ExMinion OfDarkness
Silent Magician 4 and 8

Maybe someone will make a broken deck with these guys someday.

Silent Magician Lv. 4 and 8 really aren't a bad combo. A 1000/1000 that grows steadily stronger with opponent draws and will eventually become a 3500 behemoth that Smashing Ground can't kill and Snatch Steal can't steal is meh on its own. But a 1000/1000 that can instantly become said 3500 behemoth with Level Up just SCREAMS for abuse. If only Level Up wasn't such a situational card and horrible topdeck, we might be seeing more of this.

Silent 8 screams for abuse with Royal Decree and multi-Controller build that was eluded to in Monday's review. With DDA most likely getting restricted, there aren't a lot of cards left people play that would ram this guy off the field. One DDA, one DDWL, and one Exiled Force. A Decree on the field would mean he can't be hit by spells or Traps, and if you have Controllers to prevent DDA/DDWL from attacking and sending something else to that job later, you have a near-invincible monster. Only the Exiled Force insta-tribute would knock him off then...I'm not even counting a 3600+ ATK monster as a real possibility. Maybe the destruction of Decree and then the Sakuretsu becoming a threat again, but that's about it.

The way the Lv. monsters are structured just doesn't allow this to be played right now. We'll have to check back after April Tewart's Day to see what the Forbidden and Limited lists say.

1/5 Traditional
2.25/5 Advanced

Dark Paladin
To close out the week, we look at the other 2 promos from the Nightmare Trobadour game, Silent Magician Level 4 and Silent Magician Level 8.

Silent Magician Level 4 has 1000 attack, and 1000 defense. Each time your opponent draws, one counter is placed on SM Level 4. Each counter gives him 500 attack points. When five counters are acquired, you may Special Summon SM Level 8.

Silent Magician Level 8 has 3500 attack, (and the same 1000 paltry defense :( ) He also comes with a big bonus...he is completely unaffected by any of your opponent's Magic cards. NO Snatch Steal, Hammer Shot, Lightning Vortex (for him, but the rest of your field would go if face up) Brain Control. He would even survive Dark Hole (but not your own.)

I think both environments horribly hurt the playability of this deck.
In Traditional, there IS Pot and Graceful, but Level 4 will probably NOT last five turns. Level Up can fix that, but you have to find it too. In Advanced, he COULD last five turns, but it still isn't that likely.

I actually play-tested these guys in my Dark Paladin/Spellcaster deck, and I got Level 8 out 5 times in 10 duels. Not horrible, but not enough for all the time and effort required.

Ratings:

2/5 all around general but...
3.5/5 in its own deck

Art: 5/5 excellent

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

Silent Magician

These two monster, surprisingly enough are level up monster and in this case especially , you should therefore take advantage by using the level up card.

Otherwise, your stuck with the mini level 4 who manages to get a mini boost of 500 attack each time the opponent draws. Not really worth the 5 turns you have to wait for it is it? 5 turns is not going to happen, and even if you force the opponent to draw with , lets say Card destruction, he only gets the 1 counter anyway.

What’s worse is that once you reach the 5 counters, you evolve him just to get the same attack with Silent Swordsman Spell negation. However, with level up this is just sheer abuse as you can go and get this virtually unsurpassable creature. Not a bad deck type if it all works out

Traditional ; 2/5 Not very good

Advanced : 4/5 in its own deck, but it still doesn’t come close to Horus.

Art : 3/5 The level up just seems to be a close up on the original art….
