Cyber-Stein

Odd that my new-found favorite deck to lucksack people with is the subject of today's Card of the Day, even with someone else picking the cards.

Stein's effect just owns. In a dedicated deck, using the Megamorphs/Limiter Removal/Giant Trunades, he's almost guaranteed to get a Game 1 win, and will usually only lose if the opponent has sided heavily against Stein (which is becoming more and more of a trend), or is able to do 3,000 or more damage very quickly -- and even then Poison of the Old Man can gain enough to put the player back into Stein range.

(NOTE: Want to play Stein but scared of the multiple Kuribohs that could possibly stop you from a win? Prohibition can take care of that for you...and Decree -- if you're crazy enough to take out your Secret Barrels for it when siding, can take care of the Waboku/Threatening Roar.)

As a tech card, it can win games that a player couldn't otherwise win, like Return from the Different Dimension does. If nothing else, it's another Dark monster to remove for Sorcerer.

Cyber-Stein is seeing more and more popularity lately, be it as a single card to potentially end a game (see the finals coverage of Canadian Nationals for a perfect example) and as a dedicated deck.

Having said that, I personally hope Stein continues to see lots of play, and that Konami won't let Upper Deck ban or restrict it. I'd rather lose to a well-constructed Stein deck, or to a Stein where the Stein player was smart enough to draw out opposing removal beforehand, than to a Return when I have +(insert some ungodly number here.)

Trad: 4/5 (lots of field clears, but also more broken cards I'd play first, like CED)

Adv: 5/5

Dark Paladin
Welcome to RJ's week! This week we'll be looking at some nifty cards and we start this week by reviewing the ever popular Cyber Stein.

Cyber Stein itself (ignoring the effect) stinks. It is only Level 2 and has an attack 9f 700 and a defense of 500. It is a Machine which is rather pointless in this case. By paying 5000 lifepoints, you may Special Summon one Fusion Monster from your Fusion deck.

There's the good. For even better, summon Cyber End Dragon, and equip it with Megamorph. That gives you an 8000 attack monster with Trample.
This can be even more deadly as a First or one turn kill.

However, Cyber Stein has a few downsides as well. After you do this, you have a 700 attack monster just asking to be destroyed. Plus, you could be in trouble since you just paid 5000 lifepoints to summon the Fusion Monster.

Ratings:

Traditional: 2/5 Too many lifepoints and too much chaos
Advanced: 3/5 More playable indeed

5/5 for One/First Turn kill though

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

Cyber-Stein:
Pretty much the last herald of OTK.

Cyber-Stein is much like Marmite; you either love him or you hate him, generally dependant which side of him you are on. He creates an entire deck archetype that can be rather effective (if you don't know, summon big fusion, clear backfield, double ATK by some clever means, attack for game), though one can avoid it. The real question is how long before Konami turn their ban-gun towards this guy and finish off all the playable OTKs?

Cyber Stein is a great card that has now changed or extremely influenced the Metagame. The stats don't do so much but the effect makes this card almost as broken as Return from the Different Dimension.

By paying 5000 life points you can special summon a fusion type monster to your side of the field. As most people refer this card to the popular "OTK" deck it actually can serve a purpose in a common deck.

By using a combo of cards, Cyber Stein can be a One Turn Kill, or in other words win in one turn. Using cards such as Giant Trunade, Limiter Removal, and Megamorph make this all possible. Pulling powerful cards usually make the card more effective but than there is always the control fusions such as Dark Balter, Ryu Senshi, and so on.

This piece of utility can be found in some people's deck only running one. With Last Will and the age of tribute monsters make this a very powerful and consistent choice to run.

With the surprise factor and game winning tactics make this a very playable card, even a copy randomly in your deck!

As game winning as Return from the Different Dimension it is still not as consistent. Not much more to talk about since this card is so simple but so good.

Cyber - Stein

Yeah, we kick off a week of Cards picked by yours truly with this card, Cyber-Stein.

This card was originally released as the first Shonen Jump promo, and a funny story is that my team actually won one of the original Cyber-Steins ;P. This card was reprinted in DB2 I believe, and it still goes for around 10-25 dollars, depending on how lucky you are.

Cyber-Stein has been popping up randomly in many decks. One of the first and popular cases of this was in Rob "n2thez" Morgans Side Deck @ SJC Atlanta. I personally watched Rob most of the day after I had dropped, and the Cyber-Stein worked very well for him, and alot of the combos seem lucksackish, but they really aren't as hard as they seem. The card has recently helped Calvin Tsang win Canadian Nationals '06. Calvin is, of course a remarkable player, but just the fact that he won that game when he was down on cards and ripped Cyber-Stein warrants this cards banning, and OTK's are so cheesy.

Igor Kharin got 2nd @ UK Nationals just a while back with what many people (Self included) are referring to as "The best Cyber-Stein OTK ever built". Here is a list below for you to check out.

Monsters: 14

3 Cyber-Stein
3 Nimble Momonga
3 Spirit Reaper
1 Morphing Jar
1 Magician of Faith
1 Mystic Tomato
1 Sangan
1 Exiled Force

Spells: 18

3 Giant Trunade
3 Megamorph
3 Poison of the Old Man
1 United we Stand
1 Limiter Removal
1 Nobleman of Crossout
1 Scapegoat
1 Graceful Charity
1 Level Limit – Area B
1 Swords of Revealing Light
1 Heavy Storm
1 Premature Burial

Traps: 8

2 Gravity Bind
1 Ceasefire
1 Magic Cylinder
1 Mirror Force
3 Secret Barrel

Side-Deck:

3 Wave-Motion Cannon
3 Just Desserts
3 Stealth Bird
2 Ojama Trio
2 Lava Golem
1 Des Koala
1 Mask of Darkness

Despite the cheapness of this deck, its remarkably good. I've tested the deck alot, and it is INCREDIBLY consistent. If you're looking for Cyber-Stein OTK variants, this is the one you're looking for.

All in all, Cyber-Stein is a cheap card that is broken and game breaking in some aspects, and although you may argue that its "5000lp cost makes it balanced", you're wrong. Life points mean NOTHING until you have Zero(0).

Ratings:

Traditional: hhmmm. 1/5?
Advanced: OTK: 5/5. Tech: 4/5

Dark Maltos

Cyber Stein ;

This is actually quite a good week , cool.

Currently, Cyber Stein is the best first turn kill available to us , using this with the Cyber fusions or even Blue eyes ultimate dragon , combined with Mega morph / Limiter Removal, essentially dealing over 8000 damage at the cost of 5000.

Way back in the day, Stein was released as an ultimately rare promo that nearly sold for a record breaking $23,000 if memory serves. Quite the sought after card. But now its been re published as a rare in Dark Beginning.

Cyber Stein can be an overwhelming card in the early game, but after a couple of hits on your lp he becomes essentially useless. The Stein OTK is the best route to go under with this monster I think, as for such a hefty cost its not worth getting anything else with his huge cost. Just make sure the opposing backfield is clear, otherwise a well placed Magic Cylinder could topple you.

He’s also dark for you Chaos lovers out there.

Traditional : 3.5/5 Could be effective here, combined with all the power house cards, if used correctly.
Advanced : 4/5 Very good, just need to worry about the high Bottomless trap hole and Sakurtsu count.

Art : 4/5 Pretty gruesome.
MPS ; 4/5 I love the idea.
