ExMinion OfDarkness
Master of Oz

He had a couple of days in the sun due to the lack of BEUD, but we have the better card now.

Master of Oz is a big, beefy Fusion -- you give up 3 cards (or 2, if using The Earth - Hex Sealed Fusion) for a 4200 ATKer. The problem is its level; it has NINE stars. Metamorphosis won't do much good as there aren't any common 9-star monsters that could see play. Gatling Dragon and Cyber Twin Dragon (mainly Cyber Twin) see some light use due to Metamorphosis and a rare couple 8-star monsters that see play. Before we had Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon or Cyber Twin/End Dragon, we also had to rely on this thing for the Cyber-Stein One Turn Kill deck...but with the extra 300 (600 when Megamorphed) attack on BEUD, or the double attacks or piercing from the Cyber fusions, this guy easily falls to the back of the line for things you'd summon out with Stein.

As for regular play and actually trying to summon it normally, I could possibly see it with Des Kangaroo and Earth Hex-Sealed, but not in any competitive tournaments. You could get a little suprise with it locally, though.

My policy USED to be to give 5/5 to all Fusion cards as there was no negative aspect of having an extra card in there, but with Memory Crusher and a couple of cards that specifically target the Fusion deck, I'll actually have to think before giving scores. 2/5 for this one across the board, as we have 3 better cards to try to bring out.

Dark Paladin
Keeping in tradition with the last couple of weeks, we are reviewing a fan request card for Monday. This week we're looking at Master of Oz, a very powerful Fusion card, despite it's lack of an effect.

Master of Oz is a Level 9 Fusion monster which means for one, he isn't very morphable. There aren't many Level 9 monsters, and how many do you see played today for that matter?

Master of Oz is a Fusion of Big Koala (2700-2000) and Des Kangaroo
(1500-1700) and he has 4200 attack and 3700 defense. He actually gets an attack and defense equal to the combined values of the monsters used to fuse him.

Now, what does 4200 attack mean? Quite a lot actually. He is strong enough to take down the fairly commonly seen Cyber End Dragon (4000) but he also falls to monsters like Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon (4500).

He's also a Beast, so he fits well in the Enraged Battle Ox family of trampling and 4200 trample would be incredible. There's no real reason to run it outside of said deck, but it is a Fusion, so have fun.

Ratings:

Traditional Beast/Enraged Battle Ox trample: 3/5 Advanced Beast/Enraged Battle Ox trample: 3.6/5

Art: 4/5

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

Ryoga
Master of Oz:
We're off to see the wizard...

Well, actually, we're off to see the gigantic koala.
He's a fusion, so the standard argument that there is no disadvantage to running him applies. However, he doesn't do anything particularly interesting beyond be big; very very big.

But, just being big isn't enough in Yugioh, especially when so much monster destruction is being used. So, play him if you use morph or like having a fusion deck with its own gravitational well, but you shouldn't build a deck around him.

Traditional: 1/5
Advanced: 2/5

Share and enjoy,
Ryoga

"Big Koala" + "Des Kangaroo"

Wow, What a bonified bad@$$.

4200 Attack. Huge. A giant Kangaroo. Huge. Manly under-arm hair. Huge.

Seriously, not much to say about this card except that he is so freaking cool. Its a fusion with no effect, not much to go on. I like it more than Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon for the above qualities it has (Most of all, its so bad@$$. Like a pirate or something =X.).

So yeah, if you have these, please put them in your fusion deck, they're too damn cool.

5/5 all around, its a fusion.

Master of OZ

Before there was Blue eyes ultimate dragon, before there was Cyber End dragon, there was master of OZ, a comical little fusion of Des Kangaroo and Big koala, two sub par monsters.

I don’t recommend running this , as the above mentioned already have it beat, but I suppose if you are from Australia….

Master of Oz

What can be said about a 4200 fusion monster?

As far as fusions go, BEUD has taken the spot of normal beatstick fusion. But Master of Oz is much easier to summon and just as effective to hit an opponents LP with. He is a fusion, thus he gets a 5/5. If you run a deck based on him, I'd definitely run excessive brain controls and the like, just to clear the field and allow me to hit with ease. I'd also run My Body as a Shield in any deck dedicating numerous resources to one summon.

Aussie!  Aussie!  Aussie!  Oi! Oi! Oi!

If I did that wrong I am so sorry.  >_<

Stats                : First and foremost, Master of Oz is Fusion.  This helps it a lot, as Fusions can be “cheated” into play pretty easily now unless they have a restrictive effect… and this isn’t an Effect Monster so we don’t have to worry about that.  It is Level 9, which hurts since that more or less rules out Metamorphosis.  Earth is good: that means not only do we have solid Attribute support but said support includes The Earth – Hex-Sealed Fusion, a much easier way to get a card like this into play.  First, let me explain why you’d want to run Master of Oz: it’s a huge Beast!  Beast Monsters have good support, and ATK 4200 DEF 3700 means its quite nasty for brute force.  However, it’s the combos that make it worth while.

Uses and

Combinations  : Cyberstein OTK can consider it.  Why?  Well, of course, after using Cyberstein to get it out you can equip a Megamorph to make it into an 8400 ATK beast.  If you have an Enraged Battle-Ox (a solid Monster on its own) we add in Trample.  Now, why run this over Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon (slightly bigger and can use a Trap for Trample) or Cyber End Dragon (200 ATK smaller but built in Trample)?  Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, as we know, can only use Megamorph to pump itself up.  Cyber End Dragon can use Limiter Removal to double its ATK…. but Limiter Removal is Restricted.  Wild Nature’s Release isn’t.  That card turns Master of Oz into a 7900 ATK Monster.  It is completely unrestricted.  So you could have six cards that would probably let you do enough to pull off a OTK.  That is why it isn’t a clear choice: the other two candidates are just a hair better at it.  Still, I think it is worth it.

Now, the other two ways to run this probably aren’t as effective, but they are fun and can really surprise people.  Obviously, you can do a deck using the actual components.  A properly Fusion Summoned Fusion has some nifty tricks (like revival cards) and the actual Beast support can get you the win.  Big Koala is far from great, but you can possibly leave it out or only run like a single copy with Fusion Substitutes and Des Kangaroo, which isn’t a good Monster but isn’t too bad either.  Your best bet is probably to run a The Earth – Hex-Sealed Fusion deck.  I have been toying with such a thing; not just for The Earth but for The Light and The Dark – Hex-Sealed Fusion as well.  Des Kangaroo being a Dark Monster hurts since the rest of the deck can use Earth cards, but it still works out fairly well: Giant Rat fetching The Earth – Hex-Sealed Fusion from the deck then on your turn you Normal Summon Des Kangaroo and get a huge Beatstick with little loss in the way of immediate card advantage.  Why?  Well, Giant Rat brought The Earth from the deck so that really didn’t cost you a card and of course Fusions themselves really don’t count as card advantage (at least with respect to the hand) so its only its -1 hand for +1 on the field.  Of course, you really are putting more into it (Giant Rat could fetch Exiled Force or another great Monster instead of The Earth and Des Kangaroo could be changed into a useful Monster period) but as a whole, it’s a pretty inexpensive way of getting out such a huge beatstick.   There’s also the joy of a well timed Inferno Reckless Summon on a revived The Earth – Hex-Sealed Fusion, and hand with 2-3 compatible Monsters, and Fusion Gate on the field.  Not too likely to happen, but fun.

Ratings

Traditional       : 1/5 – Better OTK options, and I can’t recommend such fun decks here.  If you’re playing here, you either don’t care about viability or are all about “power” cards.

Advanced        : 3.5/5 – It’s a solid Fusion that can be used in some decent decks and as a second/third string option for Cyberstein OTK.

Limited            : 1/5 – Only for bluffing since I didn’t see a way to get it into play in the set.

Summary

A good, fun card that like so many, just needs a metagame that is both balanced and compliant with how this game appears to be intended to run (unless you think the game is designed so that 10% or less of the cards are playable).
