Today, as my Shadow of Infinity week progresses, we
look at what seems to be a very popular tribute
monster from the set, Divine Dragon-Excelion.
Excelion does have the downside of being a Level 5
monster, requiring one tribute. Furthermore, he only
has 1500 attack points which is quite low for a
tribute monster. However, Excelion has a
wide-variety of effects for you to choose from if he
mirrors himself in the Graveyard.
•Increase the ATK of this card by 1000 points.
•If this card destroys your opponent's monster as a
result of battle, it can attack once again in a row.
•When this card destroys a monster as a result of
battle and sends it to the Graveyard, inflict damage
to your opponent's Life Points equal to the ATK of
the destroyed monster.
1000 extra attack almost makes this worth a tribute,
but then for that to be the effect, that's not that
great, is it? Or, you can choose the BLS type effect
and attack a second time if you destroyed something.
How many monsters is something with 1500 attack
going to be destroying?
Not many...Elemental Searchers, Sangan, Magician of
Faith, that's about it, right?
Or, you can give it the ability to burn your
opponent if he destroys something. That monsters
attack is dealt to your opponent as damage.
Sadly, you probably won't be doing death to anything
to really hurt your opponent unless they are fairly
low on lifepoints anyway.
Ratings:
3/5 in its own deck but 1/5 elsewhere

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

Divine Dragon - Excellion:
Meh.
An interesting idea, but not properly done in my
opinion. To get your one tribute monster's worth out
of this (and you dang well better tribute summon it
because there's no effect off a Special Summon), you
MUST choose the first effect to ensure your divine
dragon isn't stamped on by a spent Breaker. Also,
the third effect is mostly useless.
So, you've got to find a way to get at least one of
these into the graveyard to have a standard,
Smashable monster. It seems too much work to me.
Though, why they didn't have some fun and give this
the type Divine-Beast?

Divine Dragon Excelsion
A card I was much sought after until I discovered
that it does not get its effect when its special
summoned AND that its level 5. Playability greatly
got shot after these points were brought to my
attention.
Excelsion is a recent addition to the dragon deck
arsenal , sporting one of the new ‘For every’ cards
where the summoned monster receives an effect
depending on the number of copies of itself in your
grave.
Divine dragon can receive either an attack boost, a
multi attack function or a direct damage effect
depending on your preference.
Overall, if you can pull it off its very worthwhile,
but since you cant, I’d advise staying clear. It’s
really a shame as I’d have loved to make a deck
around these, shinning angel and DD Dragon.

MPS : 3/5 I still like it…

Divine Dragon is an interesting card. His stats and
effects get better and better for each one in your
graveyard. Plus he is search able via Masked Dragon
and Shining Angel. Thus simply by this he extremely
playable. I look forward to giving him a try as soon
as I get 3 :P
He is also a light monster. Thus in such a deck
ever-bodies favorite tech card, chaos sorcerer and
pot of avarice have uses. I look at this card and
see potential. And honestly I think it deserves a
4/5 simply losing points b/c it is a tribute. But
once 2 hit the graveyard, it won't matter :P
