Monday:
Des Feral Imp

Welcome to the Teacher/Student Request week! All of this week's cards were requested by a teacher and his (her?) students.

Hoepfully, we can use this week to teach why certain cards shouldn't be played.

Des Feral Imp is a classic case of a "-1" -- an effect that will cost you a card (most likely) but won't either give you a card or get rid of one of your opponent's cards. His Flip effect lets you shuffle a card in your Graveyard into your deck. My question; why not use a flip effect to get the card back into your hand instead? Magician of Faith gets back Spell cards, Mask of Darkness can get back Trap cards, and Monster cards should most likely be getting revived by Premature Burial or Call of the Haunted, not brought back to your hand or deck.

The only reason someone should be shuffling a monster from their Graveyard to their Deck is most likely along with four other monsters for the effect of Pot of Avarice. (Or some combo involving Outstanding Dog Marron, with its own effect.)

The ATK and DEF scores on this card enable it to actually hold its own in battle, but its effect is way too weak to see any play.

1/5 all

Dark Paladin
Monday

Well, this week apparently is brought to you by a teacher and his loyal minions...I mean students. Today, we look at Des Feral Imp.

Des Feral Imp is a Level 4 Dark monster. He has an attack of 1300 and a defense of 1400, both a little low, but he can be fetched by Sangan and Mystic Tomato. He is also a Reptile, so you could even use him with Ultra Evolution Pill.

The effect is simple, yet fairly useless. When flipped, you can select one card from your Graveyard, and add it back to your deck. The deck is then shuffled. The only problem I see with this is, you aren't guarenteed to use the card again.

Since you have to shuffle your deck as opposed to say, placing the card on the top of your deck where you would use it again, you just HOPE you'll use it again. Not really worth it in my opinion, sorry.

Ratings:

2/5 all around

Art: 3.5/5 It is a neat picture.

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)
Ryoga Des Feral Imp:
Interesting effect that doesn't need to be played.

I've used this guy a few times in my puzzles for added recursion. However, my puzzles are about as realistic as a tap dancing wildebeast. Beyond a desperate Exodia player, this card should not see play in tournaments.

However, in casual, this is one of the strongest stats on a Flip effect monster ever AND its a Reptile. A lovely little thing to surprise your friends with. It just doesn't do much after that.
