good
two and a half years ago, here's to you.
1900 ATK in a 4-star is good. We play Kycoo, who's
lower. We've played Berserk Gorilla, who's only
slightly higher. 1600 DEF is also respectable (as
people play with a lot of Dekoichis/Tomatoes/etc.)
But back then, it got blasted for not being
Witchable, and Archfiend Soldier > this just because
of that.
But in a Dragon deck, 3 of this is staple. It gives
them the power that almost makes up for the lack of
card advantage through other means.
1.25/5 Traditional
1.75/5 Advanced (beatstick but nothing else)

Dark Paladin |
Well, for the second week in a row, we review a fan
request on Monday.
I think Vorse Raider was the last Vanilla monster we
reviewed, and following the pattern of non-effect
1900 attack Level 4 monsters, we look at Luster
Dragon.
There's nothing really to say about this card. 1900
attack for level 4 is good. 1600 defense is also
fairly solid. Dragon is a fairly well supported
type, while Wind is very supported as an attribute
ever. No effect, so nothing else to talk about.
Ratings:
3/5 all around, as it still is a Dragon beatstick
Art: 4/5
You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

Luster Dragon review/rant
ARGH!!!!!! So Luster Dragon, one of my fave cards,
and yet, one of my most hated. I’ll skip reviewing
the playability of both Luster Dragons since neither
of them are worth running in any competitive deck
anyways. Instead I’ll give my story.
A long time ago, most likely before you were born,
we were cursed by the release of a set. This set was
LoD. Legacy of Darkness was just that, the
corruption and death of the game. For while it
brought offers of support to both Dragons and
Warriors it brought doom itself….. Yata-Garasu.
Contained in this set was a powerful dragon, Luster
Dragon. Originally called Emerald Dragon in Japan,
but we were used to the localisation. Being a 2400
and a Dragon I had to use it, I loved dragon decks.
So during the August that followed I decided to win
the local tourney using Dragons while having my
control deck in the side. I did so without once
siding.
September came and then my anger grew. We were
graced with Magician’s Force, once again a curse
disguised as a blessing. While we did get
Spellcaster support (and Paladin of White Dragon
^.^) we also got the Troublesome Trio (two of which
are banned). In this set was another dragon to keep
me happy, my Sapphire Dragon, a nice 1900 vanilla
that looked soo good. But!!!! It was named…...
LUSTER DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This enraged me, two
different cards named the same thing. There was much
initial debate about the fate of them until one day
UDE graced us with an Errata.
They Errataed Sapphire Dragon to be Luster Dragon
#2. This seemed fitting as it was the second to be
released. All was calm in the YGO world, and there
was much rejoicing (half-hearted ‘yea…’)
But then a few months later they made the new Yugi
and Kaiba starter decks. There was much hope that
they would be the starter decks from Japan, alas
they weren’t. But! They contained a surprise.
Emerald Dragon had been reprinted, as Luster Dragon
#2!!!!!!!! That’s right the card that was to be
called Luster Dragon, was printed as Luster Dragon
#2!!!!!!111!!1one!!!!1shift+1 So this left us with:
Luster Dragon (LoD one), Luster Dragon (MFC one) but
it was errataed to Luster Dragon #2, and Luster
Dragon #2 that was the LoD one but printed
wrong!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?
Many a duelist went on long rants about this (okay I
lie, it was just me) Then finally UDE spoke again.
The LoD one (Emerald Dragon) was to be called Luster
Dragon #2 and the MFC one to be Luster Dragon, this
way it matches the reprint. All was calm in the YGO
world, and there was much rejoicing (half-hearted
‘yea…’)
Now you would think that this would end the
confusion since it was up on their errata site
right? WRONG!!!!!
A few months later I was checking the errata page
since they overhauled it. I now saw that they had
the set name/number of each card errataed next to
the name. This would help avoid confusion, etc. But…
that’s right… BUT there was one errata with NO SET
NAME!!!!!! And it was luster dragon…. The errata
showed that:
Luster Dragon
This card’s name should be Luster Dragon #2.
This then ment that both the LoD one and the MFC one
were to be called LUSTER DRAGON #2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Once again my anger rose,
and many a duelist went on a rant (okay, it was just
me)
Finally, yes finally. They updated the errata page
so that it said:
Luster Dragon (LoD-whatever)
This card’s name should be Luster Dragon #2.
They fixed it!!! They finally finally fixed it!!!!!!
Once again, all was calm in the YGO world, and there
was much rejoicing (half-hearted ‘yeah…’)

Luster Dragon:
It's a normal monster. Therefore, it is rubbish.
Alright, it's got 1900 ATK in a Lv. 4 and has 1600
DEF, which is fairly good. Also, it's a dragon,
which is a fairly well supported type. However, this
monster has no effect. It's text box exists only to
talk in the hyberbolic way that only Yu-Gi-Oh can.
Therefore, it is rubbish.

Advanced: 1/5

Luster Dragon
As far as I know, we are reviewing the 1900 atk
luster dragon and not his 2400 cousin.
Luster Dragon , as a beatdown monster is generally
not bad, 1900 attack is expected nowadays and 1600
def can fend off almost any of the commonly played
level 4’s. Being wind he receives no immediately
obvious bonuses, as in a wind deck he is likely to
be replaced by Slate Warrior and Spear dragon, two
similar, but generally better monsters, which really
dampers his usability, especially as a simple level
4 since Skilled Dark Magician truly has him beat
both stat and attribute wise.
Overall, luster Dragon, although beautiful to look
at and not entirely useless does play second fiddle
to a variety of other cards out there, although
saying that, he is one of my favourite cards.
Traditional : 2/5 1900 attackers arent as potent
here.
Advanced : 3/5 Just really isn’t anything
spectacular.
Art ; 5/5 Awesome

Luster Dragon
What can I say, I love this card.
Cards like this, Archfiend Soldier, Insect Knight,
Mad Dog of Darkness, etc. are great monsters. With
1900 attack and decent defenses people can not deal
with them all to easy.
Just Saturday I entered (and tied for first) at a
local tournament. I was running an insect deck with
3 Insect Knights in it (which is essentially the
same thing as Luster Dragon) The fact I kept
smacking people for 1900 or hitting sakuretsu armor
or even killing monsters annoyed my opponents.
Luster Dragon is a big monster who smacks almost all
4 stared monsters in the game (and kills those pesky
jujitsu masters) On top of that he is a great first
turn set (who draws out Nobleman saving your flip
monsters and spirit reapers) and literally pays for
himself most games. A lot of opponents may not use
sakuretsu armor on him because of the fact he is a
normal monster. Thus he kills their monster and
draws out some other form of removal.
I have a soft spot for this monster, time and time
again this kind of advantageous engine hurts my
opponents feelings. Because when they smashing
ground, D.D. Assailant/Warrior Lady, Bottomless Trap
Hole, or whatever 1,000 other things they can do; it
just sets the field up for your Jinzo, Doom Dozer,
Chaos Sorcerer, etc. to finish off the game. People
who refuse to acknowledge this monster, or others of
its kind, based simply on its normal status fail to
understand that it dies in the same manner effect
monsters do, but tends to cause more problems then
they do.
I love it when an opponent book of moons or enemy
controllers him with 1600 defense, and then realize
their stupid (fill in the blank) can't finish off
the Job
4/5
Simply because it is meant to hit the opponent and
control the field with monster exchange. Nothing
does it better (monsters like Goblin Attack Force
remember die to treeborn frog.)
