ExMinion OfDarkness
Scapegoat

This card's gone from a "3 in every deck" to a "half of the decks use one and the other half may not" in the past couple of years.

Scapegoat is still a great card on its own; it's one of those natural -1's that's worth playing, and offers several ways to make it...well, NOT a -1. Blocking four attacks is damn good for a quick-play spell, and those tokens can be made to do more than just block attacks...

Scapegoat loses out now for a few reasons:
*Thousand-Eyes Restrict's ban killed the animal that was Goat Control, that was already severely wounded when Metamorphosis was limited to 1.
*The aggressiveness of this format would rather have you have 2 or 3 attackers out as opposed to turtling for a while to set up for greater moves on future turns
*The conflict with triple Cyber Dragon in EVERY deck

It's a good card, but nowhere near what it once was. Officially printed Token monsters don't make up for the fact that we can't use 3 of it, we can't morph one into TER anymore, and we dare not even think about getting back the moon diviner to flip a TER face-down and back up to absorb something else.

Scapegoat

a quickplay spell that gives us an instant plus 4 field advantage. Even with their 0/0 stats Creature Swap, Enemy Controller, LP blockers, and Metamorphosis some time back make this card one of the best spells to date.

Dark Maltos
Scapegoat :

Well guys, I’m back, and what an absence it’s been huh? Anyway, I’m back with a bang to review my 3 favourite cards this week.

Scapegoat is a card I hold in very high regard and has come to be my somewhat trademark thing when I duel. I cannot tell you how many times this card has saved me from a huge assault, be it a Return combo or just bought me some time against a couple of big hitters, either way in my deck it has proven time and time again to be a necessity.

Scapegoat is a very good card, essentially providing 4 monsters for one spell in the form of a chainable little quick play. This has many uses, acting as a great stall card , or a fast way of getting some monsters for effect tributes, with one of the better of these combo’s being with hand of Nephthys. Back in the day, Goat - Control was immense, and everyone was packing 3 , but now Scapegoat’s play has diminished somewhat, although in my eyes it’s still as good as it’s ever been.

There are only 2 real downsides to using Scapegoat, firstly you can’t summon or even special summon during the turn that scapegoat was activated , which is hardly a problem at all really considering you can activate it on the opponents turn too. Still, it can be a pain if for instance you have a searcher on the field.

The second problem really with Scapegoat is that if your monster zones are full up when this face down is targeted by an opposing Heavy Storm or the like, then it can’t be activated, and you lose out.

Still, besides that it’s a very stable and effective card, and even better it’s a Maltos classic.

Otaku

Scapegoat is one of the ever impressive Quick-Play Spells, giving it the speed of Spells with the Spell Speed of a Trap (allowing it to be activated in response to other happenings).  Scapegoat is the best of the token generating cards: while a Level 1/Earth/Beast/0/0 “Monster” that can’t even be used for a Tribute Summon doesn’t sound like much, getting four of them is a fantastic deal even at the cost of summoning anything else that turn.  The reason is that at worst, your opponent will have to expend something to get rid of them all just so they can attack you.  Of course, you can minimize the “cost” to yourself by activating it on your opponent’s turn, when you normally can’t summon anything anyway.  You can also activate it in response to most S/T removal, letting you even up the card cost.  In fact, Scapegoat is one of those cards that, as a whole, tends to be “broken”, but subtly.  After all, a card can’t be broken in a vacuum, so it’s the uses and combos that one needs to look at.  So when Scapegoat was totally unrestricted, cards like Enemy Controller and Creature Swap were deck mainstays: your opponent’s Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning attacking your empty field?  Use Scapegoat, forcing them to “eat” two Sheep Tokens, then Creature Swap them one of the remaining Tokens (that you’ve shifted to Attack Position) in exchange for their Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning.  Now attack and the effect of Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning to attack again, probably nailing them for 6000 damage… or forcing them to destroy Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning with another card.  So… you’ve used one and three-fourths of a Spell verses one of their Monsters and probably a Trap at that point.  You even have a Scapegoat left to burn.  Then there was using Metamorphosis to bring out Thousand-Eyes Restrict, which was so easy with Magician of Faith and Scapegoat aiding it.

Surprising how much you can do with “worthless” Tokens, eh?

Right now, though, we still have a few mass removal cards (and plenty of single removal) which affect the game in two ways:

1)       Scapegoat Sheep Tokens might be blown up quite quickly thanks to things like Torrential Tribute and Heavy Storm (the latter forcing you to use it at a less than opportune time).

2)       Players are scared to commit too much to the field, which means it is unlikely an opponent will clear more than two Sheep Tokens a turn by manually attacking them, necessitating you use some removal cards or give your opponent precious turns to build up something in hand.

So maybe people think I’ll be overrating this card.  It does have some built in drawbacks, and using it carelessly can result in you nearly locking your own field down with the Tokens.

Ryoga
Scapegoat:
In many circles you are not considered a true Yu-Gi-Oh player until you make your own Sheep Tokens.

Scapegoat is and always has been a fantastic card.
Virtually any deck can benefit from it.
1. Quick-play, so its chainable and can draw out s/t destruction.
2. Can block attacks even with Decree or Jinzo on the field.
3. Gives you two to many turns of defensive monsters, slowing the tempo of the game so you can regroup.
4. Gives you little sheep to Swap to your opponent, or blow up for a variety of effects.

Basically, you have to be running a fairly aggressive deck to NOT run these. Ah, the says when we had three...

MikeJ Scapegoat

Basic Summary: One of the BEST Quick-Play Spell cards ever released next to Mystical Space Typhoon which is first in my opinion. Now its restricted for a reason but most ( like me ) dislike this now since nowadays Scapegoat would benefit the game more not being restricted ( you're welcome to e-mail or pm me if you disagree ) since it would hinder the play of Cyber Dragon ( tokens would hinder the effect of Cyber Dragon ) or chainable defence against random teched Cyber-Stein since it would limit their choices too Cyber End Dragon ( 4000 ) then the much more often worse Cyber Twin Dragon ( 5600 ) directly but that isn't much of a pro if they're running teched Limiter Removal =/. Now I remember good old Goat Control ( really fun times ) now that is the main reason why Goats remain restricted so that much feared deck type would never return which is nonsense in my opinion since Goat Control was destroyed the second Thousand Eyes Restrict and Tsukuyomi were restricted the rest was over kill =/ that wasn't needed. Even with it being restricted its seen in almost every deck from Monarchs to Burn its just soo versatile not to run plus its makes other good cards more playable like Enemy Controller & Creature Swap.

Conclusion: This card is just sooo good to run, You would be crazy not too either mained or sidedeck Scapegoat in my opinion.

Traditional Format > 4/5: some good chainable protection

Advance Format > 5/5: Just run it !!!!!! :D

Artwork > 3/5: fluffy cotton meat-shields of defence whats not to love >.>

Scapegoat

Scapegoat is one of the best cards in the game. You get 4 creatures out of 1 card. An awesome effect for a Quick-Play card and you can use it seamlessly with Enemy Controller and Creature Swap.

Last Word: One of the best cards in the game, period. Play it in a Control deck and don’t make the mistake of sticking this card in an Aggro deck with Hydrogeddons.
